Glad to see you were seeing the same need for Fiery Cannonade as well, I made the swap with Shavian Fire as a direct replacement. Also dropped a Stomping Ground in the main for the Carnage Tyrant, has played pretty well in control match-ups as a "gotcha" in game one. The only time I board in Disdainful Stroke is against Jeskai control (still seeing some on Arena), and it's a game winner on its own against a settle or Angel of Grace. I'm torn on Ral at this point, as I haven't had occasion to utilize him in any matches so far. Holding it's own in best of 3 matches pretty solidly so far with a 6-2 and a 7-1, currently running through at a 5-1 with a couple of games to play, will get those wrapped up this evening.
Based on the current meta state at least on Arena, maybe a few Fiery Cannonade in the board as aggro is super prevalent thus far. I find anything that generates a lot of tokens is a little harder to handle, got absolutely destroyed by a Saproling deck earlier.
I could definitely see that, though cutting a land for a six-drop seems a bit dubious. Maybe it's fine since you aren't likely to see the Tyrant until you're good and ready to cast it.
I could certainly see it being a dead draw in some situations, anything where you're able to tempo on curve I could see it being dead. However I think there's enough draw and churn in the deck to mitigate some of those instances. I've had great success against the drake decks, Dimir discard, RDW, etc. so far. Now obviously the amount of decks depending on how you're playing arena (best of 1 or best of 3) varies greatly, and even varies greatly from paper or MTGO. So far though as a best of 1 deck it's brought me through a single 7-0, and a single 7-1, so not bad in that department I would say at all.
Maybe going down 1 Breeding Pool or Stomping Ground and pull in a Carnage Tyrant or Niv-Mizzet, Parun as a heavy hitter or card draw/pinger. I think I'm leaning toward Carnage Tyrant just due to the hexproof factor, as the main deck has a pretty solid card draw and damage engine as it is. May shore up those games where you're behind on board and facing an opposing Tyrant or similar across the table.
So I've been doing some testing with your list on Arena, pretty dang strong. I really haven't done enough matches to say one way or the other what should and shouldn't be in the deck, just that it's been strong against what I've seen. I should have some more info for you later on this evening when I get done with some more testing on it.
Edit: I will say, and this may just be the Arena RNG, but it feels a little land heavy at times.
@D90Dennis14 Say what you will about Chance for Glory, but it has won me a few games in testing so far. Pretty much everything you've mentioned as a problem has really stood out, I've pulled out wins with an end of turn March. Trostani has allowed me to get back creatures from that one UB spell that steals creatures, and Justice Strike is always a strong performer. It really ends up just being a go wide until you can stick angels and pull ahead. Then again this is on Arena where I'm playing best of 1, so obviously a best of 3 is going to be a lot different.
I believe I will be adding in Detection Tower to the build as well. I've removed all of the copies of Dead Weight, it helps in some match-ups, but I believe Plaguecrafter is going to shine a good bit more.
If I run into something that can handle the lone Carnage Tyrant I go full mill mode by looping Gaea's Blessings pulling back in the second copy of blessing and anything that surveil's as a means of refilling the deck. So even if the Carnage Tyrant is exiled I can go full on Assassin's Trophy mode and start in on land destruction while recurring my deck from time to time. I am adjusting today and adding 2x Plaguecrafter to the list as a hedge against any Tyrant or Mare that does stick to the board.
@Simto Running the first list in the OP, no changes so far. Running through a league with Jeskai right now, but will make some mods to the Sultai list and run through a couple tomorrow.
I would agree with Plaugecrafter as at least a 2 of, as for Assassins Trophy it's working out well. I sometimes use it as recurring land destruction when I no longer have targets and can get into a Gaea's Blessing loop. Really the only thing that I am missing is Plaugecrafter or similar to remove those uncounterable threats. So I'm going to add those in and tweak and see what happens. Not sure who else plays Arena but I've gotten several 7-0 and 7-1 out of this deck with no modification at all, which is pretty good considering I'm seeing some really strange stuff pop up in the meta on there.
@Simto Been playing on Arena for the last few days, have run into green a ton. I've only had one instance where a Carnage Tyrant was an issue, although I've run into both Ferox and Vine Mares, but generally have the discard or counter magic handy. Really the only out for Carnage Tyrant is one of your own or Thought Erasure, will be fine tuning the list as I go on. I'm not quite sold on Dead Weight yet, aside from a bolt the bird response...
I can say so far in the limited Arena testing I've done with it, it's working out wonderfully. Now to be fair everyone had their account wiped aside from purchased gems and I had quite a few of those hanging around, so it's not quite a level playing field yet.
I'm absolutely loving the quick constructed aspect myself, while yes there are quite a few regular standard decks being played, there are also a subset of decks that work really well in the 1 off formart. They can take some interesting risks because there's no worry about a sideboard coming into play at any point. So you see some decks that would never been good in a best of 3 constructed, come out way ahead on a best of 1 constructed format. I hope they keep that around, it's probably the most enjoyable aspect of Arena for me.
I could certainly see it being a dead draw in some situations, anything where you're able to tempo on curve I could see it being dead.
