What’s the state of the art on the black 5-drops ranking?
Shriekmaw is first i guess, but i’m not sure about the others (Doom Whisperer, God-Eternal Bontu, Custodi Lich, or even walkers like Amonkhet Liliana and Ob-Nixilis) but none of these hit me as a staple. What’s your opinion?
An extremely hard slam dunk at 360, I think the power level is there, and supports a slew of different strategies, making in the perfect cube card. Skinrenderer will be the cut. (Even though it has good synergy with the card)
This is a cool card but I don't think it's close to being a 360 "extremely hard slam dunk".
I personally wouldn't play this in 360 powered over Skinrender and Ravenous Chupacabra, both of which have more immediate impact / payoff.
This card is just a bit durdly for what it's trying to do, with neither of the activated abilities being a particularly good rate.
Fun card, but a bit fair overall when you could be doing things like Recurring Nightmare for 3 or Animate Dead for 2.
The point is that Yawgmoth does something very different from those cards. While 187 creatures are always good cards, Yawgmoth helps as both a payoff and an engine for specific archetypes, giving them consistency. In my opinion sometimes it's not just about which card is the straight best
I feel like this card is a trap. It seems good, but it can absolutely be played around to net themselves mana and rebuy back onto the board in a better way than just playing around a wrath.
I think this card is insane in formats where there are not a ton of basics floating around.
What i’m about to say is not always true, but once your opponent gets to six mana and has a valuable board to kill then he probably won’t get much value from further ramp, while if you play vs a ramp deck and you cast this card without getting some fatty out you’re doing something wrong. There’s also the possibility to solve a board stall and swing for lethal/kill some walkers
Where do you think this ranks in black's 3-drops though? I feel like it's hard to crack them.
Is it? I think the only untouchable ones are Flesh Carver and Ophiomancer. I could easily see this in place of something more classic like Hypnotic Specter or Nighthawk
The six we've now mentioned are the ones I've run and I'm having a hard time seeing this being better than any of them, but maybe I'm just undervaluing the effect. Sure you can name "elf" against mana dorks but... I feel like a lot of the time it's just going to give a single creature a -1/-1 for a turn. Maybe I'm wrong.
Why “for a turn”? The effect lasts until it leaves the battlefield, if you decide to play it as a 2/2 Deathtouch you’re just using its floor. When played on curve it’s usually not hard to find an X/1 to kill, while if played later it can really decimate a token board or put to shame token generators and armies-in-a-can like Hornet Queen, Myr Battlesphere, Bitterblossom etc

Do you value Gideon cc4 over Elspeth cc4?

Under the assumption that snow = basic, is this nuts enough?

Thoughts? The cc2 mode is not stellar (worse PtE), but the cc6 one is kinda swingy. I feel like this is a cc6 spell with a cc2 failsafe
