Overall the story was fine, I'm always down to see cruelty getting its' just desserts, but I confess to be a little disappointed in Vivien. The flavor texts attributed to her in M19 were really..well fun. She seemed like someone who just enjoyed exploring the natural world(s) of planes and seeing what was what. I knew her backstory was that Bolas had destroyed her world and I thought a really cool character concept would have been a walker who tries to bury their grief/trauma by fleeing from it, enjoying exploring the vast multiverse. Instead we got another grim, traumatized walker with a tragic backstory. She seems like an interesting character, but not vastly different from Samut, Elspeth, Gideon, Nissa, Chandra and really the majority of others. We still don't know much about her and it's not like she needed to be the Gatewatch's comic relief, but we just have so many walkers who look at the world with a grim, desperate, and haunted perspective. It would've been cool to have a more optimistic character who, despite her past, could realize that there was now an entire multiverse available for her to explore and learn about. Like Jane Goodall w/ a spark. I suppose this isn't so much a critique as hopes not matching reality.

Also, just want to echo the feeling that there REALLY need to be more non-human walkers.

Assuming the eternal sun can be used to exit the plane (which I am since im pretty sure thats how Jace and maybe Vraska will get away) Ugin used that to leave after he retrieved it from Elenda. Agreed that Angrath isnt an old walker. If my theory is right (which again it’s very unlikely) i would guess Angrath to be just one of the latest in a long line of dupes.
I agree though that i think he will probably just be a free agent and my whole idea holds no water :p

Good story today, cool to get a vampire pov and celebrity couple Vrace is fun. I really like how the one event portrayed in “River’s Rebuke” tied everyone’s story together.

I’m starting to wonder if we’re greatly overthinking the importance of Arguel and Aclazotz. This story showed us that Mavren Fein is the legion visionary searching for Orazca and our cast of characters seems preety full. Don’t get me wrong I think it would be awesome to see a demon bat god but I kind of wonder if Arguel and his temple run are more of a feature of the world than a plot point.

Cool story today, good cliffhanger ending. Kumena is the best kind of villain in that he's one with understandable motivations. I wonder if every faction is going to have a "good" representative and a "bad" representative. Vraska is our protagonist while Angrath seems like a walking disaster. Huatli seems like a chill chick while the Sun emperor comes off a little shady, and even though the shapers overall seem fairly benevolent Kumena is clearly ruthless. Maybe in the legion we'll see Arguel as a more moderate force while Vona is butchering away? It would be kind of cool if WOTC showed that there were heroes and villains in every part of this conflict. Even if they don't though I'm really enjoying Ixalan so far.

I just realized that the race for Orazca is clearly the race for the One Piece.

I'm hyped for the MTG shichibukai

On a serious note, good story is good. This was a well written and interesting introduction to "Blank slate Jace" that I really enjoyed. Seeing the way he views Gideon and Liliana (as shown by how they manifest themselves to him through illusion) was pretty cool. I also really liked introduction of Vraska and thought her reaction to seeing Jace was pretty reasonable for what we know of her character. I was already pretty into the world of Ixalan and I'm digging the story so far too.

Im curious about the story behind Mathes the fiend hunter. Fiend hunter would imply he kills monsters...but then he's a vamp..disconnect?

As for Taigam's role and Alison's lore knowledge i think its more that WOTC hasnt decided what they want to do w/ character/worlds yet so they dont want to get written into a corner. As such Luhrs cant confirm answers because the answers arent known yet.

Do we have confirmation that the Wizards deck is Grixis colors?

Also, a couple things from the podcast:

Im stoked that there's a tarkir vamp in the vamp deck and i really hope its not just a Kheru facestealer reprint. The Tarkiri vampires are far and away my favorite vamps in mtg.

Second, its cool to learn that the Stromkirks were fully down for eldrazification. It makes me even more curious to see what condition Runo is in whenever we get a card for him.

I really enjoyed today's story, thought it was great, and probably the thing I liked most was how well the Author showed how much Bolas was enjoying himself. Throughout the entire story you really get a sense that this is someone who's been waiting for something for a very long time and now that it's here he's going to bask in every moment. I don't really mind Bolas being hammy because 1) as others have said this has always been his character, and 2)from the beginning of the story it is made very clear Bolas is not taking this fight seriously, whatever it may mean to the GW, to Bolas this is just a bit of fun, so he's going to play with his food and put on a show. There's nothing wrong with having villains who are "evil cuz it's fun" mustache twirlers as long as they're done well, and in this case I think it was.

I think as cards the Theros gods are more interesting, but as characters both pantheons have been great. And guys, we need the duel colored minor gods so we can get more Kruphix, c'mon now.

One direction that i think could be taken is partnering up the minor gods. For example having a mardu card called "the twins of war" that shows Iroas and Mogis. That would be a way to have cards for all the minor gods while not eating up all the space for mythics and making a huge number of god cards. It would put some wedge/shard colored cards in an otherwise monocolor set but i think a cycle of 5 3-color cards at mythic isn't too excessive.
