The Golem was in so my targeted spells would benefit not only the Golems, but also MU. But I think he's already out. Call to the Kindred...not sure...I'll post an updated list soon, because I need to get my hands on a Master of the Pearl Trident anyway
Indeed :). Also, I don't have this deck in real life, so the tinkering isn't very necessary, although it could still help people who want to build a Myojin deck :).
And stores that don't have their regular FNM?
I assume they will be on the next FNM or on the Gameday?
(In the Netherlands we remember the people who died in WW2 on the 4th of May, on 20:00. So our local shop is closed for the evening)
Seriously? They close for the evening? We will start before, stop at 20.00u for a moment of silence for the fallen and then continue with the draft. Sounds a bit drastic to just close the shop... but that's his choice of course.
We have 6 places left in Delft if you are really quick
One question about a card: Why play Precursor Golem? I've always considered this to be a bad card unless you have the right deck for it, since the chance of it backfiring is pretty high. The only cards you have to combo with it are Artificial Evolution (meh), Distortion Strike (hmm), and Rite of Replication (awesome, but only one card out of 99). Even the latter card would end up killing Mr. Ultimate. I'd say you take this one out and replace it with one of the many blue Slivers, like:
Shadow Sliver (more evasion for Mr. Ultimate) Synapse Sliver (combos with the other evasion stuff for card advantage) Synchronous Sliver (wow, a blue vigilance card... hooray for Planar Chaos)
I didn't want it to be a blue Sliver deck, but I did get rid of the Golem. Not sure why I played him anyway...
I vote for the Shadow one, and dare I say you get rid of the Trinket Mage for the one of the other two. Right now, the Mage can only grab Relic of Progenitus, Sol Ring, and Blade of the Bloodchief, oh, and Seat of the Synod. The artifacts aren't bad, but nothing worth wasting a creature for.
There isn't a lot of searching in this deck (which is a good thing in Commander is my opinion), so the little I have, I'd like to keep. The Mage gets me acceleration, a big p/t boost for my Vampire Commander or a way to stop graveyard decks. That's quite potent in my book! Although I must agree with you partly, and that is that his fit in the deck isn't optimal. He stays in for me, but please do dump him if he doesn't work for you :).
Ditch the Seat of the Synod for a Reliquary Tower. That card advantage can fill up your GY quick if you don't stop the discards.
I never had too many cards in hand. I'll think about it :).
Wand: Agreed, I play one in my Azami Wizard Tribal deck, so why not here?
Conscriptioin: not tribal enough
Commerce: you really need more Merfolk for that. I played it, and it didn't do enough.
Illusionist: Really nice card, only cut because it's not tribal.
Battle-Axe: I dropped this, not sure why...probably because I wanted protection over haste
Armaments: I hardly ever attack en-masse.
Aquitects: tried it, didn't love it
i agree with greaves, but i use both greaves and cloak, just seems that increased chance of drawing protection for ultimus is important in my experiences. Thats just me though =)
Agree, but there's just so much room in a deck...:)
Further playtesting today. I'm playing with 35 land, so I have a Sol Ring, Armillary Sphere, Mycosynth Wellspring, and Solemn Simulacrum, along with all of the other mana doublers. Really need the mana for Blue, since ramp is a lot slower than Green, White, or even Black. Maybe I should replace the Wellspring with a Platinum Myr, just in case I want to go inf mana (double Myr Galvanizer + enough Myr mana).
I'm not one for infinite combo's. The Sphere is nice, I'll consider that. The Wellspring...I have no good way of saccing it.
Also, I'm not really liking the shroud on my commander. Scion of Oona actually saved my cmdr once, but after that, I couldn't do any of my target land tricks, or shapeshift, or any of the fun stuff that works. I'm taking all of my shroud stuff out to replace with hexproof (including replacing Greaves for Boots). Champion's Helm is a good one, and Mask of Avacyn also works, but I like the Helm better. Protections also work, too. Akroma's Memorial gives a nice boost.
Hexproof is better, but wasn't available when I made the deck. I'll consider them. Memorial is cool, but expensive ($-wise) :).
That leads to my other problem: Commander damage. I seem to regard this deck as more of a Voltron deck, using the creatures as boosters, but there's not enough of a Cmdr dmg element to it. It needs some better boosters like:
Sword of Whatever, *more cards*,
Agreed, but the Voltron style is my way to go for this deck :). Power is less important than being Voltron. But a few Swords wouldn't hurt Ultimus :).
What the #$%@ was that? Talk about a total beatdown with this deck. One of the true stars was Rhystic Study, which carried me throughout the entire game. Literally. It did not go away. That card advantage gave me Caged Sun, Extraplanar Lens, Grand Architect, and eventually Gauntlet of Power. That's 4 mana for every Island. I ROFL'd when Treachery came out. At that point, I might as well have infinite mana. The extra clone I put in also came in handy, as did Blatant Thievery, which gave me some Greaves and Debtors' Knell.
Granted, that was a pretty lucky game, but I've never seen anything like that.
Cool :). Behold the power of Mr. Ultimus :p. Although it sounds you won without him :D.
i have been working on the paper version of this deck for a little bit and i use Long-Forgotten Gohei as another cheap lord. An all star in my deck is also Cloak and Dagger. since your general is a magnet of most creature hate when he hits the field, protection is very important. We don't want our Mr. Ultimate going away before he gets his licks in!
I considered the Gohei, but he just didn't do enough for me. The Cloak is a nice card, but I rather play Lightning Greaves.
I absolutely love it that you are inspired by my deck, because it's one of my favorites :).
I think you have made excellent choices in the budget cards! I'd play them if I had the room. I also included a Call to the Kindred in the deck. Not sure what I took out, I'll post an updated list soon.
*10 seconds later*
Oh, I saw Mistform Warchief and that was the card I cut for it. Was a hard choice, because he's foil in my deck :p. He never did enough, I was never happy to draw it.
Anyway, please let me know how it played and what deck you made, and what changes you recommend. I'll do the same and we'll see how we do and how we can help each other :).
I have updated the first post with my current list, and here it is as well:
Thanks, it's still a blast to play :). Nobody expects to lose from mistform ultimus :D. If I remember correctly I did used to play Runed Stalactite, but I cut it because it didn't do enough and I wanted to include something else...but I can't remember exactly.
Still, now I think about it, it would fit very well in the deck...Hmmm, I'm going to reconsider it, thanks!
I think I completely overlooked it :p. But still, it won't happen that often you have both cards out :). The upside is that it's easy to take out a card if you want to put a new one in ;). Good catch!
Both are true :). I made over 180 decks for every Legendary creature without a Commander home. I only own about 20 Commander decks ;).
Still, posting ideas for these decks isn't a bad idea! I might not benefit me, but it will for everybody reading these threads for ideas and suggestions :). So keep it up!

Most of them are substandard or just plain not good enough
