    Rift-Tide Homarid
    Creature- Homarid
    Suspend 4- U
    Vanishing 4
As long as there are exactly three Time counters on this, creatures you control have -1/-1.
As long as there is exactly one Time counter on this, creatures you control have +1/+1.
    4/4

Homarids?!?!?!?!?! Yikey-doo! I hope more homarids don't start showing up.

@ Scotty Styles: Who doesn't like wordiness? Confusion at the interaction of card abilities is a requisite part of Time Spiral Block, apparently. I would much prefer this to the 90-minute debate over whether Teferi allowed you to Suspend a card at instant speed. (It's YES, by the way.)

Well, I don't remember what I got from my ACTUAL box, but from 24 packs I won at MSS I got:

    2x Damnation
    2x Extirpate
    2x Timbermare
    2x Akroma, Angel of Fury
    1x Crovax, Ascendant What's-His-Bucket
    1x Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

There were presumably other cards, but I have no clue anymore what they were.

extripate is a good card in both standered and extension both need to be competive play thought because about 75% players have alot of cards in there deck that has 3-4 of each card in there deck so it is a good way to easly get all 3-4 of them out you can say it could be a sideboard card im sure you wouldnet main deck it dont doubt the card im sure it will see alot of play

Holy Buffalo Crap on a Cracker, man, please learn proper grammar. It benefits everyone(Plus people can understand your words. I honestly gave up after the second sentence...).

That's my take, But I'm sure I'm biased.

You do know that if you tap your Land - Urza's Tower Swamp, you get 3 mana OR black mana and not :symb::symb::symb:....right?

Most people probably make that leap of knowledge, yeah. Assuming they know enough to put their pants on correctly(I know, I know...it's harder than it looks.).

My top 5, though(since that is actually the topic at hand...):

    Damnation
    Call of the Herd
    Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir
    Extirpate
    Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

Trickbind, Groundbreaker, Serra Sphinx, Boom|Bust, Flagstones of Trokair(It's horrible, I know. I hate myself already and might kill myself solely for putting this on here.) and Stonewood Invocation are all good, also, but those were the clear standouts to me.

    Think Thresholdiness?

    Rift Whelp 2RR
    Creature- Dragon
    Flying
    Suspend 4: RR
If the last counter is removed from Rift Whelp while it is removed from the game, Rift Whelp comes into play with Vanishing 3, gets +3/+3 and has "R: Rift Whelp gets +1/+0 until end of turn".
    2/2

I like this idea, and I like the RU thing from above, but I think you're all missing the implications:

    WIZARDS IS BRINGING BACK PHASING!!!

(albeit in a severely roundabout way, with a large amount of confusion and needless overcreation of reminder text in a single card's text box.)

But I enjoy this idea a lot. Should actually happen.

    Quote from Guesswork
See, but that has no bearing on what I'm saying. I'm not saying "Taplands > Painlands". I'm saying that taplands are playable at the highest levels of competition. They were maindecked in the Worlds Top 8 decks for 3 years in a row. Of course nobody would play them if vastly superior options were available (hence why they started disappearing when the fetchlands were printed), but they will play them when they're not. They enable multicolor, not hamper it like Forsythe suggests. I respect the guy - he knows more about the game than I do by a long shot - but he's just wrong on this point.

OK, don't misunderstand me here. The fetchlands are not too complicated for the Core Set, as I've said repeatedly. Mechanically, taken individually, they're simple enough for new players. They are techy, though. Techy is not a good thing for cards that have to help build the foundation of every deck a 10-year-old kid has to play, and it's not so good for one of the marquee rare cycles of the set. It's good for a few select cards that can ease new players in to the real mind-benders of M:tG. Let the new players have Teferi's Puzzle Box if you want them to have a techy, non-intuitive, skill-developing card.

Mostly, I object to your sink-or-swim attitude towards new players. Throw them a rope, already!

If you reprint the fetchlands you are throwing them a rope, albeit a lead one.

Seriously, I would prefer if they reprinted fetches, CoB/Coliseum, and filterlands in 10th. (seeing as how they're obviously NOT going to reprint Birds of Paradise.) These lands are:
    A) Not uber-powerful, but still good in a large number of situations.(if you want uber-powerful, just reprint power 9, duals[true A/B/U duals, you dual-fools], mox diamond, et al.) This seems like the power level of base sets in recent years.
    B) I don't have a set of all fetches, and all M:tg desicions must personally benefit me to be considered "good". Grin
    C) They show an attitude on the part of WotC that they support non-n00b players in core set desicions, and this would be a good show of faith towards the majority of magic players. I'm sorry, but Mirage-era fetches??? MaRo may be a complete nincompoop(or not, have your own opinion; I lean towards neither.), but he should know enough to figure out that such a TRAITOROUS MOVE would prompt mass derision and public defecation on cards not seen since the horrible epoch of Darksteel(you all know which card I'm talking about...death to it!!)(ok, for you slow learners out there...it was Skullclamp.).
    D) I'm done now. Go fiesta. Dance Lock Hi-Five Jam

    [EDIT]ENEMY FETCHES...MUST HAVE ENEMY FETCHES...

I am ranting so I will end this now. Please for the love of all that is good and pure in this world, let this debate die; Damnation will not be replacing Wrath of God.

Yeah, it probably won't. It should, though; if all things were right with the world(green removal/counterspells, white burn...).

I personally would rather have Damnation.

