Jun 9, 2019lyonhaert posted a message on Sidisi, Brood Tyrant: Zombie horde and shenanigans! (3 versions!)If there's enough interest/discussion/theorycrafting around it that transient chat discussion is worthwile, then it might be worth it. darrenhabib has a discord server for Prime Speaker Vannifar, and Sidisi is popular enough in many different builds it might be worth a server dedicated to the commander. I'm on a few for Elite: Dangerous and even admin one, and the reason I mention framing it around the commander rather than just your particular builds (though if it's your server they can certainly be put on a pedestal) is that it helps if the "topic" of the server isn't too narrow. For example, I probably wouldn't create a server dedicated to Chainer because dedicating it to MBC seems more appropriate.Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
And it's not all transient information. You can make read-only channels for FAQ, you can pin messages so concise bits of information are easy to access in the channel where that message exists. Makes a poor wiki, though. Might be worth checking out the Vannifar server to see how it's structured.
Jun 4, 2019They do plan on keeping things as similar as possible so that it's hopefully just copy-paste. As for the thread here, if it stays available as read-only it can most likely be linked to.Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists

Yeah, I mixed Defile up a bit with Dead of Winter probably. I could definitely be underestimating it, but I also don't run Tragic Slip. And thank all that is Unholy that I don't have Teeg or Anafenza in my meta!Quote from GloriousGoose »Defile looks at all Swamps you control, not just Snow-Covered Swamps. I think you're underrating the card compared to Tragic Slip, though. Slip is obviously much better in your deck than in mine, but I would think there are times where Morbid can't be triggered so the Slip is insufficient. Defile has a longer ramp up but should be able to keep reasonable pace with the toughness of problematic creatures like Gaddock Teeg or Anafenza the Foremost.
May 31, 2019Regarding the closing of MTGSPosted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
I'll be going along to the new home the mods are building since so many others are. I may even be able to put more work into the OP before read-only mode hits. If I'm able to begin the new thread over there before time is up here, I'll edit the OP to add a link and a statement.
Alright, here's my take on Modern Horizons:
Azra Smokeshaper — ETB to make a creature indestructible is functional in Chainer, but not nearly as useful as removal or other ETB stuff.
Cordial Vampire — A vampire theme is a definite possible direction for Chainer, and this one could be good in that.
Defile — Even with a bunch of snow swamps, this is not better in this deck than Tragic Slip would be. Edit: DOH! RTFC, lyon.
Feaster of Fools — We don't sac en-masse like that, really. Seems more of a Marchesa kind of card.
Force of Despair — This one is interesting, but still more situational than other wipes available to us. Could be nice versus the kind of deck that would make infinite tokens with haste and swing the same turn.
Plague Engineer — This one is cool. Goblin/Elf/etc. Potentially good against tribal token decks... but only against tribal tokens decks assuming they're not buffing the tokens. Massacre Wurm is still better.
Warteye Witch — I took out Viscera Seer (not a bad sac outlet for Chainer in general) because I was rarely actually sacking creatures to it. If there was a better outlet (like Phyrexian Altar) I'd be using that one instead. But I do love my trigger engines that do stuff when I sack my critters. This would be right at home with my card draw triggers like Grim Haruspex and Smothering Abomination.
Yawgmoth, Thran Physician — Cool card, but I just don't think it's for this. At least not for this take on Chainer. Not only do you have to have your own creature to sac (which is where Vampiric Rites falls down sometimes), but you have to have another to target (though Yawgmoth is legal) for the -1/-1 counter or you won't be able to draw that card. This could be fine, but it makes me wary of it.
Mox Tantalite — I'd rather have the sooner benefit of Fellwar Stone or Charcoal Diamond, but if this doesn't come too late in the game three turns usually isn't terrible. For any color to hypothetically help with Praetor's Grasp, I'd still prefer Fellwar or even
Darksteel Ingot. But I will get one.
Prismatic Vista — This is actually a really good substitute for the fetches I run, and I may even replace one to free it up for another deck.
