I am up 108 packs this weekend at gp dc going 9-1.

I left GPLexington with an uncut foil rare/mythic sheet of Theros via EDH. Killed the pods on turns 3-4. Long live Zur.

    Quote from mxyzptlk
The fastest combo deck of all time was Legacy Flash/Hulk, albeit legal for a very short time. The win con happens as early as deciding who goes first and you should exploit the tendency of players to choose this when they win the coin flip. Begin the game with Gemstone Caverns in play, tap for blue on the end of their first upkeep (the first time you get priority), exile an Elvish Spirit Guide, and use the mana to cast Flash putting Protean Hulk into play. It dies, the ability triggers and you get to go digging for a win-con. There's more efficient builds than this but I personally prefer fetching up four Disciple of the Vault, eight zero-drop creatures (search for them) and an Arcbound Ravager. 32 damage before they skip their first draw, or 24 if you drew one of the Disciples in your opening hand. Use Pact of Negation to protect Flash from countermagic or the Hulk from Stifle.

Edit: this only works for game one since the losing player in the round will choose to draw first after this little trick; you may have to go all the way to your first main phase! Tragic.
Son of Edit: run Summoner's Pact. It can tutor both the Hulk and the Spirit Guide.

    Irrelevant much?

Just what I was looking for, a 1-4 tournament report! A GP Trial is not a good representation of competitive Magic. I've won GPT's and I can honestly say, I try harder at weekly win-a-box's.

I'm confident there are more Black Lotus' in Europe than the United States. In Europe they buy real power to play with; they don't double sleeve their CE jank Lotus' and covet them like a previous poster stated he did.

Except I didn't exaggerate my prices. I listed current SCG prices for Unlimited versions of the cards. If someone was to buy full Unlimited P9 + Time Vault from Star City Games (which would be a damn fool thing to do), it would cost them $7099.90.

    I'll play along:
Was that price for NM condition or in a condition only acheivable after playing a twentyfour round tournament, unsleeved, on concrete picnic tables?

You're the type of person that would buy a seven year old luxury car and quote brand new MSRP when people ask the value of your car.
Yes, Solaran - a brand new 3-class BMW is, in fact, $30,000. On the other hand, a 2002 BMW 3-class is $5,500.
Similarly, NM POWER is $8,000. YOUR POWER is 1/4 that.
To the uneducated, your signature probably conveys the image you're trying so hard to pull off. Congratulations, Timmy thinks the world of you.

$340-$350 is a more realistic price. I'd happily pay that. $400, I'd pass if I were you.

You seemed to be taking issue with my signature, which was intended to be along the lines of the old MasterCard commercials.

I caught the reference; I was just unaware that Mastercard exagerated the price of merchandise by 400% in their commercials to seem cooler.

I wasn't auditing you. I'm not the IRS, I'm just a player that owns power myself, and knows when someone's blowing smoke.

The late-90s/early-00s were the "Golden Age" of Vintage. Hell, Vintage was fine up until the introduction of Storm in Scourge. Storm largely ruined the greatest format in the game.

I'm not one to push for bannings in Vintage based on power level (because they will probably never happen, Vintage is where EVERYTHING is legal aside from ante cards, subgame cards, Chaos Orb, and Falling Star)...but I would not complain if the DCI banned Blightsteel Colossus, Time Vault, Tendrils of Agony, and Mind's Desire in Vintage.

I'll be nice and not put Grapeshot, Empty the Warrens, and Brain Freeze on the list.

Solaran, I've seen the "before" pictures of your power - if you paid anything over $3500 for the 10 pieces, they took you to the cleaners. In fact, your power looks like it was taken through the cleaners, regardless.
I would almost guarantee BETA power in comparable condition would sell for mid $5k.

  • posted a message on FnM How seriously do you take it?
    Quote from Zanny77
I am always kind of laidback with everything, so although I play seriously, I'm always fine with having a conversation or goofing off a little, at least people who feel the same way. It really depends on who I face. At last week's FNM, I got Top 4. The first match I faced some dood and kicked his butt, but we kinda talked during some of it. Winners bracket, get set up with a dood who's like 33rd in Maine, and he seemed real serious and quiet, so I did the same. I then played one of my friends who usually Top 8's every FNM, and we goofed for a bit, but Game 3 he got mana-boned (2 mana on turn 7? that's crazy) and slammed his cards. I understand he gets frustrated when he loses for horrid reasons (I hate it when an opponent I want to face loses from mana swamp/screw or something dumb) so it was whatever. I then faced some random dood and we weren't sure how we got paired up, but we talked about Pokemon and Megaman the whole match. Was very laidback. Top 8, I face a kid with an Angel deck and obliterate him, but we talk about his deck and he asked me for help with his curve and stuff. Then Top 4, I play one of my other friends who plays Delver, and she wipes the floor with me, but the whole time we were laughing and playing around. I know not a lot of people care about how each match went for me, but this shows the different people and how I act for each one.

    That's a riveting story.

What sense does that make? Counterfeiting a Wall of Roots costs the same as counterfeiting a Mox Jet.

That seller puts up a ton of items at prices that seems to be more about marketing his business than a realistic expectation of selling the items at that price.

    - Ben Bleiweiss

Take it from Ben, SCG knows the exact price-point where a card teeters on "too high" and "I'm too impatient to wait another 3 days on eBay, miswell buy these for 140% more than they routinely sell for".

    Quote from Mike5150
Thanks very much with your help and suggestions guys. I've decided to test the UBg Jace Control route, and I'll probably build Storm as well. Here is what I've conjured up. I'm generally liking how it plays so far:

Any suggestions? Lots of MUD and Storm in my local meta.

Flusterstorms in the board look good against Storm. Perhaps you can run 1 white dual land and some Serenity in the board for MUD. Your list looks good, and similar to lists I've seen doing well. I run SnapControl which shares a good amount of cards with your deck.