Those who say something other than Spellshift are wrong, and the ones who say "OMgZ SPELLSHifT HaSS Uses!!11!!" are at least aware of the fact that it's crap. Muddle the Mixture does the same thing for two blue mana with no drawback, plus it tutors in a pinch. This costs two more mana and it has a drawback, and it's too expensive to use on yourself.

Beast combo: Beacon of Destruction+Doomsday+Spellshift+What's-it-thingy-ripple-artifact-deal-from-Coldsnap+(unnamed instant)=...I still lose. NNNNNOOOOOO!!!!...

    So, obviously Spellshift loses.

I would also prefer using Torchling to Hunted Dragon though comparing the Torchling to Arc-Slogger is just wrong. The slogger will always be one of the best creatures of red, maybe even the best game-turning, while Torchling doesn't really come close to that. Since we're already playing with white I'd use a few copies of Firemane Angel too.

I'm not too fond of the Shivan Wumpus, like said before, most cards that gives your opponent options are usually a bit worse than they first seem, though there are a few exceptions, such as Fact or Fiction and Browbeat

You don't like the little Torchy bugger? C'mon...he's awesome. Just play UR Control with him...he & Serra Sphinx as win conditions. Hooray.

Also, I like the wumpus, but he fits better in RW Blink with Avalanche Riders, as then you can save him from removal while allowing his ability to mess with your opponent at the same time. Just play to his strengths, and he's lethal.

In other words, if a timeshifted card was moved into its “normal” color – you wouldn’t blink if the card was printed in a Core Set or a set like Champions of Kamigawa – then it was called a Tom"

If Damnation was printed in a Core Set, there'd be WAY more than just blinking going on. Especially if Wrath of God was leaving, there would be hell to pay. Therefore, it is not a Tom.

Yeah, there would be more. There would be celebration and jubilation. And stuff. So it should be printed in 10th Edition. Otherwise, I'll have to kill a puppy.

  • posted a message on What happened to split second?
    Quote from Wildfire393
I beg to differ actually. Again, with just about everything you say:
The decline of split second WAS inevitable, but not because it is uninteresting. Effectively, it had to decline because it is overpowered. The split second cards from TS added 10 uncounterable spells into the environment. Adding any more than the two they did add would make countermagic (and activated abilities) largely worthless.
Cannot be countered is far from worthless. One of the biggest concerns in competitive magic is countermagic. An entire class of cards immune to it is a Big Deal(TM).
However, its the unrespondability that really makes it. Sudden Shock is an amazing card in older formats. Why? Cards like Pyschatog and Wild Mongrel are all but immune to conventional burn and incredibly powerful while doing so. Sudden shock answers them, negating countermagic AND the creature's built in defenses.
And split second is hardly "poorly thought out". It was excellently crafted to A) Resemble an old, nostalgic, an discontinued card type (interrupts) that doesn't work otherwise under current rules, and B) Explore the possibilities of an unexplored area. "How much better would <spell X> be if it was faster than everything else?"
As for overpriced, are you insane? If anything, it is underpriced. Split second largely costs less than a single mana to add to a spell. And a straight up shock with split second would be FAR too good. Sudden Shock as it is now is played even in some legacy and vintage decks, and is all over the place in extended. Any cheaper (without somehow weakening it by sorcery speed or no-player restriction) would be insane. And it is far from unplayable. If anything, it is the one card in TS that will have a lasting effect on older formats.

    Rock on, Wildfire. Rock on.

I Want more Split Second cards, man!! Split Second is teh awesomeness-xxors!!

Hmm...I'd really like to go GUR just so I could use Niv & Keen Sense to be awesome, plus then you could call it "Angry Doll" ("Grr...Stuffy Doll ANGRY!! Stuffy Doll NEEDS TO KICK SOMEONE IN THE FACE!!")

    ...

No? Just me who thought that was awesome?

    OK, then.

Seriously, though, I think U/R would be a much easier time if you're trying to play vs. aggro-control or straight control, and R/G if you're mainly facing straight up, steroids-and-amphetamines, teeth-broken-off-at-the-gums aggro beats. So it really depends on the meta.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some a R/W/U land destruction deck with flagstones, avalanche riders, momentary blink, shivan wumpus, boom//bust, and maybe greater gargadon as a finisher. I don't know how competitive this will be, but I think it would be a fun casual deck if nothing else.

R/W Land D seems very possible, Avalanche Riders, Boom//Bust, & Wumpus work, and definitely Flagstones, but it needs that oh-so special touch. How to achieve that, you might ask. (or, How can I achieve that?, if you know grammar)(oh wait, MTGS forums, so, howz do me aget teh land-d to be awesums wit h still use akroma!!!!11!1!!?!1)

The answer, and you'll love it(!):

Play MonoGreen Awesomeness & tell your opponent it's Land-D. They won't know. Obviously they'll be incurably addicted to meth.

idk...ive never seen a sliver deck be viable for type 2...and also...life and limb? congratulations...a wrath of god or damnation is now a 4 mana card that removes every permanent you control except hivestone

Calm yourself. Seriously, just because it's horrible & makes me want to reach through the computer & smack him upside the head...

Nah, jokes. It looks ok, but Hivestone + Life & Limb? If you're playing Slivers, & you don't want to be horrible at Magic & ridiculed by 3-year-old children (who are beating you by topdecking Wrath & utterly ruining everything you stand for), just go RWB. C'mon...Cautery Sliver? Necrotic Sliver? Sedge Sliver? Various other slivers that I don't want to list due to laziness? It's incredibly good. (Well, no, but probably better than this mank.)