I might test Yawgmoth. Force of Despair would be worth testing if I had more sudden-swarm decks to contend with in my meta. I have a suspicion that Warteye Witch is a winner, though.
May 14, 2019lyonhaert posted a message on Help refining Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed Reanimator ControlWhat direction are you looking to go in with the deck? Staying casual and help identifying cards that don't fit that? Making it more focused?Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
May 13, 2019Posted in: Multiplayer Commander DecklistsI made a ton of changes for testing recently. For example, I wanted to try Krosan Restorer instead of Somberwald Sage since threshold is pretty easy, and so I also added the other two Ravnica Karoo lands. Some of the other changes involve some more proactive ramp since four creatures are leaving that only put lands into my hand instead of actually ramping — I'm keeping the landcyclers since they can get the dual lands with basic subtypes like Breeding Pool.
If you have thoughts about any of these swaps, I'd like to read them.
Did quite well in a game last night even though I eventually lost. The Inalla deck was helping me mill myself and eventually played a kingmaker role, helping the Firesong and Sunspeaker deck. At one point I'd managed to make 25 spiders that were 28/29 thanks to a Nighthowler on Master Biomancer, but a Chain Reaction from F&S took care of those and set them up with > 1000 life. I wasn't about to give up, though. I might have given them a race for the win, making spiders yet again for life drain with Ishkanah as well as Kessig Cagebreakers making Essence of the Wild tokens on the attack every turn. Sadly, I misplayed a turn in which I should have retrieved DEN with Eternal Witness and flickered EW to return several key cards to set myself up way more rapidly than the line of play I actually performed. If I'd done so to recover Runic Repetition to retrieve both Spider Spawning and Memory's Journey I would have been able to avoid getting decked on the last 4 cards of my library when Inalla played Mindcrank and F&S did Earthquake for X=5.
I managed to cast Splendid Reclamation twice in that game, which raises some thoughts about another card. Without an easy way to sacrifice creatures (I almost slotted in Ashnod's Altar, but nah) I may find World Shaper's use as a second SR inconsistent, but willing to continue testing. The more attacks I get in without him getting killed the better, in general, since he mills. Possibly a good body for Nighthowler and/or Sword of the Animist if I ever slot that in.
May 12, 2019I think last night's game, in which I missed a few early land drops, never ramped, but still assembled a combo (CDM+AO+DG+PA) eventually after losing more than half my life to other players — and on the back of 6 total lands of which only 3 were Swamps — is a good indication that I don't really need much land ramp. It's a nice-to-have, but enough engine pieces to produce mana is all I really need to get going. This makes me consider adding 2-3 mana rocks like Charcoal Diamond and Fellwar Stone in place of Sword of the Animist. Walking Atlas is still worth testing, I think. Backing off the reliance on land ramp probably undermines the effectiveness of Mutilate, so that could become Damnation easily. On the other hand, being restricted to land-only ramp has been an interesting constraint. I'll keep mulling it over.Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
I also found myself wanting a cheap form of reanimation for early in the game (especially when I was stuck on 1B for 3 turns), so I'll also consider Animate Dead or Reanimate and where I might fit that in — perhaps in the place of Vampiric Rites. Rites loses a few points now because it was not helpful when I had nothing to sacrifice (while Erebos was), and when I did have things to sacrifice I was sacrificing them to other things while Grim Haruspex was drawing me cards. I think Krav is probably better in its effect since it's also another way I could mill somebody out with a bunch of tokens. He's in Marchesa at the moment, though, and would have to displace something other than Rites in this deck.
Agent of Erebos was absolutely the right choice for graveyard exile. One opponent (piloting Muldrotha) was planning on killing their World Shaper to get at least a dozen landfall triggers (mainly Ob Nixilis, the Fallen and Tatyova, Benthic Druid) and because it wasn't Tormod's Crypt or Nihil Spellbomb I got to control that graveyard again later.
