re the type changing ability, why do Blood Moon and Magus of the Moon override UToY? what if I play UTOY after blood moon is already in play, anything different due to ordering?

landfall just got a shot in the arm, making it semi viable in standard, but this is looking to cater to edh and limited, maybe see a little modern too?
this won't save allies without more. maybe elves will get more support in OGW?

hmm don't think you can. the wrappers aren't like, say a cereal bag, how they open. you tear down from the top and that 2 sides of the split will always show.
might be possible to use a hot iron, but I think that won't work since the wrapper is a thick Mylar, not a regular melt-able plastic.
packs are purposely made so they can't be searched and also returned

it's not even the casting cost increases and weaker cards that's narrowing the viable standard card pool. wizards has taken away almost all the answer cards some call feelbad cards or hate cards (control). countermagic, removal, and even burn, etc. what's left?
I'm not seeing but one artifact in a typical game, not counting Hangarback. Maybe 2 enchantments get played. Manlands are cool, but its still just another creature. There's a severe reduction in the variety of tactics available in standard.
Another thing about Extended. I always thought that was an attractive format I wanted to get into. a little bit older card base from some favorite recent sets along with nice new releases. It would be fresh, rotating along with new blocks. just a larger pool to build from.
Wizards wants to distance itself from it's past, fine. But the mechanics and strategies that attracted players to mtg in the first place are no more. Trading creatures until either player fails to draw a blocker isn't skill in building or play. Playing skill, knowing when to hold or use your counter, tap for that ability, or hold a land to discard, bluff or whatever, timing your drops to get around control strategy. that was what we lived for. Now, doesn't matter what's in your hand. your deck contains Gideon, hangarback, mantis, rhino, Jace and others. good cards, but mindless to play them. we lost discard, reanimate, permission, weenie, creatureless, so many fun strategies. to play with and against.

anyone have fun going up against burn with white weenie? any combo deck against black discard? smh. I'm a modern/legacy player at heart without the collection yet to play these formats. And wizards doesn't care there are many like me now, disappointed with standard how it's become, and WOULD spend money on reprints of older, popular cards and sets. Bring back a bigger rotating format, or give us the cards we need.

What do you think about an extended-like format?

hahaha Yes! we luv Dredge. but you're right, too much hype about this small change and then we'll probably forget about it after OGW gets released, since recently, wizards isn't going all in to make a big show with new mechanics. just a very few cards and not close to the potential they could have. i.e. devoid, ingest and the processors...

very sure that wastes will have oracle wording T: add <> to your mana pool. what better way to introduce a new basic land than a full art version? ha,, the only basic with OGW set symbol is very special! even if they see only fringe play, foil wastes would be extra cool

I think the interest in a better set than BFZ will see the same thing; shortage of fat packs since many missed the chance to get them from retailers and still want the lands and get the new Wastes. 90-land packs in this set? (15 each basic)

if the <> are any big endeavor, I'd think to make room for enough representation, just 2 cards from each color would be 10 freed up of the 184 coming. the artifacts that would be normally represented can be fewer also. so there's enough room to have good representation for <>. this is a small set too, which makes you wonder why not would they been introduced in a larger set?
it does weigh in favor of this being OGW only. not so much resources committed to <> cards as would be to push an ongoing new element.
I think a lot of us will be eating storm crow in a few days!

  • posted a message on Waste Mana - strictly colorless? Painlands become relevant.
there is a theory that it's a hybrid of both prevailing theories; <> may be pure colorless, but what if it's not Just that, but a particular shape of colorless mana? it looks like a diamond symbol and could pave the way for additional symbols of some different mana. colorless yes but has a certain quality. this would not effect existing cards. somewhat like snow mana, but it exists in your pool, can pay a generic cost, but only OGW forward cards use and provide it.
not a 7th type, but the 6th type, colorless, gets subdivided as more of these are added. wishful thinking that it's not OGW only.
Painlands, Sol Ring, etc. no changes. but basic fetches get a boost being uber useful depending on if the cards that need <> will be staples in any format.
maybe we're getting our colorless land, but possibly going forward, we're getting several colorless lands. push a little further, 3 of them. symbols diamond, star, crescent moon.
is Wastes the beginning of a whole sector of new ideas in colorless?
not immediately beneficial to colorless commanders, but they could pump out a few really good legends and cards in the "new" colorless going forward.

should be rumor or newcard, true but that other thread is more about the mana requirement and wastes. this is a unique thread, tho it's in a wrong spot.

I think if you were playing 2 Uli's you'd swap in one Kozi. Uli has 2 wincons, plan A and plan B. if damage won't finish the game in 2 hits, plan B almost definitely will!
Kozilek can stick around longer with his counters, or just fuel more advantage.
as a huge beatstick, i like Newlamog more. his effects are a given. Kozilek will at times not be able do much except be a club

good catch. yes this seems to favor OGW only thing being its common and not rarity L. could be something they overlooked but I don't think so. I do think it's a first exploratory step into a clarified design space, if <> = 1. if not. say <> = 1 voidmana, potato or diamond whatever. then you have a new strange design space.

wizards is very capable of recurring the lame snowland. I wouldn't put it past them to "waste" and fumble a good chance to expand the game design in an interesting way
