  • posted a message on not your average pool
From what I understand, someone had an account of what the black mana CIP-Tapped Rav-Mechanic FS land does, and, due to a typo, had it work as:
:symtap:: Add black mana to your man pool.
Let's all laugh a whole lot at that gender-slash-Magic the Gathering-based humor. Ready? Go!

Like she couldn't have had two swords?

As for the whole tower thing, well that was indeed ignorant of me, my only exscuse is that I was playing magic when I should have been play attention in school.

The word you're looking for, sir, is paying. Paying attention in school. Or I might be wrong. Did Wizards release that new card game called Attention yet?

ATTENTION: The Game Sensation That's Sweeping The Nation! New This Spring From Wizards of the Coast!!

(Note: that was a joke. As far as I know. Calm down, everybody!!)

Anyway, I think it is reasonable for there to be an Artifact - Equipment called Mask of Night's Reach in Future Sight, but since everybody is up in arms about its legendary status...what if it were the only non-legendary permanent in Future Sight to have Grandeur? Huh? Huh? Pretty 'legendary', huh? Yeah?!?!

    ...

OK, I have no clue. Gaaaaaaaaaah

  • posted a message on Red Pact Spell? Play now, Pay later...
Melriken: Yeah, let's give Boros an uncounterable, free, 5-damage instant. Yeah, I think that's reasonable for any format(plus, you kinda, sorta, maybe, win a lot with Isochron Scepter & Stifle. (untap, use Scepter Numero Uno to Stifle "Red Pact" 's delayed upkeep trigger so's I don't lose, draw, use Scepter Numero Dos to burn you for 5 uncounterable damage, go...) So, I don't think so, no.) .

A good attempt, but it causes more problems than it solves. I vote for either Land Destruction or Threaten craziness.

OK, well, we're in Dominaria post-Ice Age, everybody, so I don't think it would be named after Kjeldor or after Argive, but how about Benalia?
    Benalish Barracks
    Land - Plains
Benalish Barracks comes into play tapped.
Forecast - :symw::symw:, Reveal Benalish Barracks from your hand: Put a 1/1 Rebel(Soldier? What does prevaling opinion say?) token into play.
: Add white mana to your mana pool.

I think it's fairly plausible, especially with the double-:symw: Forecast cost. What do you say?

  • posted a message on clarifications about split seconds, remand and bouncing permanents
    Quote from Phreak
hi, tried reading some threads about remand but can't really find what i'm looking for, anyway, would like to ask some questions:

    for split second:

1.) how fast is split second? coz a friend of mine told me you can remand a split second spell, but it won't get countered...but you can just draw a card..
is this possible? coz i was thinking that split second spells resolve before anything else therefore remand won't be able to "see" it since it already resolved and is already in the graveyard....

2.) scenario: necrotic sliver as the only creature in play. opponent taps 3 mana source, as soon as he/she does so...can i use sudden death/sudden shock to kill the creature, making him unable to do anything with the 3 mana, therefore causing him to burn 3?

    for remand:
3.) can remand be used as cantrip, meaning player just casts it to draw a card? i would have thought it's illegal since there is no legal target?

    for bounce:
1.) player uses magus of the disk's ability to wipe the board clean, then in response uses boomerang/whitemane lion to bounce it to his hand, possible, right?

2.) does this also work for mangara of condor? making you remove his creature but saving your own?

    any clarification is greatly appreciated...:D

No, no, no, yes, yes. Nice try with Necrotic Sliver, though; I'd probably let it happen anyway, then use the mana before the burn. But that's just me.

Answers that simply consist of "yes" or "no", without any real explanation, are spam, as is strategy talk.

It's notable that even if B A had been on 1 life, he was never in any danger of losing in this exchange.

Oh, not so. Player B could block, put damage on the stack, and ping the Stuffy Doll to ping Player A before trample damage from the Darksteel Colossus could go through.

    Hey. No. Bad.

I want to see Fetches and enemy- Rav-Duals in X rather than any kind of painlands, though. That would be awesomes.

