For you folks who splash red, have you done any testing with Outnumber? I just picked up Tokens not too long ago, so I'm not too familiar with common situations during gameplay, but it seems like a nice source of instant-speed removal. Not something that warrants a splash in itself, but if you're already splashing red then I'd think it would be nice to have a few in the board. Thoughts?

I don't like Outnumber for two, somewhat related, reasons:

First, when the card is better than bold, it seems to be a "win-more" card to me. If I am firing this off to deal with a goyf (which can hit 7/8 in size easily against the bitterblossom version of the deck) or even a Tasigur/rhino I typically have the edge with creatures anyway. And while killing one for R would be great, I woudl rather do other things with my mana. To me it falls in the same vein as Unified Will, a card I ran in an experimental Esper tokens build. While great in theory, really sucked in application.

Second, this card does not lend itself to helping you catch up. Since it only goes towards creatures and not the face and scales depending on my board state, if I'm behind on the board this does not help when drawn.

EDIT: Full disclosure. I splash R and I do not run bolt. I used to, but I prefer the straight BW build maindeck. The splash is only for sideboard cards.

What red cards do you use in the board?

While we're on the subject of card draw, what are some opinions on tezzeret's gambit? I think at this point I would be splashing red for looting anyway but this eliminates the need for a splash while introducing a few alternative downsides of its own. I would consider dropping windbrisk entirely if I could find another means of digging.

Does fulminator mage get the thumbs down then because it's a 3 drop?

Ok so in testing both the red splash and Dragon Tempest were amazing. Hasty tokens improve the early game so much, I raced and beat Tron multiple games when resolving a turn 2 Tempest. Also Terminate alone seems a reason to toss a sacred foundry into the list.

Is a reliable red splash achievable without arid mesas? Currently I'm using 4 heaths, 2 marsh flats, 2 mires. I'd love to grab a foundry and test some red cards.

Well I got hated on for causing all kinds trouble for my opponents with braids, cabal minion .
I ended up saccing it once the complaints got legit. Gona take it out for now. zombie infestation was an all star once again. Still need more win cons but the deck is extremely efficient and I'm just loving it.

Hey I mean that is just as likely a scenario but, I'm playing against the same 4 decks every week because we're just a group of friends who play casual edh so I can get away with it. Your mileage may vary.

Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim is very impressive. i Think Teysa might be jealous lol but she will definitely be tested. im already contemplating putting her in for Utter End or another piece of removal since as i stated in the primer, removal on creatures is usually better than on sorceries/instants

This is what I'm intrigued about. The last few games I've played (although not wins) I used necrotic sliver and mangara of corondor to great effect and am usually able to find a way of repeating it as necessary via one of our many recursion tools. Having another cheap body with that kind of utility is awesome and I generally don't have a problem getting to 50+ life in a given game.

She'll be going in my 99 for sure so I can figure out how well I can make use of her. Definitely cool as a commander or a go-to in a more life gain based deck but she meets all my criteria for testing in a teysa shell.

Far be it from me to question the wisdom of the moderators, but opening this thread before we actually know how these cards work may have been a mistake.

That time when 3 cards were spoiled and wizards ruined the whole game and I'm actually gona quite mtg for real this time and sell my whole collection <inappropriate content removed>

I 2nd zombie infestation . The deck can have a ton of card draw at times. Last night I had skullclamp out, and everyone was already drawing two cards per turn from one of the blue commanders at the table. I turned all my excess into zombie tokens and just did my thing as usual.

I may consider putting a few of the infinite combos back in the deck because the straight-up grind-style play can lead to long stretches of solitaire and then people complain or get bored. I started getting ganged up on after my first table killing win and at one point was down to 4 life and tapped out. I started sacrificing dudes to my altar and ended up creating enough card draw and mana to dig through a bunch of cards off the top of my library. I found my Sun Titan but laughed when I remembered that I took out Angelic Renewal last week. It would have been cool to go infinite on Blasting Station when the rest of the table had already written me off as dead.

Yeah, I don't know about Karlov but I love the artwork though.

I didn't know about tenacious dead until sifting through this primer recently, I will pick one up. But, I have to say I like the fact that with bloodsoaked champion I don't necessarily need the mana to recur him right away. I'm also not opposed to running all four of the cheap sac/recur dudes. Tenacious will take bloodghast's place I'm thinking.

    First off,
to the OPer, awesome job on this primer. Can't say enough thanks for how great a resource this is.

Has anyone considered using bloodsoaked champion as recurable sacrifice fodder? He's doing serious work for me in standard Aristocrats right now (not to mention cutthroat, abomination, new liliana, haruspex which are all in my 99 as well)
Anyways, I just switched my Ghost Council of Orzhova deck over to this and can't wait to start playing it.

What does everyone think of Graveblade Marauder as an alternative to Fleshbag/abomination? He fits the curve and if our g-yard is getting filled with creatures and he gets through for player damage it could be significant. I like the scenario of having him swinging with natuko husk and having sac-fodder at the ready. It provides a lot of options once the opponent commits blockers.
    Too cute? Sideboard option perhaps?
