    4. Dragon Appeasement

I concur. I remember one time we had a game that was completed in something like 4-6 hours. Ah... those were the days.

For those unaware (as I was before I searched it out to find the appropriate name) the White Sun/Moon's name from Mirrodin (the place) is Bringer. See http://wiki.mtgsalvation.com/article/Bringer. This card is good again all of the decks mentioned, but particularly good against RB vamps, as for most vamp decks it cuts all the red lands out of the deck, Valakut, as it bones the win condition, and UB as it also uses a high number of non-basics. Kuldotha red is the least damaged by the card as it runs so few non-basics. But it can nerf sac lands, leading to a less efficient deck as they are unable to thin, and Teetering Peak/ Contested Warzone.

Basically said, kill their mana sources and you kill their deck.

    Nonbasic lands are Plains.

I drew from the majority of Liliana's sources. She loves discard, as seen in Duress and Liliana's Specter. She loves killing guys and bringing them back as seen in Mutilate, Disentomb, and Rise from the Grave. She loves search decks, as seen in Demonic Tutor and the Original Lily. With all those in mind I tweaked her references to come up with the following:

    Liliana the Gravestalker
    4BB
    Planeswalker - Liliana
[+1] Name a creature card. Target player reveals his or her hand and discards a card with the chosen name.
[-2] Search target player's library for up to 3 creature cards and put them into that player's graveyard. Then that player shuffles his or her library.
[-3] Put target creature in an opponent's graveyard onto the battlefield under your control.
[-4] Each creature gets -X/-X until end of turn where X is equal to the number of creatures in all graveyards.

I remember when this thread started, and it was the best thing ever. Megiddo made a WiJ thread so great that I stopped playing in all the other contests. This contest really moved.

And then... well... Megiddo has done a great job, truly. A better job than any on person can be expected to do. He has run this thread quickly and with such high quality content that his praise really does need to be sung more often.

Lately the judges have been really slacking off. Judges are leaving contests for days at a time. This thread is about high quality quick judgments and that's been lost.

So Megiddo I ask you to raise the penalty for abandoning judges. For repeat offenders a week or more ban is much more appropriate than simply a single round. Make offenders truly miss the game and set up a real deterrent. This will both knock out those who slow the game down, resulting in quicker round, and act as prod for judges to hasten their judging times.

I know that life can get in the way, this is after all just a forum game we all play. But then such a ban will serve the penalized well as a stay from the game to get their affairs in better order. Also, winners are always free to pass the round off to the runner-up or some other party if they know they don't have the time.

There is truly no reason why a judge should hold the thread hostage for days on end. If a judge does in fact not have the time, that is what Megiddo has made this thread for. That judge should PM Megiddo and explain, and then suffer the penalty for their inability to follow the game's rules.

I hope this slight-rant doesn't fall on deaf ears. I believe I am not the only one in the forums that feels this way, however I could be wrong. Any replies positive or negative for Megiddo or any other players would be greatly appreciated.

    Have fun all!

    Bloom of the Loci
    Legendary Land - Locus
When ~ enters the battlefield put a locus counter on target land. That land becomes a locus in addition to its other types.
At the beginning of your upkeep if you control 10 or more loci you win the game.

    JUDGING COMPLETE!

    Quote from Krey
    Desolated Wastes
    Land (R)
Whenever a land other than Desolated Wastes enters the battlefield, put a Desolation counter on that land. Lands with Desolation counters on them produce 1 instead of their normal mana.
: Add 1 to your mana pool for each land with a desolation counter you control.

Is it interesting? Yes. Is it way too good? Yes. This card shuts out EVERY strategy, unless your mono-artifact you won’t be able to combat this once it hits play. Also this can produce obscene amounts of mana on its own. 3/10

    Quote from Rimeshade
    Mirran Laboratory
    Land
Whenever you tap ~ for mana you may put a Reinforcement counter on target other land. Lands with Reinforcement counters on them are Artifacts in addition to their other types.
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
,T: Add 1 to your mana pool for each artifact land you control.

It’s like a slow-growing Cabal Coffers. I like it. My main concern is that this would mainly be used to LD opponents with shatter effects. 6/10

    Quote from Desmonthesis
    Lotus Field
    Legendary Land (M)
At the beginning of your upkeep, put a lotus counter on Lotus Field.
2,, Remove X lotus counters from Lotus Field: Add X mana of any one color to your mana pool.

This might be under powered. It doesn’t actually create any mana until sitting on the field for 3 turns because of the activation cost. The fact that it is legendary means that a player dropping another one can kill this before it does anything other than cost you a drop. This is basically just a slightly worse Lotus Blossom. Not very original. 4/10

    Caustic Chunnel
    Land [m]
T, Tap an untapped permanent you control: Add to your mana pool 2 or two mana of any of colors the permanent tapped this way is. That permanent can't untap this game.

Wording is slightly off, but I get what it does. Interesting. It can act as a single use accelerator, like a crystal vein, and is very good with static artifacts and enchantments. I like it. 7/10

    Quote from JonFuryZacharias
    Army Barracks
    Land (R)
Tap an untapped creature you control: Tap or untap target land.