  • posted a message on Urza
OK, after reading the preceding 3 (2 1/2...whatever) pages, I have just a couple of urgent comments.
    1. OK, to the relatively large number of people going on about wanting to see a scan of the poster: THE ENTIRE BASIS OF THE THREAD IS THAT HE HEARD A CONVERSATION ABOUT THE POSTER. HE APPARENTLY DID NOT ACTUALLY HAVE THE POSTER IN HIS POSSESSION. Sorry to burst your not-actually-reading-complete-posts bubbles.
    2. To the random nutcases wanting a mechanized Urza-Robot-Ninja Turtle-Super Saiyan Karn card to appear: PUT DOWN YOUR CRACK PIPES. I CAN ASSURE YOU WITH 99.999% ACCURACY THAT URZA IS NOT GOING TO APPEAR IN FUTURE SIGHT. HE'S DEAD, UNPOPULAR, A DECAPITATED ZOMBIE NOGGIN EVEN IF HE IS ALIVE, AND NOT COMING BACK IN FUTURE SIGHT.
    OK...I feel much better now.
On actual relevant matters: The whole "not remembering the name of the con that this supposed poster was supposedly at" business disqualifies the whole thing in my book. Just another load of radioactive Internet BS. Mildly entertaining, though...

  • posted a message on [LW] Replacement for Birds of Paradise?
    Quote from Wildfire393
Well that's the problem really. People play birds all over the place, making them green's most played and iconic creature, but they have an out of flavor ability that doesn't come into play all that often (though a moldervine cloak on a birds is pretty deadly, and they spot block fliers occasionally). This is the primary reason they have been earmarked for removal from 10th.

I don't know that it's an out-of-flavor ability, per se. In the so-called Modern Age of M:TG, flying has become a very uncommon ability for green creatures, but back in the day haste was considered strange on green creatures. Abilities seem more & less rational at different times. A 'Cloaked BoP is a deadly weapon, but no more than an Armored BoP in older T2 environs(actually, I would say less so. Blanchwood Armor Thumbs Up ; Moldervine Cloak Thumbs Down , purely in relation to each other.)

Leaving BoP out of the Core Set would just be a reinforcement of the fact that Wizards is attempting to strongarm people from playing multicolor in the X-T2 years. All I can do to try & stop this perversion of The Way of The Mana Chicken is to play with my playset of BoP irregardless. Eventually Wizards will come to their senses & errata BoP to read, 'Legal in all formats where Xth Edition is Legal.' If we all work together, we can stop Wizards & their BoP-based discrimination. Hooray for Diversity! Hooray for Frredom! Hooray for Birds of Paradise!

its not like their doing something ignorant and stupid like reprinting fetch lands
from a money perspective they would make more doing it in tenth.
i dont see it as impossible especially since they're would be no other mana fixing after ravnica worth using

You contradict yourself within your own statement, Sir. Also, might I add, spelling, grammar, and correct puncuation are all significant tech.

I could see Wizards reprinting fetches, Grand Coliseum/City of Brass, etc. in X(yeah, 10th in Roman numerals. Believe it.), but any form of 'duals', i.e. the ACTUAL dual lands or additionally 'Rav-duals', would cause me to become enraged & begin a campaign of 'Hulk Smash' upon Wizards.

    Quote from Monopoman
I think having the pre-cons be for newbs is the best way to do it. Then have the rest of the set which is gotten from the boosters be a mix of newb cards and more complex cards.

Doing two sets is unrealistic and they proved that with Portal.

I agree with that type of ideology, but I don't think you necessarily have to have 'newb cards' filling the core set, if you're really planning to do something of this nature. Wouldn't it be more feasible to have a non-printed subset of cards solely available in Core Set starters that allow a more simplistic learning curve of abilities & interactions to allow newer players to learn easily, while also not forcing upon the Core Set a glut of horribly unplayable cards? I think this would be better.

I would SO use Sophic Centaur; it lays on the mad beats.:D

As for worst card in the set, it's a tie between Akroma, Angel of Fury & Damnation. They're unplayable. Just burn them all RIGHT NOW.

(Seriously, though, Phantasmagorian? The best use I've seen this guy have was at 2HG when it was mispronounced 'Phantasmagasm'. To the toilet with you, sir!)

  • posted a message on [LW] Lorywn 4 Sets, focus on 4 Colors
Shaharazad & Pokerbob1: I like those concepts. Combine them into better concepts, though. A four-block set that focuses on interactions between a main color and the other colors each expansion, but allows power creep of one neglected color over the others after the playout of the block. Perhaps it would emphasize how each color treats the notable strong/weak abilities of the highlighted color in that set.
