Well... I guess I will keep an eye on them for when they inevitably release the next $1000 card >:(

They *will* mess up at some point. And it will be an issue.

Of course, there's also the chance that this is just marketing speech to cover them already having ordered them and having to ride out the supply (similar to foil tokens at FNM). It seems unlikely, but possible.

The decision to have unique buy-a-box promos was likely made when the sets were finalized, which was a considerable amount of time ago. The cards had already been ordered by the time WotC knew that is was unpopular.

That's only partially true. They knew back in 2013 that it was a bad idea, and players hated it. Then they, apparently, decided to forget it and had to relearn it again this year. I have a sneaking suspicion that by the end of 3.2, there won't be any guilds left to speak of on Ravnica at all.

Aren't the magically enforced guilds already a thing of the past? It seems pretty obvious that 3.3 will be bolas vs. ravnica, but the guild structure isn't something that will just disappear from Ravnican culture.

So we've got dual lands in Amonkhet, and we're heading to huge multicolored plane, does that mean we might see fetchlands in M19?

VERY unlikely. Shock+Fetch turns standard into "the 60 best cards, colors be damned", and makes a very boring standard.

Check lands are also a thing and while not game breaking they combo very well with shock lands.

Sure, the main difference though is that with shocks and fetches in the same environment, every single fetch can get every single color of mana.

Apparently Wizards got the idea that people really like unique buy-a-box promos. Confused Could this actually be true? I thought I remember a recent Blogatog post saying that they'd heard us "loud and clear", which I assumed meant they'd gotten a lot of heat for it...

This. It was pretty clear from the reaction that people didn't like it. My assumption is that they ordered a certain number of them all at once so they already have them printed, and are just hoping we forget that we hate them.

Lands are rare because WotC does not want that much good mana fixing in limited. Also, from a business standpoint, everyone who runs multicolored decks will want dual lands, so it makes sense to make those enabler cards slightly more difficult to acquire, to drive up booster sales.

No, your second point is the only reaosn. Lands are rare because wizards wants to sell more packs. Has nothing to do with limited.

In other words -- WotC has no interest in growing or improving Legacy and Vintage, they are in pure "maintenance mode".

Fetches can be used to grab whatever dual land you need or basics in case of blood moon / back to basics / wasteland.

theres a reason why fetchlands are the most played lands in the format

That is like, the complete opposite of an answer to the question. I know why they are amazing. I'm asking why they can't be banned. In other words, why is their presence in the format untouchable.

I hear frequently that the combination of fetches and duals is one of the pillars of legacy, but I don't really know what that means. Why is the combination of Duals and fetchlands in its current form so vital to the format [as opposed to being vital to current meta decks] that any suggestion of changing it is considered heresy?

What we really need is a set of decks like this for Legacy. If they intend on keeping Legacy alive, they must lower the barrier to entry.

I think that is a reason a lot of people are pushing Pauper. Its kind of known as Legacy-Lite.

Reserve list notwithstanding, the cost of a pre con Legacy deck would still be through the roof. Wizards isn't going to offer a thousand dollar deck for 30 bucks. So many punches would have to be pulled that it would emasculate the deck and would probably be pointless. I'd love to see more Legacy played but its probably last on Wizards list of priorities. I'd assume they may try Modern versions of these but would guess they would have a hefty price increase correspondingly.

Legacy Burn could fit, especially with the printing of new almost-as-good-as-goblin-guide 1 drops.

Are there *any* other tier 2 or better legacy decks that could be made into a deck with value less than $100?

And yet again, the new commander decks come out the literal week after GenCon.

What did GenCon do that pissed WotC off SO much?

The MTG community as a whole is incredibly toxic.
It really bothers me when people think things like this. All of our LGSs have been great places to play, with very few issues with other players. The vast majority of magic players are fine, normal people. There are bad apples in every community.

You know how the saying goes: One bad apple spoils the whole barrel. That's why it's imperative to root out those bad apples from the Magic community.

    Reminds me of a joke:
What do you call a drop of wine in a barrel of raw sewage? Raw Sewage.
What do you call a drop of raw sewage in a barrel of wine? Raw Sewage.

Even an infinitesimal amount of nastiness can be sufficient to ruin an entire lot. If the "isolated incidents"* in magic were lower publicity, it might be fair to argue that Magic Community isn't toxic. But, at least in this case, they aren't they are high publicity. While there are a lot of small welcoming communities of Magic, probably more than aren't welcoming, the problem of publicity ruins many women's desire to go in the first place. So they never discover the communities that are welcoming.

Pretty sure Jeremy uses that term himself. He is a self-proclaimed edgelord and I don't think it is offensive to use his own words.

Social Justice Warrior started out the same way, I think. Could be wrong. Either way it was mostly curiosity.

I thought we shut down the debate forums?

But where are the Blinking_Spirits of yesteryear?

He last logged in 10 days ago, but his last post is from May, when debate got shut down. I pretty much only look in here for spoilers now, and r/magictcg has replaced even that for the most part thanks to all the crazy twitch/curse integration nonsense.

Even if WotC bans Jeremy from attending sanctioned events, they're not going to get him to stop making videos.

100% this, as long as there are edgelords*, there will be an audience for his videos. I only play casual EDH in my basement so I hadn't heard of any of these people so Other than saying "yea, that's bad, don't do that" there's not much for me to say about the actual situation.

*sidenote -- Is edgelord just as much a pejorative as SJW? Just for the opposite side?