I think this is too good. Every creature you control becomes at least a hasted Llanowar Elves/Birds of Paradise. If you have any lands that have a separate tap effect or produces additional mana this can get out of hand very quickly. This feels like an even better Candelabra of Tawnos. 5/10

    Quote from Oculus
    Mirrorpeak
    Land {R}
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
U: Until end of turn, Mirrorpeak becomes a 2/2 blue Illusion creature with shroud. It's still a land.
1W:Until end of turn, lands you control get +1/+1 as long as they are creatures.

Cool card. I like that it only taps for colorless yet is powered by 2 separate colored effects. I really like the white ability on this, very creative. The only thing I don’t like is that the land gains shroud, it makes it nearly impossible to every actually answer the creature/land. I can’t even stone rain it as long as the controller leaves U up. 8/10

    Quote from Sir Aureus
    Temporal Expanse
    Land (M)
Untap : Add one mana of any color to your mana pool. Activate this ability no more than three times each turn.

Cool card. Requires something more to get it going, but once it does it’s spectacular. I’m sure that this could be broken somehow even with the three times clause, but I’m not the one to do it. Good card. 7/10

    Quote from Marco
    Soldier's Armory
    Land (Uncommon)
Soldier's Armory enters the battlefield tapped.
T: Add W to your mana pool.
1W: Until end of turn, Soldier's Armory becomes a 2/2 white Human Soldier creature with "This creature is indestructible this turn." It's still a land.

Cool man land. Not insane by any stretch but probably runnable in many white decks. Nothing super creative as far as activation or abilities but still nice. 6/10

    Zhalfirin Mine
    Land (M)
t: Add 3 to your mana pool and discard your hand.
"Unimaginable wealth without imagination to spend it." —The Lion's Curse

This card is too good probably. It’s a colorless Lion’s Eye Diamond without the diamond’s drawback. You can accelerate out a serious spell too quickly with this. When you cast a spell you first announce the spell, then pay the costs, meaning you can cast 1 spell with this super-accelerator from your hand. Also this land doesn’t sac to be used like LED, so you can re-use it on each new draw and all abilities of permanents you control. 3/10

    Quote from Piar
    Pollen Field
    Land (U)
Pollen Field enters the battlefield tapped.
T: Add W to your mana pool.
W,T, Sacrifice Pollen Field: Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt this turn.
The warriors marched through the field, when a sudden gust blew the field's pollen and the warriors' mettle into the air.

New effect for a land. The comes into play tapped really hurts it, but otherwise it would be “strictly” better than Plains. I wish there was an elegant way for this to come into play untapped as the effect is somewhat limited. Still, cool card. 6/10

    Quote from PsiJet
I'll toss my card into this one:

    Quantum Pillar
    Land (R)
Quantum Pillar comes into play tapped.
Exile a card from your hand, : Add X mana to your mana pool, where X is equal to the casting cost and color of the exiled card.

This card is WAY WAY too good. If gamermk’s card was broken, your card is… a word not yet invented to describe a card that should never have been printed. So Turn 2 I can cast an Emrakul assuming I have any spell that costs 14 or more in my hand to go along with it and another land, or another Emrakul or… you know anything that cost less than the Emrakul I’m exiling. And it’s not even legendary. Every deck would run 4 of these. Always. Negative 11 out of 10. -11/10

    Quote from hoyerhan
    Resonating Fields
    Land (R)
When Resonating Fields enters the battlefield, proliferate.
T, Pay 2 life: Add 1 to your mana pool.
    Madness 2
    Cycling 2

This card does a lot, and yet somehow nothing at the same time! I’m not sure you can Madness a land, but I’ll assume that the rules can be altered to do so. I think that the drawback is too great. I imagine that it could just tap for colorless without any other drawback. Madness + Cycling is always fun. Nothing original here as much as combining a bunch of cool effects. 7/10

    Quote from swishh
    Artificers' Assemblage
    Land (R)
t: Add 1 to your mana pool.
Sacrifice an artifact, t: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
Exile an artifact card from your graveyard, t: Add 2 to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to cast artifact spells or activate abilities of artifacts.

If Glimmervoid and Mishra’s Workshop had a baby this is what would pop out. Nice card. Doesn’t do anything to exciting or original as far as lands go. Still, elegant and well crafted. 7/10

    Quote from Emocakes
    Higher Ground
    Land {R}
Higher Ground enters the battlefield tapped
t: Add to your mana pool.
Attacking creatures your opponents control get -1/-0.

I worry about multiple of these on the field. If you have 1 out it’s an annoy effect, 2 becomes a problem, and 4 becomes extremely hard to deal with. Cool new static effect for a land, but potentially too good. Maybe being a legend would have solved this. 6/10

    Quote from Marr965
    Mindgrounds
    Land
    UU: Draw a card.

Compulsion cost 1U and does less than this. This is too good. It doesn’t tap for mana, so that’s good. But nearly every blue deck ever would run this. Also the fact that you can activate this at end of turn take the decision tree away from this card for blue mages. No sir, I don’t like it. 3/10

We've PMed out this before Megiddo but feel free to smash me again on it. Here is the refined Karn from before.

    Karn the Artificer 5
    Artifact Planeswalker - Karn {M}
    [+0] Proliferate
[+1] Target non-creature artifact becomes an artifact creature with power and toughness equal to its converted mana cost. If Karn is targeted by this ability prevent the first four combat damage that would be dealt to him this turn.
[-3] Gain control of target artifact.
[-5] Search your library for any number of non-land non-planeswalker artifact cards with total converted mana cost of 5 or less and put them onto the battlefield. Shuffle your library afterward.
