Modern is the format where snapcaster mage is the best card. And blue is still "not good enough". Even though most decks splash blue. Dimir or esper control is viable build with what you pulled just maindeck 4 fatal push. And 4 remands.

Really? Your complaining about one of the most powerful edh cards ever printed? Enabling infinite Venser lockdowns, the ability always have counterspell mana open. The ability to flash in myojins and other overpowered cards. You must be insane to thin its not that powerful. Dies to doomblade? Hardly, its in the colors that can easily make it untargetable. Easily indestructible with counterspells to protect its protections. The card is too good.

    Quote from Jeff2302 »
I am dismantling my Geist French Commander deck and I am looking to build semi-competitive Voltron deck, therefore the options must include UW because I already have the base for it.

I am looking for a non-glass cannon Voltron deck (non-gung ho attack and kill 1 player and then run out of gas), at the moment I am considering Geist of Saint Traft, Rafiq of the Many or Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest. I was thinking of a rather small creature count of around 15-20 containing Voltron-able creatures and support creatures, the aim of the deck would be to ttack and win via commander damage or via normal damage (which is undoubtably harder) without using Mass Land Destruction

Geist of Saint Traft - This would be the cheapest to build.

Rafiq of the Many - This seems very glass cannon but the speed is amazing

Shu Yun, the Silent Tempest - This is something I have never played against and the ability to give multiple creatures double strike sounds amazing, however the spells:creature ratio is something that will need testing

Would love any input as I have never built a Voltron deck. Other commander suggestions are welcomed (need to include UW)

Shu yun, is unique in the fact that it lets you use sunforger to cast voltron piece search spells.

  • posted a message on Why is mtg mainly male orientated?
    Quote from Paige712 »
Hi guys I've always wondered why it seems Mtg is a mainly male dominant game and that there aren't more girls involved? I and one other girl are the only women at my local Game store and though we are treated just like another part of the group it does sadden me we women are so scarce when Mtg is such a fun and enjoyable game and hobby. Granted a lot of girls I know aren't near as nerdy as I haha but still it would be nice to get more involved to even out the playing field abit more.

What are your experiences guys? Do you wish more women would get into mtg? What do you think could be done to help draw more in?

I don't think the game itself is male orientated at all. There's no specific advantage to being a male and playing. I think women may be intimidated by the number of male players and not wish to join that group. I personally think that it would be great if more women played. The biggest issue is that like video games there's a social taboo that needs to be overcome. Professional poker leagues had the same issue with women getting into the game.

March 13th is the next available day that Wizards is able to make any ban decisions.

Is there any possibility that Standard could receive MORE bans?

Personally, while I don't think it's incredibly likely, I think a Felidar Guardian ban is possible. The deck isn't incredibly oppressive in the sense that it's winning tournaments, however, it's oppressive in that its restricting Tier 2 decks from successfully emerging, unless they have built in Anti-Saheeli. Also, they didn't anticipate the loop, so I feel like them banning it because it's a toxic strategy they didn't foresee isn't impossible.

    Thoughts? Think we'll see anything?

Saheeli rai deck hasn't posted enough top 8s to matter. Just because its your FNMs boogie man dosent mean its even being looked at by wizards. The only way anything gets banned from FNM play is if they start monitoring LGS decklists. Which will never happen.

It has a 22% metagame share, seconded only by Vehicles. If that's not putting up "enough" top 8s, I don't know what is.

22% of the meta means nothing when it is the bottom 22%

Anyone who doesn't think blue is the strongest color. Should realize that no other color gets to just deny all strategies by saying no.You can't have all the cantrips and counters. While also having the best creatures. This is what we call balance. Blue dominates all color depth charts in modern , legacy and vintage. Complaining you can't draw 3 for one mana. You might as well play legacy. The decks are close in price to play mono blue.

What? Blue does not have anywhere close to the best creatures in modern, in fact there is only 1 blue creature in the top 10 played creatures in modern, and only 3 non-merfolk blue creatures in the top 50 in modern. Blue does not have good counterspells in modern so they do not just get to "say no" in this format, and the counterspells we have cannot just invalidate every strategy since uncounterability and on-cast triggers are heavily prevelant in the format, in addition to threats that are cheaper than the counter magic meaning they come down before you ever had a chance to counter them. Blue has actual 1 playable cantrip in the format, serum visions, which nonbos with your own manabase and is certifiably terrible. None of the top 5 most played decks in the format are blue decks, and the only 2 in the top 10 that use blue mana are bant eldrazi and merfolk, so saying blue dominates color depth in the format is blatantly false. I haven't seen a single person complain about not being able to draw 3 for one mana, especially since Ancestral Vision is legal in the format, so this statement is false in two ways. Your entire post screams that you do not have much knowledge of this format, i highly suggest doing some research before making claims such as this

reread what I typed. Thats why you can't have both. If it had the best creatures and counters. The need to play other colors would not exist. Thanks for the useless rant though.

Buying boxes to get singles is never a wise investment. Even if it is to have fun. Buying the singles saves you money in both short and long term. I don't know why any person in their right mind. Would buy a box if they aren't going to just wait and not sell it for 4 or 5 years. Only people who do not enjoy they game buy and store boxes.
This set makes me particularly happy that it hurts the investors who hoard modern cards. Because as a player who has seen this before. Reprints lowering prices allows me to afford more cards. Play more magic and have more fun. Msrp on normal boxes are always 30 ish percent over what they retail for. Thats why the msrp is set to 250 for modern masters. It should sell for less than 200 per box. Players should expect that price as well.

I don't play modern and this makes me laugh. All the people hoarding copies. All the "investors" are getting rofl stomped this set its very funny to watch them squirm. The print run being through the roof , making modern affordable. Might actually let me make a deck.

Blue doesn't need help. It is still the strongest color in modern. No unbannings are needed. Modern is supposed to be diverse enough that most deck concepts can compete. Accept storm ,Wizards hates combo.
