this has been bugging me a bit the past few days, so I'm gonna post here

against tron and given the choice of either ripping their one one payoff or one of their mana rocks/expedition map, do you take the threat, an egg or the map? does having 2 discard spells change that? I was on the draw and took I believe the map first because that represented whatever he needed and then took the egg, leaving him with Ulamog. He then spun his wheels for a long time and drew the last tron land he needed to cast Ulamog turn before I would have killed him, which is variance I guess

Trying to keep Tron off of Tron is a fool's errand. They tend to have more ways of getting to ramped mana than they have threats once they do. You take the threat then try to kill them before they draw a second one.

So my record against Abzan Midrange variants is something like 1-20. Lingering Souls gets me every darn time! I'm pretty sure I have enough answers to it, but I just cannot win. I'm starting to think I'm taking the wrong role in the match-up. Has anybody else had a similar experience? I'm also wondering how you approach the match-up. Do you shock yourself aggressively or do you try to play a slower game? Thanks all!

Are you running Temur Battle Rage? If not give it a try, allows you to run over Lingering Souls.

Hey guys quick question for the side board, which is better; 2 Relic of Progenitus or 2 Rest in Peace? Thanks!

I only like Rest in Peace if you're in a meta where almost every opponent is on a graveyard deck (I haven't had RiP in my sideboard since Dredge stop being THE deck). Question for me is usually "Relic or Grafdigger's Cage"? Overall Relic is usually better, but I prefer Cage if I'm likely to be up against a lot of some combination of Abzan Company/Dredge/Kitchen Finks Deck.

@Spsiegel1987, you really are in the wrong forum to continually harp on how easy and brainless of a deck Burn is. I'm glad that you weren't able to "have some free wins or turn my brain off". Maybe you'll learn to take the deck seriously and stop coming off as an arrogant prick.

Maybe a cheap edit, but it had to be done. Wink

Dare I alter my demigods like this? Hm.

At the very least you found your new playmat.

Question, why are most recent lists here running their 1 off basic land as a Mountain instead of an Island?
With the amount of Blood Moon being played, I would imagine an Island would be a better choice wouldn't it?

The basic land is more for Path than Blood Moon. Many lists are running 4 main board Galvanic Blasts and at most 2 Master of Etherium with no other blue spells. Four red spells vs two blue spells mean you want the Mountain over the Island. Blood Moon isn't even that great against Affinity since most of its spells need colorless and it really only just shuts off manlands. Often taking off a turn to drop a Blood Moon against us just allows us to kill them.

Hi. I have a quick question. I built a budget R/b Burn deck (no Guides, 8 fetches) a couple years ago. If I were to upgrade it, would you suggest adding white or green first, if I don't shell out for Paths?

Honestly your first upgrade should be the Guides.

Went 4-1 to come in second at last night's FNM with the following deck:

Beat Hate Bears, G/R Tron, Mono Blue Tron, and a really cool home brew. Only loss was to Burn in last round. Game one Kalitas stabilized for me and then got there. Game two Burn did its thing. Game three I kept a greedy six card hand. I hoped turn one Dragon's Claw would by me enough time to stabilize but drew no lands and only 3 cmc spells (none more SSG) so pretty much dead. Pretty sure I should have borrowed Chalices for Burn instead of the Claw's. Need to get two more Blackcleave Cliffs to replace two of the Blood Crypts (or possibly run four Dragonskull Summits instead of the Cliffs?) and may need to drop a Swamp for a second Mountain. The sideboard was thrown together last second, and really needs work (suggestions welcome). Other than that I'm mostly happy with first outing of the deck.

I've seen some Kalitas, Traitor of Ghet pop up here and there, but is it really any good? Committing four mana to something that gets path'd right away feels bad. Frown

(without zombies to sac I should mention)

If Kalitas sticks it will often win the game on its own. Chump blocking it gets you a zombie, that you then sac to make it bigger. It can very quickly get out of control.

Edit: You can also sac the Bloodghasts, then play a land and bring them back to sac again.

    Thoughts on Arlinn Kord?

This has no place in a Burn deck.
