  • posted a message on Brand new world after Core 2020 confirmed
I don't expect Snow permanents in Standard any time soon and MH1 is an exception with much more complexity.

I have no clue, where we will go to, but the things we know:

Chandra is the face of M20 so she might be really important going forward and she seems to be the face of the new Netflix series as well.

The core sets hints at some things in the next year of Standard - I fully expect Theros and bringing back Elspeth as the new default white PW is one of them. The only things, that speak against it is, that the fall set most likely will have the next cycle of lands, so there will be an equal ammount. Otherwise the Core Set doesn't need to have five, unless they would be a big flavour fail in the fall set. If the next set has temples and Gods, I doubt we will get third cycle for Standard, so maybe no Theros?

We have minor stories with Kaya, Ral and Vraska hunting Dovin, Liliana and Tezzeret.

Garruk might be part of some Story.

Phyrexia might be the next big Story arc, which would make sense with Elspeth coming back. Tezzeret could be Father of the Machines, but I would expect to get this started slowly. But I think it is most likely, that we will see the start of it in the fall.

Have you played with these lands the last time? They looked underwhelming then too, but they were great - and they will be great in Standard again and I like them much more than the BFZ or Shadow lands we got. They could have done something new, but Standard is more important for WotC as other reasons players wants - and they are right - if Standard is bad, the game has a Problem.

And one thing, most people don't think about: most times there are 2 rare Duals per color combination in Standard (few exceptions like last rotation). So this is more for rotation and we get an ally cycle with Archery - maybe the other temples, maybe not. This way we will constantly have enough duals after rotation. What that means for a return to Theros? No clue...

Easy include for straight UW Miracles in Legacy. Otherwise worse than normal Fetches.

Both are confirmed since very early on, just seems like things most people are obviously not interested in:

Any chance we will see a Bolas' Defeat card?

If I recall correctly Maro said, that the Council of Colors has overseen the complete set, so we can rule out something like Sylvan Library or Swords etc.

I think we will most likely not see any reprints or new cards, that could easily be in a Standard Set (like the enemy colored cycling lands). I doubt we will see anything, that obviously goes straight into the unfair/non-interactive decks in the Format. I expect them to print mostly three things: 1.) Interactive spells 2.) Hate cards like the M19 ones, but much more powerful or modal 3.) Tribal support.

The two cards shown, seem a bit like they might want to push BW Tokens or something similar, so maybe they will push more strategies, that are not that good or not problematic.

Easy inclusions for me (either reprint, slightly better worded or in modern design like an Astral Slide, that only triggers when you cycle something):

    1.) Innocent Blood
    2.) Counterspell
    3.) Containment Priest
4.) Mono colored Cycling lands and support.
5.) Goblins, Elves, Merfolk and Faeries support.

I for myself would love Vindicate and Council's Judgment in the format or two slightly tweaked versions of them.

I hope not. You mostly have to work a bit to the ultimate you just don't start with sure. Sure Teferi is powerful, but others are to and many end the game much better as Chandra or Elspeth etc. I think it is not that trivial to get and it's fine for Control to get a wincon that way. If you just don't like it to take longer, you can always concede.

Weisman said, he had some cards with all the Planeswalkers and looked for teamups, that makes sense, so I expect a lot more of them. Really looking forward to that. But I am not that smart, to see much more of them Smile

EDIT: Drawing the line just isn't our job. Ob is working with the others against the Gatewatch, at least in one situation. I think we can call that confirmed.

I think it makes a lot of sense in some ways. Bolas tries to bring Planeswalkers to Ravnica and trap them there. Then we seems to want their sparks to become a god again. Seems an easy bet, that Ob doesn't like that plan at all, after losing his spark once before. I think these three will try to manipulate the Immortal Sun.

I am just looking forward to see, which other team-ups we will see. I expect nearly all Planeswalkers (and Guilds) to fight against Bolas sooner or later, so there could even be another Ugin, Sorin and Nahiri team for at least the conflict or a certain situation. I expect Tezzeret to not show up, because he ist he Planar Bridge and he has to save Bolas (as he can't leave Ravnica on another way than Tezzeret) - and maybe he betrays his master?

I like to see which Planeswalkers will team up. I think Karn, Dack and Ob might want to do something with the Immortal Sun? Seems like it makes somes sense. I would love to see Ugin to work with Sorin and Nahiri again.

When I recall correctly, Maro said once, that there was a lack of mono Green Planeswalkers (since Garruk is GB now), so they created Vivian. So I basically don't expect them to get rid of most mono colored ones, especially the ones, which have different things going on. I can't really see them getting rid of one of the Face Walkers either, except Gideon (the new one seems white and I fully expect Elspeth to be mono White again, too), but he has some kind of is own style going on. I expect to see some of the older walkers not getting out of it like Jaya, Teferi and maybe even Ugin, Sorin and Nahiri, though they seem likely to be unique enough. Most Planeswalkers have something going on, which could easily be explored later, so maybe they will keep those more likely than others. Since we got most Planeswalkers in RG and UW, I fully expect to at least see one of them biting the dust as well as some of the ones, that aren't very popular or not that much explored like Angrath, but I think we will have at least one of every color combination surviving. And I am really looking forward, which one has the most target on himself from Bolas point of view. I fully expect most Planeswalkers and Guild to team up against him, even those we are not expecting yet.

Has someone added all possible colors? I think red might even without Sorin in Mardu on top.

That is nothing like this Showdown. If Bolas wins, all Planeswalkers we know will either lose their Spark or die with Bolas being unvincible and the Story basically ends forever. The Gatewatch will win. Most (or all) Guilds and other Planeswalkers will turn against him, when they see, what is happening and then he will maybe not be killed, but weakened or prisoned like it was planned with the Immortal Sun before. Maybe Tezzeret plays a role here, but I think he will be one of the main antagonists for the Phyrexian plot, that seems to be coming next.

I don't think the Bolas Walkers will be color balanced at least not for all color pairs and WG seems like the obvious fit for not being Bolas alligned. Dovin's Acuity says they were 6 Planeswalkers including Tezzeret. Bolas might have more on his side, but Ob Nixilis may just be against the Gatewatch and I assume Vraska will not be the only Walker that will turn agsinst Bolas, when his plans become more obvious. I would just like to see, how Ugin comes to the Plane or how Sorin and Nahiri end up there, which could be really nice side storys.
