May 28, 2019affidian posted a message on The End of an EraWoah, been here since '07 myself and this is out of nowhere! I certainly hope we can continue in some form... I have come to rely on this site as my main MTG website. Also I am still curious about why? Magic was still doing pretty well by all measures. Suggesting they could not justify the expense implies that the site itself was not doing well despite the popularity of the game writ large. That is something considering this website is one of the bigger sites for non-retailer related magic content.Posted in: Articles

Haha, taking it a little hard are we?
I learned the same lessons when I played a pro once at the winter kings a few years back. This is exactly why my advise to all my friends is to A)always have your Judge yell at the ready, B) to take as much time as you need to inspect the results of your play. Don't let your opponent dictate the tempo of your game. Lastly, don't let some guy who has more time/money to play a collectable card game beat you simply because he has a name.
I for one prefer my Vizzerdrix Highlander Rainbow Pauper formats. It's the way the game was meant to be played.
This...
The problem is Wort and Krenko are completely different cards. Wort is a more controlling mid-range type card that is better suited for multi-player, and Krenko is crazy aggro. My friend already has a fully operational Krenko deck and it killed me by turn 6 quite often in 1 vs 1 EDH (not my bread and butter). The deck is silly good, and fully utilizes goblin sac outlets such as Goblin Chirurgeon and Skirk Prospector, infinite combo with thornbite staff, and mass damage enabler with cards likeGoblin Bombardment/Boggart Shenanigans. Sure you can recur in black, but if your opponent is dead then who needs recursion. I for one am building a Krenko deck.
As per the zombie hosing angel... I gotta say that I called that one a good month ago or so. I was at my shop and some guy had just finished his Grimgrin EDH deck and I asked him why he did that when it was perfectly obvious that wizards was going to print a "Zombies lose card in AVR". Haha, aww Wizards I know thee well.
LOL, and what is with the people who apparently hard cast Decree of Justice for the Angels. I only though you did that in Tron?!?! Come to think of it, I don't think I have ever not cycled Decree of Justice...
I am right there with you, but I must say that what I am really waiting for is a 5 color angel legend. Of all the tribes in magic that *should have a five color legend you would think Angels would be a sure thing. There is already an angel that has all colors, and I am not sure why wizards hasn't given us one...
As per this lord of sorts, I like her. Just another angel in wait for that 5 color EDH deck.
To be honest I think your fears are overstated...at least for EDH. In EDH it is actually quite balanced since it removes itself from the game once it has been played. Personally, I would much rather run Time warp or Time Stretch (the latter which is almost too good in this format.) It would be much more broken, if like these cards, it could be regrown or Snapcastered back again. Not saying its a bad card but in EDH it is merely another time walk effect for decks like Jhoira.
I like the demon, but the cost is very inhibitive. People are going to have to accel into him if they want him as their general.
My favorite card so far (by far) is Sigarda, Host of Herons. She is a beastly general. IMO. And my Malfegor deck pretty much hates her for life.
Strictly speaking, I realize Consecrated Sphinx is sub-optimal in Bant-Blink decks, but he is some kind of crazy when it comes to his presence on the table. While I would be lying to say that he has never bitten me in the behind before, it would also be lying to say that he is not just the sexiest piece of card advantage producing cardboard I have ever witnessed (and hopefully for the health of the format and the game will ever witness). He is a card that if he sticks on the board then you probably just won the game regardless of how many other players there were. I do not think there are many non-general cards I can say that about off the top of my head with possibly the exception of select Eldrazi, Blightsteel Colossus, Prime-time, and perhaps to a lesser extent Sun Titan. He is that good...and probably should only be taken out as a matter of last resort. Hope this helps!:)
While I understand the hate for Nissa (she seems to be the least favorite walker printed so far.) I think it is a little off topic to start bashing other people's opinions, and also counterproductive.
I think that Nissa *could* show up on this plane, and it would be nice to see a more useful side of her (in terms of actually being able to use her abilities in any deck). There is no real reason (aside from just hating the character) to believe otherwise. A planeswalker that can only use magic when elves are around is a pretty useless planeswalker. Furthermore, to suggest the cards themselves represent every ability a planeswalker has is wrong.
I personally have a gut feeling either Gideon 2.0 or Ajani 3.0 is coming with a healthy dose of Green added into either of their mana symbols.
@Barinellos: Sure green is not the font of mechanics, but that is why you add another color!! I for one am sick of Garruk and maybe Sarkhan 1.0 being the only real contributors for Green. I mean, look at white... Ajani, Elspeth, and Gideon?!
Except that he only became a Planeswalker because it was Urza's spark. So unless there is another spark donation it seems unlikely.
I personally am a bit biased as I need her to be an Angel Legend at least and maybe/hopefully a 5 color one at that so I can finally have a 5 color Commander. So I hope she is not a Planeswalker.
I hear you... Now all Wizards has to do is print an 'angels matter' set for AVR and my life will be complete.
Ha, interesting... Well, I suppose that is enough for me to confirm this is a real rumor here and I'm not just supposed to take someones word for it.
Thanks for that bit.
Granted I have only scanned this thread, but I have not seen any mention of this.... I only saw on the opening page that there would be a completely new walker. If you could point this out in this thread it would be great of you.
As for the concept of a completely new character. You are forgetting the fact that this card was already probably 'designed' in some form or the other last summer or fall. So there is a very real possibility that we have already seen the card. If it is not the artist who designed Kiora then it can only be Mr. Fayden or Ral.
Thanks for correcting me on the Venser thing. I was not aware that he specified that it was an already existing planeswalker. Although I doubt that this will be answered in AVR. I personally think it will either be Nissa or Gideon, perhaps maybe even Ajani, who will be the already seen walker for the third set. Garruk would be interesting, but awkward since there would be 3 versions of him floating around in Standard for quite a while before rotations. I prefer to think a white walker since AVR seems to a very Angelic (White) sounding set.
As for your argument about Kiora... I would have to say that this make little sense to me. While it is true that anybody who played the video game, or saw the spoilers about the game may know of her existence that is a far cry from actually having a planeswalker card. Because she does not have an actual card she therefore is technically 'new'. Sorry if you were hoping for a new character...
