A New and Exciting Beginning

The End of an Era

Playing Golgari splashing red for Augur Spree. My opponent is at 21 and I am at 4. He's been beating me down all game and has now just played a Grove of the Guardian. He has plenty of creatures to tap to create the token. An Azorius Justicar, 2 1/1 flying tokens, Gatecreeper Vine, and a Seller of Songbirds.

I have a Trestle Troll, a Giant Spider...er...Towering Indrik, a Korozda Guildmage, and a Wild Beastmaster. And a load of mana. 6 swamps, a mountain, a forest, a promenade, a Golgari guildgate, and a Rogue's Passage. In my hand is a Launch Party, and an Augur Spree. The only relevant thing in my graveyard is a Dreg Mangler that I can scavenge. End of his turn, I have all my mana available, but I have to be able to kill him on my next turn.

So here's what I did. Eot, used the Guildgate's pump ability on Trestle Troll twice, making it a 3/6. Then used the sac ability to make 6 1/1 saps.

On my turn, I scavenged the Mangler onto the Beastmaster, making it a 4/4, then used the Guildgate's pump to make it a 5/5, and then, with my final 3 mana, used the Augur Spree to make it a 9/1. Then attacked with everything for 91. Thank god he didn't have a Druid's Deliverance.

Probably too powerful as printed. Maybe if it said "Each opponent may add one mana to his or her mana pool at the beginning of their next main phase."

    BBBB
    Jumping Infection
    Enchantment - Aura

    Enchanted creature gets -2/-2

Sacrifice Jumping Infection: Put a card from your hand on top of your library

When Jumping Infection goes to your graveyard from play, return it to your hand.

Pretty sure that your 4-0 has more to do with your Mist Raven, 2 Seraphs, 2 Fettergeists, and 2 Shieldmates than your Vanguards and Voices.

I didn't consider the fact that all our PMs might be different, but I doubt it. Yeah, that's it. I'm guessing you aren't vanilla town, either.

    Ok.

    Vote TeChNoWC

I am almost certain that he is mafia.

Plus if you think I fabricated, consider the fact that I posted it in the heat of very quick conversation. Check the times.

That seems even more suspicious...as if you wanted the heat off of you...I mean, you gave up that role pm pretty quickly...without anyone even asking you. Not to mention that you're trying to out people that you think aren't vanilla town.

I don't know why anyone thinks he's confirmed. So he showed his role PM? It's possible he faked it, the outline for it is given in the first couple of posts, so it'd be easy for him to just change a few things and make it look town.

Is what you posted exactly what's written in your Role PM TeCch?

It looks to me like Ahlyis was just fishing for reactions. I don't like how early he did it, but, I suppose with the way he did it, it would pretty much have to be his first post anyways, but still...

I'd put him on town...seems too risky to start out trying to pull that off as scum; they'd rather not call too much attention upon themselves initially; they're more likely to ones to sit back. I don't necessarily agree with Ahlyis that PK is scum, though. I don't know enough about either of them to concur with his analysis, and his initial reaction seems to be saying 'What a newb', which doesn't seem like it says anything about his alignment.

Awww, and here I was hoping to get back into the swing of things with a Random Voting Stage™ vote. Now it looks like I'm gonna have to start deducing right off the bat.

Because it isn't a card that can be cast during the resolution of another spell.

    Also, evidence:

Awww...too bad. That means Desperate Ravings won't help if you have an empty hand.

Believe me, lucky topdecks with these cards have no need of being immune to counterspells too. I'm looking forward to seeing some of these miracles remanded Grin

You, sir, are a villain to those who love the thrill of 'that one game' where they get 'that one card' they need in order to win. Then again, every hero needs a good villain, I suppose. Wink

Honestly, I think it would actually be pretty cool if it resolves instantly without being able to be responded to...cause it would suck to draw your 'miracle' that could potentially save you from a game you would have otherwise lost...only to have it countered.
It would mean, that those who sit back with a fistful of counters, or protection spells, or creature kill spells (If there's say a spell that says 'target creature gains hexproof and is unblockable') will have to be a little bit more pro-active in case their opponent draws that 'miracle' they need.

It is put on the stack, just as like suspend spells are.

Yeah, but, generally speaking, Suspend cards don't get played in the middle of spells, do they? I can see how it's very similar to most other abilities like this except...I believe most of those abilities happen at a very specific time and aren't likely to happen in the middle of a spell that's resolving?

It'll be a lot more subtle, but yeah it doesn't solve the issue entirely. It'll appear to the opponent that you are staring at your draw step, and if they're paying attention, they'll probably be able to see that the card hasn't been drawn yet. It'd be a giveaway, since it's an automatic step at the beginning of the draw step.

Edit: in response to your next question, you cast it just like any other spell. It uses the stack, you pay any additional costs, players get priority, etc.

So...when you're playing a spell...say, Desperate Ravings, and you draw the first card, and it's a miracle card...and you reveal it, pay the cost...then you draw the other card, discard 2, and then the spell goes on the stack?

That's probably because the revealing bit isn't a triggered ability (we know this for sure -- the mechanic doesn't work otherwise). It's a replacement effect.

The way you have it, the revealing wouldn't happen until the triggered ability resolves.

Ah, that's true. But then the question still remains...does the spell resolve instantly, or does your opponent have a chance to respond it?
