Even playing 2 is more than 0 like before where we had 9 fetchlands. I play 3 pushes and absolutely play 9 fetchlands.
fair. My list is net-decked from the team unified Modern deck.
Really liked his list so I decided to go with it. The biggest difference is side boarding decisions.
Do you think Dredge has died in popularity enough to make having no gy hate ok?
I think FlyingDelver is spot on with that mana base, It's exactly what I'm playing with except I'm messing around with a Treetop Village over a Raging Ravine and a 3/1 Split of Cliffs to Marsh as I'm on the Fatal Push plan. I actually think Dredge has been picking up in popularity recently because of it's matchup with DS decks, but the biggest GY based strategies to watch for in the near future will be Abzan Company and Living End. Company has the new combo and I've seen new lists that can win multiple ways instead of getting completely hosed. Living End just got a ton of new toys and seems to be picking up online and in paper. I think it's one of the most underrated decks in Modern right now but we'll see what happens in the month before Vegas. I would never have less than two GY hate cards in my SB at any time. I approach my weekly Modern events with the mentality that I have a 75 that could compete in a larger event. For example, if my local event had 15 people with six Burn players, I wouldn't shove 8 life gain cards into my sideboard because that wouldn't help me improve my competitive play, it would just help me win my weekly event, and that's not really the goal I'm going for. On top of the two decks I mentioned, both Grixis and Jund Death's Shadow utilize the GY and Storm is now Tier 1, so cut GY at your own risk!
It's get's some value on turn you play it if opponent has no removal or is tapped out, and ends the game quickly if unanswered on empty board. Comparable to Huntmaster but can get more tokens and doesn't get trapped when spells are still being played.
I think Burn could use this in the sideboard but I can't imagine them bringing it in against us because we have so much removal. I also don't think we need it in the matchups where it's good. We have the removal to control Affinity and then takeover, same with Abzan Company. Against Lantern I'd much rather drop a Goyf and go to town. If it gets to the point that Mentor would be good, we probably aren't drawing it anyways.
I actually play 3 Surgical Extraction in my SB with 3 Fulminator Mage.
Surgical Extraction is great against DS which just play DS and Tarmogoyf as threats, kill them is not enough because it's possible to bring them back thanks LtLH and Kolaghan's co.
An other good card against DS is scavenging ooze.
Moreover, taking the actual meta given by Modern Nexus, the couple Fulminator Mage + Surgical Extraction is extremely powerful against new Tiers 1 decks (Valakut, Eldrazi Tron, Gx Tron).
For the point about Lightning Bolt vs Fatal Push, if you would replace it, you should probably play The Rock with a better mana-base and Phyrexian Obliterator.
I'm glad to be back on this forum, Flyingdelver, a huge respect for your work.
In May I'll go to GP Copenhague with traditional Jund so April will be a intense month of trainings against this new format.
Gus
Hey Gus, I've also been playing 3 Surgicals in the SB. Would you mind sharing your current SB list?
Have any of you considered playing Tireless Tracker instead of 4-CMC stuff or something else?
I've been testing a 1-of Tireless Tracker over a Huntmaster in the main and when it's good, it's really good. The last game I played it got up to 8/7 and I drew five extra cards. I've been a fan of Huntmaster for awhile but what's kind of turning me off about it is that being a 4/4 just isn't impressive when playing against Tasigur, Eldrazi, Death's Shadow, and Goyf. Dropping it on turn four and playing a fetch is just sweet, sweet value.
Do you still play Kalitas somewhere in your 75? If so, where?
I have one in the SB but I'm considering dropping Huntmaster and going either 1x Kalitas 1x Tireless Tracker main with 1x Kalitas SB, or 2x Kalitas main and Tracker in the SB. I prefer Kalitas over Huntmaster personally but I was trying out the Huntmasters main for awhile and now I'm moving back to Kalitas.

Has anyone tried out Stromkirk Occultist? I know, I know...a 3 CMC creature that dies to bolt, but so far in my limited testing, it has been surprisingly good. With all of our discard, removal and other must-kill threats, it has been like Dark Confidant #5 and #6 for me. Even if it trades with a creature, the trample damage will often still make the transaction a 2-for-1. A couple of my opponents kept their larger creatures from attacking, because they didn't want to let it attack unblocked for me to gain a card. It also has the bonus of working well with LOTV because of its Madness ability. Being a vampire can be relevant if you are using Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet as well.
I really suggest testing it out. It has been better than expected for me.
It does seem decent but Tireless Tracker seems much better in that kind of a slot and people have been including it occasionally in the main or the sideboard for grindy matchups. If you drop it turn 4 and it resolves, your opponent still doesn't have priority, play a fetch, trigger goes on the stack, hold priority and fetch for your second trigger, you're going to get two clues even if they try to remove it, so it makes it much easier to get any value. Plus it can become very big very quick, get out of bolt range, and become a game ending threat while continuing to get you card advantage without having to connect with combat damage.
I just read on Reddit, from a Jund pilot at the Dallas Open, that a ton of the DS players are traditional Jund players that are trying the deck. Consider this when bringing up recent tournament results and Jund's current viability.
Which result you are post? According the GP Dallas, Vancouver & Brisbane, there's not even a Jund on top 8, the highest Jund in these tournaments by Tad Macaraeg 9TH on GP DFW, and GP DFW play without Fatal Push.
@Spsiegel1987 I don't think you are getting the simple message that @whocansay is trying to get across.
It doesn't matter how much you love Jund, or how validated your opinions are of why it's better to play Junk or Death's Shadow in the current meta, people who continue to read and contribute to this forum are here because they want to play Jund.
People don't come to the Jund forum to read your opinion of why we shouldn't be playing Jund.
Saying things like "there is ZERO reason to play Jund" is absolutely ridiculous.
At this point you are just coming across as upset that people are still playing this deck. If you feel like your points need to be validated that bad, go over to the Junk forum and convince everyone to keep playing Junk, the audience in this forum is not interested. You also blame the people in this forum for not fostering enough conversation, but you continue to come back, just trying to convince people to switch? If there is zero reason to play Jund right now then. . .we'll see you later, when the meta changes?
I've been playing with Lost Legacy for awhile and it's gas. Clearly potentially slower than Surgical, but it's unconditional because it doesn't require it to be in the yard and you don't have to play around things like K-Command. It's just a good card overall against the combo decks, especially on the play.
