So... would've indestructible on this be too much? I mean it's EXTREMELY difficult to kill a Tarrasque, which is classically killed by putting it into a Bag of Holding, then putting that Bag of Holding into another Bag of Holding. These are pretty much invulnerable.
For balance and flavor purposes, it could probably have indestructible even without the cast trigger if it shuffled itself into its owner's library if it dies.

And like I said, to push WotC's new keyword darling: Ward.

Ha! I just Battled (a few months ago) about 7 Purple Wurms in the Pathfinder RPG, "Kingmaker," so it's pretty cool to see them on a card.

I like the legendary beholder... sort of giving off the Jabba-vibe. Also has something like a bully feel to it, like when it is out it pushes around opponents and takes their lunch money.

We're going to hit a critical mass of Ajani's Pridemate s one day

The design space is extremely large, like so large they'll run out of ideas when the 22nd century rolls around.

There can be a Pridemate w/ " hexproof, first strike, lifelink, flying (in white), in other creature types, can be on a 3/3 or a 4/4 body, can be a manland, a mana rock, etc... etc... etc... That was at least 8 variations w/ barely any thought put into that. Now take any other popular card type and rinse & repeat.

Betting that w/in the next decade an entire Pridemate Commander can be thrown together, complete w/ a legendary Pridemate. There's already planeswalker support.

almost feels like a french vanilla in today's power creep, leaving me thinking this is kinda meh.

Also, having all of it's protections could've been represented with shroud of hexproof. I think the massive ward is just to push the new, possibly evergreen keyword.

You made a joke and didn't even realize it... The Tarrasque has it's origins in French gothic folklore. Read about it here:

Hmmm, ward is starting to feel like it's going to be an evergreen mechanic. First Kaldheim, then Modern Horizons 2, now here. Interesting...

Absolutely love the art... it's like an optical illusion... optical, get it... But seriously, the art used negative space as an actual optical illusion to fool the brain into thinking there is a beholder-like silhouette.

Great... A creature that inspires singing... Nothing like bringing out the inner-Hamilton singing in the theater nerd 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I feel they (WotC) could've done a lot more (anticipating not a whole lot of outside-the-box ideas here w/ Dungeons), such as have a player place their creatures in play into a dungeon, while having non-Legendary creatures making it through a dungeon unscathed getting +1/+1 counter and become Legendary, while Legendary creatures get two +1/+1 counters and a keyword token (might be a good place to bring back keyword counters).

But as we are at the beginning of preview season, there are many more chances for WotC to surprise me/us. They better, or this set will bomb (really not too impressed so far). Flavor-wise, w/ the classic D&D art and the "module" alternative art look are impressive, but good looks can only take a card so far; personality goes further.

    Here are some new thoughts:

This is an assumption, but the past dictates the future (mostly, will give a recent example why it's "mostly"). When new a new tribe is added in mass, there are usually a few different reasons all at once, such as heavily requested, opens up design space, clues to a not-so-distant future set, keeping things consistent (such as when they announced that if a creature is painted/drawn with wings, it'll have flying, as was the complaints about Blinking Spirit).

So I am betting more than naught that we'll see a return to Mirrodin or a Phyrexian Invasion on another plane w/in the next 2 years.

One case where this reasoning is most likely not the case (which feels more like either a meme, per se, or a goofy 1-off is Scuttletide, as I do not see having any more crab lords will come about (buuuuut, who knows... I may have some deep fried crow in the future; WotC have done Stranger Things...[like make "Contraptions" a real thing years after it was announced as a red herring {that was a joke, I meant to mislabel }]).

    yawn.

still hate this concept, but now with a show no one cares about any more.

And yet season 4 is coming out. For you, I hope they make a Brady Bunch Secret Lair... Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!!!

Now I'm hoping that when we return to Mirrodin (or any other plane that the Phyrexian go to to vacation) we see Phyrexia-themed tribal support/cards, w/ "Whenever a Phyrexian creatures enters the battlefield," "Phyrexian creatures get...," "All Phyrexian creatures you control..." and the like. This push must have something to do w/ the Phyrexian tribe for the near future, or why make this huuuuuge push? It's a lot of effort for just an aesthetic change.

How long does it usually take to update all the MTGO creatures in the Gatherer? I imagine it isn't too long of job to change the code as it's just a cntrl+f search & typing in the updated name... right?

Anyone think it'll be updated in the Gatherer? I sorta feel that would make it more official than MTGO.
