green has weak removal and evasion which is mandatory in limited. so a 3rd color choice wouldn't be a bad idea if running green. i played gladeheart cavalry on almost 6 creatures and still lost the game. because the board was stablized with evasion and removal on the opponent's board.
white is determined by channelfireball to be the 2nd weakest color and the weakest color by everyone in the store i was playing with. i played with white/green and was stomped friday night. i had a good deck too. the problem is if a second player is playing white in the pod (which is mostly guaranteed) you wont see isolation zone and shear drop wheel. make a stand, searing light, and roils retribution do roll in my minor experience with ogw. searing light is so meh in my experience its not even funny. they have to attack or block on top of being 2 power or less. in 3 color decks white might be more viable especially with good white multicolored creatures like red/white allies or black/white vampires.
i realized that the two pods i was playing around friday night had both pods competing for first place with 3 color decks. is this a coincidence and far too early in draft to determine? or is 3 colors key? i noticed in bfz mono red landfall could beat late game decks. but this isn't an archetype anymore. could perhaps late game decks this format around encourage 3 color decks? picking up bomb uncommons by the second and third pack that are multicolored and being unplayed by 2 color decks?
i know it might be too early to determine but opinions would be appreciated thanks.
at its core its a common cube. a draft didn't fire off that night so me and a friend started collecting old school cards with drawbacks for a cube for fun. very unplayable cards haha. but fun archetype.
i could evolve the deck with newer cards and higher rarities perhaps in the future.
i think thats the link to my cube. twice as many blue cards than other colors plus not as much white creatures. thanks for the advice! i also remembered urza sets had echo.
i made a cube tonight with nothing but cards from arabian nights to weatherlight with drawbacks. for example, cumulative upkeeps, pay life, phasing, or return creatures or lands to your hand when played. very fun. anyone recommend any sets that are newer than weatherlight with lot of commons with drawbacks? thanks.
i was waiting for a draft to begin at my local gamestore and while we waited someone pulled out a number of cards and suggested a winston draft with three players total. it was the most fun iv had in a long time. the archetype was cards that all had disadvantages. for example mogg flunkies cannot attack or block unless another creature does or city of brass pings you for 1. i cant recall most of the cards names but most of the draft consisted me of pulling cards with cumulative upkeeps so i probably could not of pulled it off without all the mana haha.
but it was fun. anybody else ever try a drawback cube? i would like to create one some day. i made a deck from my collection of draft cards all rare and uncommon decks so far and ill give it a try. but most of these cards dont have drawbacks so ill have to get a new collection of trades haha.
and thats what makes the drawback winston draft so great. the cards will pile up in hopes of getting that one decent card and then you might just want to grab a whole pile!
