She is a Breeder, if you look at the egg it's a Vulpix just like her female Pokemon. (yes, I know it's a Ninetails. It's from the Vulpix line.)
She was probably breeding her Pokemon to get that egg. Also, did anyone notice what I've been doing with the Breeders you guys have been meeting? They all have Pokemon from egg groups that would produce eggs and have eggs that correspond with their female Pokemon.
As for your idea I think either could work. The fires will be out once Hydrix gets there with his storm, regardless...
I saw what you did there . . . I also saw something else, which I'm going to keep to myself! Muahahaha!
Also, glad to see Jon and Kate made it out of the Safari Zone . . . Nicolette might have cried had they not.
OOC: Move sets are as per Heart Gold / Soul Silver from gen-IV . . unless that changed when I wasn't looking
You start your journey south once more but are stopped after only a little while by a massive storm on Route 12 (Center)...
You take shelter in the entrance to the cave your Onix dug into the hillside, the same one that contained the abandoned Temple. As the eye of the thunder storm passes over your shelter the rain dies away and for a brief moment you can see the blue serpent, Hydrix, aloft in the dead center of the eye. The eye on last a couple minutes before the storm returns with a vengeance...
What do you do next?
Nicolette and Emberlace decide to explore the cavern some more, returning to the site of the ruins while the passing storm rages outside. (since we're taking shelter anyway, and you brought up the cave, I figure we've got access to it, right? )

While you rest, you look around for anything interesting, and a few minutes of searching later you find a Rare Bone sticking out of the ground...
What do you do?
Hmmm, what's this? Nicolette thought as she pocketed the rare bone in her satchel. I'll have time to think about that later, we need to get going. She whistled for Emberlace, and the pair was off again for Magnolia City with all possible speed (again, Emberlace using a tempered version of agility for a more consistent speed boost)

[spoiler=Currently=You make your decision to help Magnolia City and Sofia. You hop on Emberlace and head south as quickly as possible but you have to stop and rest on Route 12 (West)...
What do you do next?[/spoiler]
The pair stopped for a breather, Nicolette looking around for a while until Emberlace was ready to continue. They had covered a lot of ground, but there was still more to go.
Your group of trainers, the two professors, their students, Judy and Raikou all meet back at the ranger's station in the Southern Antearenae Desert to plan out what to do next.
What do you guys do?
Upon hearing the news that Magnolia is threatened, Nicolette immediately tried to contact Sofia at the gym to warn her. "C'mon, pick up. Pick up!"
"He--o? Nicolette?" a faint voice resonded through the static.
"Sofia! Yes, it's Nicolette. Listen, there are ancient pokemon on the loose now. Three of them. You need to get everyone to safety! Magnolia City is right in the path of one!"
"Oh my, that's --------. I'll get on it right away, and let ------ Isle know -- ---- -- ---- shelter. Storm surg-- --- already crashing onto --- -----." The line went dead, Nicolette trying to determine if the full impact of what she had said made it through the static of the transmission.
It wasn't long before she made up her mind. "Everyone, I'm going back to Magnolia. They need help, and Lazuli isn't far from there, either. Sofia said something about storm surges, so the island probably isn't fairing very well." Quickly gathering her things, and making sure her pokemon were taken care of after the battle, she turned as she was about to leave. "I'll see you later. Wish me luck."
Mother of Moltres, I hope I can get through this one . . . Nicolette hopped onto Emberlace, and the pair sped off toward Magnolia City with all haste. (Emberlace will use a tempered agility to boost her speed)
Hey. This is going to be rough, but if you want to come along feel free to catch up to me. I can't wait to talk to either of you right now, since Magnolia and Lazuli are in immediate danger. You know how to contact me, if need be.

Give my vote to Rix Maadi Guildmage. Aside from her slightly awkward pose (since there's not a lot of reference for why she's like that), I'm digging the style.
Geoff met the other trainers at the Ranger's station. "What the hell happened in there...and is that...TORCHIC?!"
"Hmm? He's yours?" Nicolette asked, as Geoff approached his Combusken. "I thought it was a random pokemon that followed me. He evolved during . . . whatever that was. We barely made it out." She stroked Emberlace's neck as she stood and chatted with Geoff, relaying everything she could remember from the battle.
OOC: Guess I've got some moves to settle . . . Emberlace will have learned Agility, and Fire Blast, and is progressing for Evolution . . . Onix will have learned Iron Tail, and working toward Double-edge . . . I think those fall in the limits? It's been a while
OOC: Rider, you really need to pay attention to your quote contents. Just saying
Nicolette couldn't tell where the voice came from, but the sudden appearance of the large, yellow cat-thing was enough to get her moving again. She hastily recalled Onix, and sought out Emberlace. Thankfully, Arcanine's attack was diverted before it found the Ponyta's hiding place. "Can you sprint? We have to leave. Things are about to get loud . . . " Emberlace tested her legs, and looked at Nicolette. The Ponyta appeared to start a little shaky, but soon had her hooves underneath herself and was moving at a good pace. The pair ran for the exit by which they found the chamber, Nicolette shouting over her shoulder "Torchi . . . I mean, Combusken! Let's go! Now!" Soon realizing that Emberlace was moving faster than her own two legs, Nicolette swung up on her Ponyta's back as they sprinted out of the temple.
OOC: Dice roll, because this is a bit of a risky move, with the battle, and stairs, and everything . . .

OOC: You haven't been directly attacked, though Emberlace is hurting. Jenny is fighting me, Josh, Billy, you, and Torchic (Rai seems to be MIA) with three Pokemon at once. We've knocked out her Houndoom, and she currently has Crawdaunt, Cacturne, and Gengar deployed. Embargo and Sandstorm are in effect for all battlers (3 turns left for Sandstorm, don't know how many turns left for Embargo). Because you've been gone a while, I would imagine Raikou would let you deploy another Pokemon and take an action.
OOC: That helps a bit . . . good thing Emberlace was coming out of the fight, anyway.
As Emberlace and the Torchic escaped to the outskirts of the battle, Nicolette found a safe place for the pair to hide out of the way. Then, taking a few hesitant steps away from that spot (to draw less attention to the hiding pokemon, and still able to keep an eye on them), Nicolette returned her hand to her belt.
Suddenly, she had an idea. "Let's rock, Onix!" The massive creature bellowed as it was released from its pokeball, sending reverberations throughout the cavern and down the corridors (OOC: Maybe Geoff heard/felt that?). "Try to block off whatever that pillar is doing! Encase it with your Rock Tomb!" With little warning, Onix jumped to the edge of the sandstorm, and with a whip-like snap of its segmented body hurled a series of nearby boulders to where the mysterious pillar had begun to pulse with some type of energy.
I saw what you did there . . . I also saw something else, which I'm going to keep to myself! Muahahaha!

Let's not forget the honourables . . . Stormtide Leviathan, Mirran Mettle . . . and Forced Worship for being terrifying.
Mentions to all the rest of Chandra's signature spells, Worldifre, Firewing Phoenix, and Arms Dealer.
And while I know it's spelled differently, this little guy is always going to be Crimson Mudwacker to me . . .
