Unearth has been working for me; digging out a young pyromancer or mentor (a 5th pyromancer, really) or recycling Kambal vs spell heavy decks can be very frustrating for your opponent. Cycling doesn't hurt the card at all. I like Mentor a lot, but need more ways to pitch him and get him back.
This deck needs Faithless looting 5-8 it feels like. The Bedlam revelers help.

May 3, 2019With a huge toolbox available/accessible now; What are the key items we need ? Which ones do we hide in sideboard and maindeck? Whirl and Karn will give us great access to almost anything. I'm 100% putting chalice back in sideboard so Karn can go get it even Game 1.Posted in: Control
Is this now a Karn deck or a Tezzeret Deck?
Sep 10, 2017Posted in: ControlQuote from Reedy26 »dont know if anyone saw this article from last week: http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article.asp?ID=14141&writer=Seth Manfield&articledate=9-1-2017
seth mentions tezzeret but comes up with a more old school list utilising trinket mage and relying more on bridge and tezz ult to win, surely the lack of thopter sword is a mistake though? even just the 2/1 split can be useful in a deck playing big tezz and trinket mage?! also no whir of invention, i get that UUU is gonna be hard for this deck but having at least 1 copy seems useful. guess my point is that whir and thoptersword are still criminally undervalued/played but these other lists still exist and i think its useful to reevaluate their strengths and drawbacks from time-to-time.
I Agree. I run a more classic list as well and thopter+sword is still a necessity next to the tezz ult or darksteels.
Jun 30, 2017I run 3 inquisitions 1 thoughtseize mainboard, 2 thoughtseizes sideboard. I also play 2 collective brutality main (so 6 discard main 2 side)Posted in: Control
I like starting with inquisitions because it can take out their early plays, once we hit the late game I'm generally (Except vs tron) going to crush them anyway. Taking away their tempo or way to get ahead is great. It also gets both Kataki and Stony Silence G2.
I use +2 thoughtseize against combo decks an Tron. Lifetax can be rough because you want to hit them T1 with some discard.
LAtegame you can just discard them to Liliana, it's also a reason inquisition is a tad preferred.
Jun 13, 2017Take a pia's revolution out and replace it with a tezzeret's touch, multiples of revolution on the boar doesn't do anything. Tezzeret's touch is pretty good to bust out a 5/5 early.Posted in: Standard Archives
Maybe use deadlock trap and that other tapping artifact or those guns that charge for [E] and can shoot. Both of those are probably better than those consulate skygates.
Jun 8, 2017Ethersworn canonist is great.Posted in: Control
I have to admit Whirl has been good. (You can even whirl for Canonist).
Pulse is great but EE is the same thing but an artifact.
grafdigger cage works great but do not forget torpor orb - it also shuts down their combo.
Apr 12, 2017Fair is great because of the lifegain. It's nice to tutor for the combo or a bridge sometimes too, but mainly the 1 life/turn is just real imo. It really helps you buy a lot of time, stabilization etc.Posted in: Control
Mechanized Production is a card that is only a wincon imo. We have cards that are wincons and dig us closer or protect us at the same time. I don't think we have room for a card that is wincon only.
UW control is only strong if they get a lead on you; which they only really do with stony silence. Inquisition & Thoughtseize is just mandatory in G2 against white decks because we have no real way to remove enchantments otherwise and it just slows you down to a crawl, which is the only real way they can win.
I would never play expedition map in this deck. Academy ruins is great for grindy matchups but its a bonus, not a requisite. If you're academy ruinsing you're behind a bridge and generally have enough time to draw into it.
Mar 12, 2017Made T8 at a modern tournament yesterday. Everything went fine except against storm.Posted in: Modern Archives - Established
0-2 Death Shadow Grixis
Like Death Shadow Jund but with snapcasters and tasigurs and thoughtscours. Very efficient and quick. Hit each other up with discard, kill some of his guys, block Tasigur with bridge but cannot fatal push him. He ens up beating me the first game after a battle. The second is quicker.
2-0 Bant eldrazi
Fair creature decks cannot beat me
Little surprised to see boggles. First game I have an inquisition a spellskite and a liliana so boggles is pretty sad. Game 2 is more of the same, I even board in chalices but do not need them. I don't think I have ever dropped a game vs boggles with this deck.
2-0 UW flash control
pretty sweet deck. Restoration angels, V Cliques, Snapcasters, Spell quellers, detention spheres, aether vial, flickerwisp . All that good stuff (leyline of sanctity G2.). Goo thing I brought 2 torpor orbs sideboard. G1 he gets me to 1 life G2 I beat him quickly. Ballista is mean vs all these T1 critters.
0-2 UR storm
I place him on jeskai G1 and he goes off T3. G2 I don't get enough disruption in to beat him quick enough.
Still make T8
Play UR storm again. 2-1. He goes off T3 with gifts. very awful.
My decklist is unchanged from above with a sideboard of:
2 torpor orb
2 surgical extraction
2 pithing needle
1 witchbane orb
2 chalice of the void
1 fatal push
1 inquisition of kozilek
1 ethersworn canonist
Mar 10, 2017Chalice used to be my jam but I feel I am stronger when I am proactive. Taking T2 off to drop a chalice on 1 is too rough. Going T1 >swamp > Thoughtseize/Inq/Push T2 >Land > talisman > Inq/Thoughtseize/push is a strong play on your own too, often leaving your opponent with no gas and you with a bird or tezz or fair or something to search.Posted in: Modern Archives - Established
Mar 7, 2017Play 2 copies of walking ballista. Closes out every game. Wins as much as Tezzeret Ultimate. Recycle with academy ruins is just ridiculous. Kill all the bobs, hierarchs, blinkmoths, signal pests, all that horsecrap. It also finishes off your opponent, your mana always goes somewhere. Card is insane in this deck.Posted in: Modern Archives - Established
Feb 24, 2017went 3-1 tonight:Posted in: Modern Archives - Established
2-1 vs Cheeri0s. Mulled to 5 2 games. Just kind of discard his stuff, kill his srams/puresteels.
in: Thoughtseize + inquisition etc
2-1 vs Esper Control: Recurring walking ballista with Academy ruins is just impossible for them to deal with. Fatal push is good vs collonade.
in: Thoughtseize + inquisition
1-2 Affinity: got stuck on drawing 6-8 lands in a row G3 while hovering on 2-3 life while he's attacking under bridge with ornithopter + signal pest. I have inventors fair until he draws the arcbound ravager
in: pithing needle vs plating/ghirapur aether grid etc
2-0 vs Grixis delver: G1 I win, G2 he gets stuck on 2 land and doesn't flip 3 delvers for several turns.
In: discard, cyclonic rift vs tasigur/angler, hero's downfall
out: bridges, fatal push is bad vs tasigur/angler
I won several games by running Walking ballista's out there and shooting whatever necessary or just attacking until walking ballista gets killed then recurring it with academy ruins. This card is Great.