Aetherworks Marvel drawn in this game, but not used because the combo plus Grim Haruspex could have drawn and cast my entire deck instead. That's the kind of situation where Vedalken Orrery could have lent synergy for being able to do it EOT instead of on my main phase. I think Marvel loses a couple points for now. It needs some different situations to test it still.
Edit: Also wanted to add that, in regard to the remark about Walking Atlas, I had an issue with Krosan Restorer in my Spider Spawning deck where I never got to tap it once. So I'm also hesitant to use tap-based abilities on creatures due to the need for haste or reanimating them EOT with Chainer so they can immediately be able to use it.

Tutor-to-graveyard in mono-black? Just Iname, Death Aspect, and this isn't a home for it.
Definitely not crazy. I don't run Ashnod's in mine, there are several sac outlets I'd add ahead of it if I need more.
Animate Dead is usually a good one. Cheap cost and works on any graveyard. Necromancy is also an option with it's possibility of temporary instant-speed tradeoff. I don't think I would use Exhume unless I built around it a bit.Reanimate? something like Animate Dead or Victimize/Exhume? I think that might make the deck less reliant on the commander and allow me to play a stronger game if I don't have enough mana available.
Do you use Reanimate often?
May 9, 2019LOL — The good ol' "arms race". Choosing Krenko for their second deck does seem kinda Spikey. The key is: will winning quickly in always-the-same-way become boring for them at some point?Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
May 9, 2019lyonhaert posted a message on The Portal Storm: Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed Combo-ControlWishboards were already not officially supported. All they did was reword the rule that says they're not a thing to make it clearer. And they also added Rule 0 that says "these are the official rules, but house rules are of course fine as long as everybody is aware and agrees before the game begins". Here's the actual update.Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
May 9, 2019Don't worry about the venting — it's frustrating. Been on both sides of that. And it's okay to have that OP deck that you whip out for one game for a quick ego-soothing/cathartic win. They definitely need some other decks.Posted in: Multiplayer Commander Decklists
But also, as far as in-game handling, a Wydwen, the Biting Gale permission deck, or even this Phelddagrif deck would be an excellent foil to keep them in check.

And this is how people end up hating Oona decks. The decks power level is overwhelming the group now, especially with playing only that one deck every game.
Anyway, Pithing Needle is the slightly less squishy version, though it allows mana abilities. But this is more of a problem that should be solved outside of deckbuilding.

Sweet. That's a start. Playing around with that, I now notice that it's sorting cards in an order I didn't expect. Not sure what the criteria is.Quote from molster »the [deck] widget already works with the builder just do[deck]ID OF DECK[//deck]
Dec 15, 2017Well, since this is fresh and the comments are being read, I figured I'd post some initial thoughts here instead of the bugs forum.Posted in: Articles
- Making the Paste Deck option more up-front might save a lot of time for users. It was literally the last thing I saw because it's a small tab on the far right. Perhaps an initial modal question posed when building a new deck that asks the user to choose between building it manually vs pasting a list.
- Integration with deck threads would be awesome, because right now they'd have to be maintained separately. It feels like two implementations of the same feature (decklist and discussion), but I don't see people totally converting their decklist threads over to just this. Some possibilities there (and I tried to think of approaching from either direction):
- Being able to put the same widget in a post as what shows on the main page.
- A widget that serves as a replacement for the [deck] tag that shows the list of cards and such without having to click to a different screen. Possibly multiple widgets (or one with settings) for showing the different sections of the deckbuilder's information such as the descriptions. Maintaining a Primer in two places would be even more of a pain than they already are.
- Integration with the existing [deck] tag such as a new button in the upper right that allows a thread owner to convert the decklist in their OP to: A. create a new deck here if they haven't done so already and associates it with the thread; B. updates the thread-owner's associated deck if one already exists for that thread. Could also be associated to just a combination of userId+threadId per deck. Unfortunately, some selective parsing would be necessary for areas like the Commander decklist forums due to the strong convention of putting the cmc before the card name rather than the actual quantity.
