I'd just play (2) Dreadbore. You're casting your spells sorcery speed anyways. There's almost no downside with a huge upside.
Also, I love Kambal. He helps the burn match up and the storm match up. Both of which I think are particularly poor for this deck. I am on 2 copies in my board now because of that. Just my opinion though. I've all but given up on a lot of the bad match ups and have primarily started focusing on making the rest of my games better against decks that we aren't as bad against. Tron is always going to be a problem and there's not a whole lot you can do about it except try to be lucky so I have no dedicated tron SB hate (BM in this case). I still have fulminators and molten rains but that's because they are also good against control. I still run GY hate because, well graveyard decks are always going to be around.
Burn and storm are bad matchups game one but get so much better post board. Kambal is an all-star against them.
I agree about Jura. I was playing him in a UW midrange deck with a lot more creatures and some main deck Settle the Wreckage. The interaction was sweet but the real all-star was Gideon. Dude is almost impossible to kill and has immediate positive impact for you when he comes down.
Jace decks for the most part should be easier if you get out in front of them. If you can control pace of the game instead of letting them do it, you should be fine. Most of these decks don't play good card advantage singletons like Ancestral Vision. You should be able to stay out in front by producing pressure and maintaining board control as long as you can make them live off the top. Just don't over extend into their sweepers. Cards like Hazoret can be good against Jeskai but usually pretty poor against UW (relatively speakeing).
BBE decks should be pretty decent for you. Just remember that you're trying to trade as many resources as you can while still coming out on top when you're in top deck mode. Make them answer your threats while you get to strip cards from their hand. The front half of Lingering Souls is good in the match up but the back end is where they really shine. If you're able to cast both sides of it, you should be in a good spot. Just watch out for their Scavenging Oozes. That's what does most of the damage to you in this match up (damage meaning game pace not physical damage). You should be able to provide enough blockers for the big threats like Goyfs and Elves.
As for Liliana, IF you're expecting a lot of control, you could/should probably run 2 copies in the 75. I prefer 2 SB but recently I've been favoring 1 main 1 SB as I have been seeing a lot of control decks as well.
Lastly, I don't know if this is just my meta or not but recently I've been seeing an uptick on Spreading Seas. I would keep an eye out for that. Don't fetch your white source too early if you don't need to.
I think FlyingDelver will be able to correct me if I'm wrong on a lot of this as most of this is just my opinion based on recent meta that I've seen.
The Sideboard probably still needs some work but this is probably fine for now. I think Unclaimed Territory smooths out the mana for the deck a little bit.
Eternal Scourge also allows me to more consistently cast my spells on turn 2 and with the addition of Relic of Progenitus, I can sometimes hose other decks along with recurring Scourge in the late game.
I'm still liking Reality Shift against a lot of decks. Being able to get rid of a problematic creature has been pretty helpful.
If you're playing madness cards, I'd suggest Bloodhall Priest over Voldaren Pariah. It's easier on the mana and does almost the same thing. I also wouldn't recommend playing Madness cards but if it's the path you want to go down, that's where I'd start.
Well here is the list I am going to be trying this week. I have zero games in with it right now but it is an updated iteration of one of my old decks. The old version was pretty good against Jund so I am hoping this new version translates as well.
I want to fit in 1 more Plains and one more Field of Ruin into the deck somehow. Not sure how I am going to do it. The sideboard right now is sort of just a mess with an educated guess for what I will need. I'll probably cut one of the Ceremonious Rejections and possibly some of or all of the Geists for something more relevant. Maybe another Settle the Wreckage and 2 other cards. Not sure yet. I will have some testing to do.
Any ways, I know that this technically isn't a control deck and its more of a midrange strategy but I felt like this was the best place to post it. This is one of old favorite decks back in the twin days. I hope it translates well enough over to the new meta. the biggest problem I see moving forward with it is Kolaghan's Command being very god against the Blade Splicers but Splicer is so much better against a lot of the other aggro decks than Kitchen Finks is. Either way, I will keep the list updated once I get more information on how well it works if it works at all.
I only bring in Surgical in vs combo, Tron (so you can pick their lands after you've blown one up), and dedicated graveyard strategies (Dredge & Hollow one just to slow down their clock so we can stabilize). If you're boarding it in in other match ups, you're probably doing it wrong.
Yea this is all just a pile of fun cards that I wanted to throw back together in a deck and just run with it. Normally I wouldn't run bobs with rhinos or rhinos with bobs but I can't help myself. I want to smash these cards together and call it a deck. I'm excited to have the games where I could lose to bob flipping a rhino. I just want something everyone at the table can have a good laugh about.
I know I'm going to catch a lot of grief on this but this is the deck that I want to run this weekend. I know all the things people are going to say but I just can't help myself. This is what I want to do so I'm going to do it.
And yes I know I'm running 3x Rhinos and I should be running 2 or none (especially with Bobs).
I know Doran doesn't look great here and probably shouldn't be played.
The one path seems out of place.
there's only 2 Thoughtseize.... blah blah blah.
I get it. I am aware of all the things wrong here. I just want to do all this stuff again. It all just looks too fun and I'm super greedy. I don't mind giving up wins at an FNM just to cast my Rhinos again
I think BM is great against Jeskai. I have won so many games off the back of Moon because I was able to just get a little further ahead on board and outrace them under Cryptic Commands. That said, I still think BM is the worst card in the deck and I have also removed it completely from my version of the deck.
