So we get 36 new Walkers and the with GRN and RNA they said, that they will color balance them in Standard. So if we look at the non-PW-deck Planeswalkers that are in Standard, we have:
I think it is pretty clear, that most Planeswalkers will not see that much play and many of them will not have the powerlevel of Vivien or Teferi. I expect many of them to be more build arround or minor effects and maybe just the Mythic ones to be really powerful. I expect to get more Planeswalker interaction too, but with Core Set 2020 most likely be color balanced as always and GRN and RNA color balanced too I think it seems obvious, that WAR is color balanced too for the most powerful ones and some nice Brawl Commanders as well as Domninaria was too.
My first thought was, that we get 2 of each color and 2 of each color pair, plus Bolas, Karn and Ugin so he have 3 places left. It would be interesting to see how common they will be, so maybe we get all with Rare or Mythic Symbol, there will be one in each booster, so we will get them more freqently. I expect 5 mono colored and 10 dual colored to be more common than the other ones.
But if we go through the colors, this doesn't seem to fit. The mono colored ones are kind of easy or at least it seems so (you can argue for Nissa being mono G and Yanggu getting another color, but Simic either way has no second obvious Walker so it might just be Nissa). The dual colored ones are a bit more complicated. I can see some color combinations more represented, if they address more different decks and not all go into one strategy (as they did with Dovin and Teferi). Huatli seems RW here, so we have UG, BG and GW as the missing pieces? UG could easily be Nissa, GW could be the one with the hat, but then BG has none... so maybe there will be more 3-colored Walkers with the enemy colored ones just having one cycle and we get 5 Wedge Walkers which could be a connection to Tarkir and Ugin (Sorin as Mardu, Sarkhan as Temur, Abzan could be the hat lady, Narset is Jeskai and then we got Sultai...)? Or maybe Grixis, Jeskai, Abzan, Naya and Sultai?
I think we can maybe see another Planeswalker as the Buy a Box Promo. I assume maybe Tezzeret or is he out of the story, because he is the Planar Bridge or knows what Bolas is up to?
Would Vryn count as a brand new world? I could see it being the start of some character development, but I don't expect Jace to be major player for the first Sets after Core 2020 and I think you cannot go to Vryn without him being the face of the set. I would say the same for Theros and Gideon, if Elspeth wasn't also mono White.
My prediction is: New World with some character development with at least one new (or new in War of the Spark) character and one major character. First Set with some hints to the Phyrexians. Second Set: Major Phyrexian Set with either invasion or Return to New Phyrexia or another Phyrexian world with getting information, that they knew plans, which Plane is next for an invasion. Maybe introducing that world after that plus gathering allies in the sets afterwards including Return to Theros to get Elspeth back - so maybe her homeworld is something, that plays a role? Maybe some of the Planes, that have been invaded, get us some information, how to beat them, Showdown on New Phyrexia?
Pretty sure we will get some kind of Gatewatch in it, but I doubt, they will go full in. They might even split them and do two major plot lines for the next time. I could easily see Jace beeing stuck on Ravnica, as he has work to do there. Maybe Gideons death brings us to Theros, too. And maybe we get more of Liliana, if she survives, but I can't see them killing more than one of the 5 big ones.
I think it has been hinted a few times, that the next plot after the Eldrazi and Bolas will be the Phyrexians, so I really think we will see them back soon. There might be a Set or two, that just set it up, so maybe a new Plane makes sense. I expect to see the surviving Planeswalkers to go different ways and maybe the next year from Rotation is showing sone connections to the Phyrexians and then reuniting them after that. I don't expect them to be as big as the Bolas plot, but Karn seems to be a big player in that story. I think it is a pretty good bet to see a Return to Theros, as most players would like to see Elspeth back and if Gideon dies (which seems really strange for me to see him die before we get to visit Theros with him, but maybe they will bring him to Theros, when he dies, that he can go the underworld?) it seems a good fit to get Elspeth as the mono White main character, that fits really good in a Phyrexian plot line. I really would love to see Dack and Ashiok back too. But I would be suprised if Theros was not at least one set in the 2019/2020 season. With the new set structure I can also see two plots being made together, so we will jump from one to the other after 1-2 sets and maybe mix at some point and most likely it will be dependend on what characters will die, but I don't expect one of their faces to die except for maybe Gideon. Personally I like to see favourite characters more frequently, but that doesn't mean we need more than one version per character in Standard and some rotation would be nice (e.g. see Tamiyo for two years instead of Jace as the blue PW or Elspeth instead of Gideon etc.).
