I'd be shocked if at least part of the story wasn't based around the lingering effects of the time rifts. I also think that "Josu Vess, Lichlord" is going to show up as both a card and one of the main antagonists. I'd love to see Teferi but i'm kind of hoping that WOTC saves Squee for later. I think that an immortal goblin w/ a ship that can travel between planes has more than enough story potential for it's own set.

All of the "X's last x" cards are sorceries so we wont be getting a counter for blue. Best guess we get a card draw effect. Maybe 3 mana draw 3, dont untap next turn? Also very possible it's just a bounce effect though..

If supreme will had cost two it would have been awesome and definitely would have seen modern play. At 3 i dont think it makes the cut. I'll echo wpgstevo though in saying I'm glad they're testing the waters w/ more modal spells/variations of counters/and answers in general.

What is the consensus on Archfiend of Ifnir? A giant flying body that can shrink anything the opponent gets out seems pretty awesome but is it better to just prioritize 1-mana cyclers?

A bunch of HoD spoilers came out. From the flavor texts it looks like:
-Bolas wanted the worthy to create an army of super powerful eternals.
-The Hekma falls and Naktamun is overrun
-The GW gets wrecked
-All 5 of the gods are killed
-The three corrupted gods are a scorpion, a scarab, and a locust, they dont seem to have names.
-After Naktamun falls, the surviving Amonkhetu try to carve out a new life in the broken lands. The naga in particular seem to be handling everything that went down fairly well.

I've actually been thinking the same thing since we found out Jace will be in the next set as a castaway. My hope is Vraska will find him, realize he's lost his memories, and invite him to join her crew as her servant. Later Ajani will have to rescue him. This would deepen the Jace/Vraska antagonism and sour Vraska on Ajani (another GW member), helping to set up the, I feel inevitable, Ob Nixilis led UnGate Watch.

Im curious to see how they flavor vampires to make them white. I wonder if they'll do something along the lines of a sineater..like these vampires feed on the diseases of others.

Idk..generally big mana decks stomp all over control decks because they win the inevitability war. I think the ds meta we have now is much better for control than any meta dominated by big mana decks..

So needless to say I have an apatasaurus-sized hype-on for this set but I do have to ask, if Ixalan is going to be a dinosaur set do you think it is replacing Muraganda inthe same way Theros evolved from Arkhos?

So if we take the archenemy image and the trailer it seems like this:

left: scarab god
middle: scorpion god
right: locust god

I think that the middle and right are the same character. The middle has a distinctly locust/grasshopper head.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, two of the images I provided are indeed of the locust god, the second was meant as a reference to the archenemy picture, which I was referring to when I said from left to right.

The scorpion we saw on the archenemy picture is interestingly nowhere to be found in the trailer, or am I missing something?

I was actually wondering if that was a frog head w/ a sarcophogus on it's back. That way we'd have a locust god for the plague of locusts, a frog god for the plage of frogs, and a scarab god for..idk, disease? I hadn't even thought of it being a scorpion tail. Definitely interested to see the third god now.

I'm almost positive that of the three images we got two of them are of the same Locust god. The scarab god looks like a beast! Interesting to note that the scarab and locust god don't seem to have the golden heads their 5 siblings do. Is it possible the gold mask heads were something added to the 5 gods by Bolas? (Or perhaps removed from the other 3 by Bolas).

I really enjoyed today's story (though I agree with everything that Razaketh went down a little easier than expected) beyond his control of Lili he didn't display any magical abilities and was more like a big beast than anything else. I suppose it's possible he is more about deal/ritual magic though. That would explain why he was powerful enough to control Lili and turn the Luxa to blood but has trouble spell-casting in the middle of a battle. At any rate, Razaketh certainly upped the ante for Lili's demons (admittedly Griselbrand and Kothophed set a low bar) and I think we should always have assumed they were saving the best for last. Meaning of Lili's demon loansharks Belzenlok should be the one who really sticks it to her.

I think this is all good news, less GW fatigue, and the core-sets sound like they'll fill in stories from other parts of the multiverse. I love that we have a primary story arc w/ a primary cast of characters (I'm someone who generally likes the GW) but it will be cool if we can start getting slice of life stories again on various planes. How is the rebuilding on Zendikar going? What is Alara like now? Do the Obzedat still have Tajic imprisoned? Has Oona reformed on Shadowynn? Did Ajani's campaign to create atheism on Theros spread beyond Meletis? These are all the kinds of stories I'm hoping the new coresets can be used to tell. What is going on in the areas where the GW doesn't have a presence atm.

Also, if "there may be worlds we only visit for one set" means WOTC is willing to give a go to a Tamiyo focused return to Kamigawa set I will hyperventilate like a Dr. Who fangirl. #Sage's Path 2018

They said they changed the date so people could have time to discuss and consider what was announced w/out overshadowing the new set announcements etc. on wenesday. Im hoping this means unban sfm and Jtms in modern w/ no bans. More realistically, i think it may be a ban on marvel in standard and no changes in modern. Im really hoping they dont ban anything in modern. Despite GDS's recent strong showings i think it is good for the format and deserves some more settling time before everyone breaks out their pitchforks.
