Hey, thanks so much for the write up! Love the build and have been tinkering with Yuriko ever since she was spoiled. A few comments on your list. I think you are on the right track with the 1 of Tetsuo. It acts as a nice flex slot while also help getting in that unlockable damage from Yuriko and snapcaster. Another card you might want to consider that the standstill version was playing is Cloud of Faeries as it both turns on spellstutter sprite and is a flier herself. Maybe even add in the 1 of Umezawa's Jitte as playing cloud of faeries into Jitte on turn 2 is quite gross. Cards I'm unsure of snapcaster, bitterblossom, and ponder.

I think you definitely want 4 mutavault as well as maybe going up to 3 or even 4 ninja of the deep hour since drawing a card and getting a trigger for Yuriko is nice. Also, have you tried the build with Standstill yet? I think it could be really powerful but it might be too slow.

Other than that, I think the list looks really cool and I look forward to hearing about it and trying it out for myself. Thanks!

Do we think Search for Azcanta will be more useful as a 3 or 4 of in control decks as an engine, or more of a 1 or 2 of that grants incidental ramp and card selection?

Hey guys, ever since I've started playing modern I've been intrigued by BG/x midrange builds, more specifically Abzan midrange. I decided to give the deck a try on my online playtester. As a UB faeries player for almost my entire time in modern, I really enjoyed the playstyle of Abzan since it gave me options and some of the same control elements that I had when on faeries. I was quite overwhelmed seeing all the different kind of builds abzan had to offer so I decided to go the no heirarch bob route. Here is the list I've been playing around with. I haven't bought all the pieces yet as I would appreciate some critique before diving head first into Abzan midrange.

A few comments about the list. I really love Grim Flayer as a card a ton so I felt I wanted to dedicate a couple slots to play it more for value rather than as a beater. Is this incorrect to only play 2 or should I play 4 and go the traverse route or cut them entirely. In addition, I found Tireless Tracker to be a great non-GY reliant threat and I've seen a few other lists play it as a one of too. Anyway, I would love to hear your guys' thoughts on the list. Thanks!

I've been playing her as a 2 of for a while in my testing and she's been great sometimes winning the game on her own. I'm not exaggerating when you go turn 2 bitterblossom into t3 Liliana is pretty much gg. Aside from that she's a decent topdeck and also feeds snapcaster. There are certain times where I have a cryptic or mistbind in hand and I have to discard them but honestly I'd rather have an impending ultimate that could win the game than hold up a spellstutter. You have to know when to switch to a jund style gameplan from a control gameplan. I run 3 iok 3 TS for the record.

I'm a big fan of the 3rd place list with the lilianas. Also of note, it seems mistbind is putting up a lot more finishes and lists are playing more Faeries and less snaps.

Also what do we think of pull from tomorrow? As a 1 or 2 of to have our own little Sphinx's rev to help close out games or dig for answers. Discarding can help feed snap and delve

What do we think of As Foretold? It seems really abusable l in our deck with all the instant speed interaction and getting it to 2 counters basically puts our opponent in a hard lock while we get to cast free counters and or removal spells each turn. Not to mention casting AV the turn it comes down. you could also play discard and push after ticking it up to 1 counter.

Thinking of trying this deck out next Sunday. Been following it for a while but never played on paper only tested online. Need some critique for my list. I want to run a 4th collonade but I only own 3. Still undecided about serum visions. What do you think?

So UB Faeries placed 2nd at yesterday's SCG classic.

    Here is the list: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/ub-fae-by-david-daniel/

SCG messed up the deck name and list but it was piloted by David Daniel and is running 4 smuggler's copter. Neat!

As much as I would love to see JTMS or SFM unbanned why would wizards unbanned anything?

Sure blue is some what weak but is it worth the risk for wizards To give up a Jace or Preordain?

    What would wizards gain?

    1. Does unban Jace, SFM, BBE, or Preordain sell more Standard products?
    2. Does unban Jace, SFM, BBE, or Preordain sell more Modern Master 2017 packs?
    3. Does unban Jace, SFM, BBE, or Preordain bring any direct cash to WOTC?

    All the answers: NO.
Therefore, I do not expect these cards will be unbanned in a week, especially WOTC recently tries to de-emphasize Modern format.

100% right this is a game for us. But for them is money.

There is no gain inew a unbanned

By that logic, nothing should ever be unbanned because it doesn't effect their sales. Why does WotC keep track of the modern format at all then? That argument makes 0 sense to me.

    Daut,

Congrats on the finish! Just a few card choice questions. How is being only 2 fatal push. I'm on 4 push myself and think it's great. Also, wondering if you were considering Liliana of the Veil as a mainboard option that you could side out in favor of Liliana, the Last hope. How did Ancestral Vision hold up as a 3 of in the main? Would you have rather it been Serum visions? Again, great finish and report! Excited to hear about future tournament finishes with faeries!

The way I see it is there are 3 point of views on the Jace unban.

    1. Jace is too powerful for modern and should never be unbanned because he takes control of the game like no other card does.
While he is a very powerful card no doubt, most aggro decks or even midrange decks can usually just ignore him and try and kill u faster or get rid of jace the turn after he comes down especially if you are tapping out to play him.
    2. Jace doesn't do anything to help blue's issues vs fast linear decks and would not help modern or blue in any positive ways. Preordain is the better unban.
I would argue that preordain would not help control decks as much as it would linear combo decks and just let them win faster. Jace, despite him not coming down until turn 4, allows control decks to stabilize and create card advantage while also pulling you out of tight spots with his -1.
    3. Jace could potentially be beneficial to control decks and blue in modern and Wizards should honestly give him a chance in the meta.

I didn't think wizards would do it, but they did it. Should we up fetch count? Play quickling? The possibilities are endless!

I would rather you play an extra gideon jura and cut ally of zendikar. I don't really see why ally gideon belongs here? Other than that, the list looks list really solid! I am trying out a pair of cryptics as well. Also maybe add a 4th serum visions.

There are times you're gonna play it just because its a board wipe or just because it's a 4 mana draw 3 and it will be pretty lackluster but maybe 50-60% of the time you will get insane value and that can turn the tides of a game. This card also incentivizes us to play lilianas and swords in addition to AV to get maximum value.

  • posted a message on Why do Spirits succeed and Faeries fail?
Agreed with what was said above. One thing is that faeries plays more like a control deck which tends to not perform particularly well against aggro decks. Control elements such as counters, removal, and heavy discard are played in fae which makes them more grindy then the tempo-style strategies spirits utilizes. In addition, faeries has bitterblossom along with supportive flash creatures that disrupt the opponent while spirits relies on CoCo and rattlechains to give other creatures flash. Spirits has a plethora of 1 and 2 drops along with a fairly decent lord while faeries relies on a few quality higher curve creatures.
