Here is a homebrew I have been working on for a little while. It is a twist of the Naya Planeswalker deck, as I think that black may give more power to the deck over green. Just finished hashing out the numbers and getting the cards so not much play results yet.
Haven't been able to test the deck that much but so far it seems that the high end is not of much use so I will work using the low cost part of the deck. Also will change a few numbers on the quantity of some cards as I get multiples with no benefit. Will update the first post when I get better play test results.
Hello, just wanted to start off saying that I haven't played standard for a bit and am not to sure about the format, but I wanted to get back in. Thank you for looking and possibly helping me.
Using Groundskeeper I can keep recycling a basic to hit for 2 damage for every 3 mana I have avaliable. Gitrog allows me to draw with each discarded land possibly allowing me to keep pinging for 2. With Mina and Guul I can keep bouncing a Smoldering Marsh to reduce the cost of Mina's ability to 1 green mana and giving out +2/+0 pumps for each land played. To help with the flow I decided to add Retreat to Hagra for a little life steal.
Other cards I looked at: Tireless Tracker would allow for another path to drawing cards, plus can grow into a beating stick. Tunneling Geopede would replace Guul Draz to lower the cost of the deck and allows for more direct damage without having to attack. Cryptolith Rite would replace the Deathcap if I wanted to use cheaper creatures as they don't have much affect other than sitting there and using them for mana would be better than just the Deathcaps. Crawling Sensation would work with the Vortex's discarding land, but didn't see it to helpful as it triggers only once a turn. Zendikar Resurgent would be to finish off the game on the following turn, but at the cost I didn't see it as that useful, plus if Groundskeeper wasn't already a target, it wouldn't live most of the time after this was played.
I can see this deck having a problem with decks that mill or have heavy control, but should have a good game versus midrange and agro. Well, that is most of what I have worked on, still waiting for cards to come in then I can test the deck myself. So no results as of yet.
After a few play tests, I got the feeling that the higher cost cards didn't seem to really cut it. I also was drawing to many Vortex and Grounds. So I made a few changes to the card counts and lowered the overall cost of the deck.
I added draw to the deck as not having lands in hand can be a problem. Since most of my creatures will be sitting out of combat I added Cryptolith Rite to help with the flow of mana and give me more resource for Vortex. I also added Zendikar Resurgent as an end game card, giving me a way to draw from just about anything I play to get Burn from Within into hand and finish that turn or next. This is the deck I will be testing now.
Wouldn't the ability just dissipate because it couldn't finish the first clause. If it had a , after the place a counter part it should work but because of the period I thought it had to complete all before to move on.
What does everyone think about a sorcery version of Isochron Scepter. Same cost to play, same cost to active. The only major differences would be that it removes only sorceries and the ability can only be activated at sorcery speed.
Do you think that 2 or less mana sorceries are stronger that 2 or less mana instants?
I think the new border is ok, wish they made the board all the way down instead of almost, but my problem is the holofoil stamp. If that has even the slightness of indents, then someone will figure out a way to cheat by using it. I may be wrong and it is perfectly even with the card, but most of the time I have dealt with holofoil stamps it never seems to be that way. We will find out.
Just gonna throw this out there, but this gives me more of a necropotence / yawgmoth's bargain vibe rather than a bob vibe. I do not expect those cards to be reprinted, but maybe something similar and probably ridiculously costed.
Another reason that I was curious of this was because they printed Dragonlair Spider but decided not to make it legendary, maybe power issues for commander, but that card is power, as some of the other spiders have been as well.
I was just bumming around on the gatherer, looking at different legendary creatures when I decided to look for legendary spiders. There are currently no legendary spiders in MTG.
What do you think the chances are for a legendary spider to be printed? The spider creature type has been around for a long time and most types that have been around for so long end up getting a legendary at some point.
I do realize that the spider creature type doesn't have much of a selection, but was mostly curious on what people thought the chances there might be one was.
[I wasn't sure if this belongs in baseless speculation or not since I have no information warranting this post.]
The token would remain a 2/2 until the Chieftain left play. Since all combat damage is done at the same time, the token would be a 2/2 during combat. Then the chieftain would die from damage and the token would turn back into a 1/1.
As for first strike, the chieftain would leave play before the token deals damage turning it back into a 1/1. It would then deals it combat damage.
This may be a stretch but they have done weirder things, but maybe a card that has the "if discard, play instead" clause with an added clause of something like, "If an opponent would make you discard a card, this card must be discarded." So if they thought seize you, they would be forced to choose that card and you get a small creature or spell.
The first two un-sets were Un-Glued and Un-Hinged. I think the next un-set should be called "Un-Played" because of the great number of people that think the un-set is useless except for the lands.
Just checked the Name and Number Crunch, 94 is Deathgaze Cockatrice which would mean that this cards number could be either 92 or 93. Blurry so hard to tell which.
This is basically the simplest idea of the deck and would be modified.
The idea would be to get glimpse played turn 1 followed by a handful of 0 drops to draw into more creatures, mana sources, or combo piece. Once combo is rolling, draw into tendrils and kill.
Just to put it out there for those that don't see the combo - Enduring + 0 drop + altar + glimpse for infinite mana and draw.
So tell me what you think of the idea and if it would even be playable in legacy.

So, I like the new The Gitrog Monster card and saw some potential with Molten Vortex and decided to try a new deck idea.

The idea is to try and abuse the Molten Vortex with Groundskeeper or maximize with The Gitrog Monster, with a backup plan with Mina and Denn, Wildborn and Guul Draz Overseer.
Using Groundskeeper I can keep recycling a basic to hit for 2 damage for every 3 mana I have avaliable. Gitrog allows me to draw with each discarded land possibly allowing me to keep pinging for 2.
