Sweet. That's a start. Playing around with that, I now notice that it's sorting cards in an order I didn't expect. Not sure what the criteria is.Quote from molster »the [deck] widget already works with the builder just do[deck]ID OF DECK[//deck]

Dec 15, 2017lyonhaert posted a message on MTGSalvation's Deckbuilder is Here!Well, since this is fresh and the comments are being read, I figured I'd post some initial thoughts here instead of the bugs forum.Posted in: Articles
- Making the Paste Deck option more up-front might save a lot of time for users. It was literally the last thing I saw because it's a small tab on the far right. Perhaps an initial modal question posed when building a new deck that asks the user to choose between building it manually vs pasting a list.
- Integration with deck threads would be awesome, because right now they'd have to be maintained separately. It feels like two implementations of the same feature (decklist and discussion), but I don't see people totally converting their decklist threads over to just this. Some possibilities there (and I tried to think of approaching from either direction):
- Being able to put the same widget in a post as what shows on the main page.
- A widget that serves as a replacement for the [deck] tag that shows the list of cards and such without having to click to a different screen. Possibly multiple widgets (or one with settings) for showing the different sections of the deckbuilder's information such as the descriptions. Maintaining a Primer in two places would be even more of a pain than they already are.
- Integration with the existing [deck] tag such as a new button in the upper right that allows a thread owner to convert the decklist in their OP to: A. create a new deck here if they haven't done so already and associates it with the thread; B. updates the thread-owner's associated deck if one already exists for that thread. Could also be associated to just a combination of userId+threadId per deck. Unfortunately, some selective parsing would be necessary for areas like the Commander decklist forums due to the strong convention of putting the cmc before the card name rather than the actual quantity.

As far as card draw to make sure you don't run out of gas, I could list the staples but I'll wait to see what you've already included in your list.
Linking decklists is fine, so go ahead and do that so we can base suggestions on that. Or you can put the list in a comment in this thread using the [deck] tags, like the following (you can use the Quote link in the bottom-right of my comment to see how it's used):
1 Ghoulcaller Gisa
1 Jet Medallion
1 Cabal Coffers
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
36 Swamp
Do you want to rely on cantrip creatures (Oculus, Palace Familiar, etc.), supplemental card draw, and casting things? Do you want any sort of engine that recurs creatures so they can die again?
I suggest also searching for "leaves the battlefield" triggers rather than just "dies" triggers. Here are some stuff I found that seems related, though I'm not entirely sure what direction you're really trying to go in.
Firstly, I'd like to ask if there's anything specific that breaks your glass cannon in your meta? Or does it end up being a variety of stuff? Are you okay with it being a glass cannon so that when your opponents see how easily it can fold it's not as much of a threat in their minds when you reveal her as your commander?
Yeah, Seasoned Pyromancer is definitely good, but the price is way to much for a card that's only good in my janky glass cannon deck, so I may never get it since it's in Modern rather than rotating out of Standard ever.
As for Fire Diamond and Coldsteel Heart, I've sometimes run even cheaper-to-cast ones like Mox Amber and Chrome Mox but generally prefer mana from creatures or rituals. In your Maybeboard, Ancient Tomb ain't a bad choice, and Mana Crypt/Sol Ring/Mana Vault are alright if you don't end up with too many of those since we end up needing a lot of red mana. You might consider Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx. Priest of Urabrask is also a card I like since he's basically free or converts 2 into RR.
There are also some creatures somewhat like Iron Myr that one might consider, too, like Hedron Crawler, Plague Myr, and Walking Atlas. Wily Goblin isn't quite as good, but we just need a little bit of mana from our creatures while using Twinflame/Heat Shimmer to help us get through our attempt to reach critical mass, and I like how the Treasure can wait to be used (unlike, say, Akki Rockspeaker). As backup for Skirk Prospector, your playgroup might allow Mons's Goblin Waiters, or you might try Phyrexian Altar (which would work with Pashalik Mons). Since my playground allows Waiters, I should definitely find space for Mons, hahahaha.
Edit: Also, Precursor Golem probably makes the best backup Zada, especially if you can cast a cloning spell like Twinflame/Heat Shimmer on it more than once.
Cavalier of Flame only works with it at all in Cav's death trigger since its ETB discard wheel effect is mutually exclusive to the "Cycling R" that Tectonic Reformation give your lands, but many other things work with Cav's death trigger, too. Even drawing too many and having to discard down to hand size.
But I like how you're thinking about the deck! There was a time I was running Titan's Strength and was going to run a handful of the red cycling lands like Forgotten Cave so that, while comboing off, I could use TS to scry through the rest of the deck if creatures outnumbered my library and selectively draw specific cards between copies of TS.
Flying rather makes up for lack of trample, I think. If there's something that flying can't get past then there's probably something in the deck that can move it out of the way. Or at the very least just hammer away at the blockers.
Edit: Because I'd rather have a second Prismatic Vista.
P.S. I don't love it when the MTGS's card preview picks a full-art version (e.g., Mana Tithe at the moment) so you can't read it. lol
Cavalier of Night — Simply because of it bringing back a CMC <= 3 creature when it dies, it could have some synergy in more casual Chainer decks.
Dread Presence — Honorable mention for being a Nightmare, but probably doesn't actually do enough from swampfall.
Epicure of Blood — Likely functional along with the lifegainers and Blood Artist-type critters. Probably only room for it in more casual decks, as tuned decks and higher are often tight for space, and this thing doesn't do anything on its own. (Also probably has a high potential of being win-more.)
Scheming Symmetry — This one I like and want to test. I wonder how well it will do as a politicking tool, especially when I can mill or steal their chosen card.
Vilis, Broker of Blood — Where Razaketh is great for tutoring (so much so that I don't run him in my build because he's just Too Much™), this guy feels like the card-draw counterpart to Razaketh. I really like the high-risk and high-reward this demon offers. Going to have to test him. The idea of drawing 3 cards every time I use Chainer makes me salivate. And not just that but he comes with an ability to trigger that. B and 2 life for 2 cards, and just target his giant 8/8 body with the -1/-1? All the yes.
Prismite — Technically another way of getting B from C (thinking of Ashnod's Altar here), but Bog Initiate and Gemstone Array are probably better at that.
Salvager of Ruin — This one is interesting. Restrictive on timing/context, but being able to return any type of permanent could be nice.
Lotus Field — I don't like that it enters tapped, but it doesn't require the sacrificial lands be untapped and it has hexproof, which are decent upsides over stuff like Lotus Vale. I'll probably be adding Prismatic Vista instead, but this one's not terrible.
If you think there's anything else that should have caught me eye or you're curious what I have to say about it, let me know and I'll edit it in.
Here's how I imagine it working a bit more step-by-step with this splices-copy-but-text-changes-don't business. This may not be 100% accurate, but it's what I'm using to make sense of this still-working-but-differently-now:
1. Pretty sure Eli Shiffrin's (Magic Rules Manager) clarifications override anybody's opinions in that thread:
The way I interpret this is that the resultant text-change is itself not directly copied, but the choice to splice and what was spliced are copied which has the result of performing the text-change on each copy separately. So we're still good, but keep those tweets on hand if you run the Splice package.
