I opened 3 in my prerelease pool.. two r/w, one r/g. I played all three in BRw. My only loss was to a guy who went 4-0 who had mono removal. They make your deck so much more consistent and allow for easier mulligan decisions.
Also have been playtesting them in w/b aggro. They let me keep really greedy one land hands because I know I'll be able to find that next land much easier.
What happened at GenCon that you're all going wild over?
for each of the 4 days of gencon, 4 guys would randomly show up simultaneously, each with 25 tickets to buy FTVR at MSRP. (so 100 tickets a day, for a total of 400 distributed sets)
2 of the guys were in the tcg hall
2 of the guys were in the exhibit hall
each day they showed up at a different time and place in each
so there were riots whenever the guys showed up in the tcg hall, and the exhibit hall guys just kinda stood there a while and pushed their tickets on random passerbys.
I had a guy pop out behind me and give me his first ticket on day 1 of gencon though, so I got mine for MSRP and I'm happy. Kinda nice too since I don't have a real LGS around here.
Some people in the MBC thread that I casually follow said that there's some big underground hype for Royal Assassin against Mythic out of the board. I can't believe I missed this card, it seems INCREDIBLE against them as they run so little removal and it usually gets used up on other guys (not to mention they wouldn't see it coming). It's like a basilisk collar / cunning sparkmage combo all in 1 card.
Anybody else think this is an insanely good board card for that matchup?
seems bad against conscription... he only works after you've already taken 10+ to the face
He's easily one of the most powerful cards ever and magic is at an all time high in popularity and number of players, thus his price is justified. He is worth whatever people are willing to pay.
Actually, his high price is mostly because he's one of only two or three really good cards in Worldwake among a slew of crappy mythics.
On average, a pack of Worldwake is worth more unopened than opened, thus dealers aren't opening them, which means new copies are slower to get on the market. If there were a few other good mythics, dealers would have incentive to open more packs, and more Jaces would be on the market.

They're phenomenal.
yeah I noticed it couldn't be from Theros after I posted it and saw set number 1/81

you're thinking of Hero cards, these are different

executioner's capsule is a permanent, it can target emrakul.
Captivating Vampire and Ancient Hellkite.
and vengevine is a highly underrated card in jund anyway.

I think the more interesting thing there is that the top two lists both have Lotus Cobra in them...

What's the logic here? another hasty threat?
