You seem to be the exception. Every new player I've taught was under the impression that CMC implied some sort of cost, because it had cost at the end. We more experienced Magic players know it's "converted" then "mana cost" and is therefore a number, while the newer players see three words taking about costs again.Quote from ReapThaWhirlwind »Quote from Obazervazi »Quote from ReapThaWhirlwind »More attention deficit changes. *sigh*
Why not have just abbreviated 'converted mana cost' as CMC?
Why the need for an entirely new term—why not just 'mana cost' (target card with a mana cost 2 or less)?
When a development team even suggests making gross, unnecessary changes like this to cater to them being worn down—it's time for them to go.
Or at least it's time for them to find a new job to handle at the company.
Converted Mana Cost had the dubious honor of being longer and less intuitive than its replacement. Imagine you've never played Magic before and you see the phrase. You know what a mana cost is, but what are you converting it to? Do you have to pay the mana cost again? Mana Value is much easier to guess what it is. After all, we're all seeing it for the first time and we got it instantly. Not a single person in the thread was confused. Are you really confident that the same would happen if we went from Mana Value to Converted Mana Cost?
If I recall, when I was new to the game, seeing the term 'converted mana cost' was pretty coherent that it was referencing something specific about a mana cost total.
Using this experience as a reference, if I had just seen the term 'mana cost x', I think that would have been pretty self-evident too.
Changing the term entirely was totally unnecessary and in very bad taste.

Foils are meaningless. Showcase are basically meaningless, extended frame is meaningless, even boxtopper foil style or alternate alt is basically meaningless because collector packs. Too many things being special is actually nothing being special. Sad really.
Some people value things because they like them rather than because other people don't have them. -

i'm reminded of innistrad where everyone was oh so insistent that the set was banking off twilight's popularity as if werewolves and vampires hadn't existed prior to that trash.
The thing with the Twilight focus, in my mind, wasn't so much about there being vampires & werewolves, but how just before that both of those things got super popular years prior between Underworld, Van Helsing, Twilight, & others and even more so than that was the whole vampires vs. werewolves, which I've never understood. They are not mongooses and snakes kind of rivalry, they are just mystical creatures that just so happen to hunt the same food. I find that "rivalry" the most boring part of Innistrad.
As for Harry Potter coming through in this set it's not a surprise, while there have been many fantasy schools throughout literature and media WotC definitely will target the more famous parts of memorable "fantasy school" and it will feel like Harry Potter as that is really the most popular franchise one would think in this environment. There is no way for WotC to avoid that. -

I'm just going to say this, no one is buying a product because they have support of something on said product. They don't. When it comes to your example people will buy Coke for a sugary beverage that they enjoy not because they throw some symbol on it to placate a certain section of the populace. -

Looking forward to a Magic world in which race and gender is not going to be a sales argument (as thats what actual equality should be about).
I'm looking forward to a world in which charitable work aimed at repairing centuries of systemic oppression and violence can simply be virtuous, in an uncomplicated way, and without people feeling the need to find reasons to criticize it.
It's hard to comment on the product itself so far. I think Shalai looks awesome but that's not a card I run much. I'm not really into the Ponder. I'll have to wait for the rest of the cards to see if I'll buy it, but I think products like this are great for the game, and I hope we see more. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

Rainbow Warrior - perfectly fine, but i can't help feeling it's a bit lopsided towards White abilities. 4 are White, 2 are Blue, 2 are Black, just 1 is red, and 3 are green. Not a bit deal, really! Just something that struck me.
Burn-Season Charge RG
Sorcery
Target creature you control gains double strike and trample until end of turn. It deals combat damage equal to its toughness instead of their power this turn. Sacrifice that creatures at the beginning of the next end step.
Might need some retemplating? Want to think on the name too - the flavor is a Treefolk setting itself on fire for one last charge, so...
