from the gatherer page for jace, vyrn's prodegy:

The back face of a double-faced card doesn’t have a mana cost. A double-faced permanent with its back face up has a converted mana cost of 0. Each back face has a color indicator that defines its color.

A hypothetical question to add to this:

If austere command was written in the opposite way, with the creature destruction first then the enchantment destruction, would it be possible to save the creature? I was under the impression that the whole spell would need to resolve before anyone would regain priority, so even if the creature would be destroyed first, you wouldn't regain priority to respond with the angelic renewal until it was destroyed because austere command hasn't finished resolving.

I think the order mattering is more for situations like fiery confluence where if a creature had protection from red from something like sword of war and peace, the damage would go first, before the artifact destruction, so the creature holding the sword wouldn't take damage

I can't wait to use this to blow up a sword, kill the X/1 that was carrying it, and dome my opponent for 2. This card is going to create some good stories.

Just don't forget that this doesn't work on swords that give protection from red.
It would have if damage was dealt after the sword is destroyed, right?

Right, but for this card, the artifact destruction is the last line, and the way the timing happens, it follows the order the text is written when multiple options are chosen. So it would attempt to do the damage to the creature first.

    SMASH ALL THE SMITHEREENS.

I like this card a lot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but choosing the second mode three times results in 3 instances of 2 damage, right? Can each instance be redirected to a planeswalker independently, potentially killing a 2-loyalty walker, burning my opponent for two, and also blowing up an artifact? That would be even sweeter.

From the article talking about mechanics:
"It's important to remember than the effects happen in the order written on the card, no matter which modes you choose. If you choose a mode more than once, you choose their relative order. So say you cast Fiery Confluence choosing the first mode twice and the second mode once. As it resolves, first each creature will be dealt 1 damage, then each creature will be dealt 1 damage again, and finally each opponent will be dealt 2 damage."

So I think it works like you said, that you can choose to redirect one instance of the 2-damage to player to a planeswalker, and deal the other 4-damage to the player

I just found it strange that she is more expensive than jace beleren, architect of thought, ajani vengent, even elspeth, knight errant.

December is a month before KTK and Fate rotate out.

They are not banning a damn thing, it is way too close to a rotation for it to make an impact on Standard that is going to do anything healthy for the game.

    QQ.

Small correction. KTK and Fate won't rotate out until after the first set of the next block comes out. Not Oath. So sometime in April-May.

On topic, I don't think they need to ban jace, or will.

    I stand corrected. Thanks

No. When you target with Lorthos, the Tidemaker, both abilities will go on the stack. The ability for Dismiss into Dream says "When this creature becomes the target of a speel or ability, sacrifice it." Has nothing to do with being the opponents creatures once the ability is on the stack. So they will be sacrificed.

Edit: I was wrong, however you still dont end up with the creatures.
