Sweet. That's a start. Playing around with that, I now notice that it's sorting cards in an order I didn't expect. Not sure what the criteria is.Quote from molster »the [deck] widget already works with the builder just do[deck]ID OF DECK[//deck]

Dec 15, 2017lyonhaert posted a message on MTGSalvation's Deckbuilder is Here!Well, since this is fresh and the comments are being read, I figured I'd post some initial thoughts here instead of the bugs forum.Posted in: Articles
- Making the Paste Deck option more up-front might save a lot of time for users. It was literally the last thing I saw because it's a small tab on the far right. Perhaps an initial modal question posed when building a new deck that asks the user to choose between building it manually vs pasting a list.
- Integration with deck threads would be awesome, because right now they'd have to be maintained separately. It feels like two implementations of the same feature (decklist and discussion), but I don't see people totally converting their decklist threads over to just this. Some possibilities there (and I tried to think of approaching from either direction):
- Being able to put the same widget in a post as what shows on the main page.
- A widget that serves as a replacement for the [deck] tag that shows the list of cards and such without having to click to a different screen. Possibly multiple widgets (or one with settings) for showing the different sections of the deckbuilder's information such as the descriptions. Maintaining a Primer in two places would be even more of a pain than they already are.
- Integration with the existing [deck] tag such as a new button in the upper right that allows a thread owner to convert the decklist in their OP to: A. create a new deck here if they haven't done so already and associates it with the thread; B. updates the thread-owner's associated deck if one already exists for that thread. Could also be associated to just a combination of userId+threadId per deck. Unfortunately, some selective parsing would be necessary for areas like the Commander decklist forums due to the strong convention of putting the cmc before the card name rather than the actual quantity.

So then I think to myself that those are a lot of restrictions and maybe I just shouldn't build it at all if I think I would need to nerf it that much.
While it might be possible, if I were to try to make a $50 budget deck to go up against an improved Ezuri, Claw of Progress deck, colorless is probably not where I would start. However, if you succeed, we want to see the list!
Good and evil are constructs irrelevant to black. Strength and weakness, on the other hand, is a dichotomy black cares about.
Honesty is not always pragmatic or the best play. It disregards causality for blind idealism. Diplomacy is a stretch, but is more flexible.
Heroes tend to have this will-sacrifice-themselves-for-someone-else aspect. That's mostly green and white's domain, but apparently blue and red will dip into it. But it's pretty out of character for mono-black.
What I think is closer to what mono-black is capable of is "strong diplomatic mono-black protagonist". Muahahahahaha.
(Okay, I'm done.)
three of these things are kindof the same..."
Yes, I believe that is too much to ask, as it would be out-of-character for someone mono-black.
I'd also like to note that your spell-copying effects like Reiterate won't trigger Zada multiple times. Just in case.
If you want your set decklists, though, you could analyze your lists to see what subsets of the cards are unique to each deck and set those aside in their own divider for that deck. Same with any large group of cards shared by two decks.
I think the mid-range decks also storm, but try to have a resilient presence a little farther into the game rather than trying to min-max how early they can go off. It can be a bit of a stretch of the term mid-range perhaps. I could be wrong, so I'll defer to someone who pilots such a build.
As far as the terminology, it's hard to get away from combo entirely because of Zada herself. Even pointing a cantrip at her is a ridiculous amount of synergy that it's pretty much a combo. Pretty much anything we point at her is a combo. And normally we don't have any infinite combos in here. There's two I know that I've considered, but I'd rather focus on other aspects.
Edit:
I have no problem mentioning non-Arcane stuff, because it basically comes down to running other choices from the card options for cantrips, tokens, rituals, etc.
That slim of a budget sounds pretty corner-case, though. I'd rather present card options and identify some as budget and let readers decide. For recasting spells, if you're not running Mizzix's Mastery and Past in Flames, you're stuck with Recoup, and Shreds of Sanity. Possibility Storm sortof of gets you some multi-casting.
Actually, both of those come down to the card options section.
On the other hand, if you have advice for acquiring cards on the cheap that are otherwise not cheap, that might fit somewhere. For example, Krenko is about 5 dollars. How would you acquire that for 50 cents or less?
So I toned things down. I took out infinite combos in all but my 1 or 2 strongest decks. I also sometimes choose actions that are good and/or fun rather than what is best. I'd rather grind it out with an opponent and milk the struggle so that if they gain the upper hand they really did do it themselves. Sometimes a friend can feel like they never had a chance if you crush the game in 1 turn, even if it's turn 10.
I also helped my friends strengthen their decks with advice and cards to try to even power levels out. Sometimes repeated losses just come down to how they play (skill level, overlooking stuff, misplays, etc.). Most of the people I play with are receptive to improving their tactics and awareness, so I do that as well. I want strong opponents so they challenge my own skill.
