I was under the impression previews started yesterday... That was misleading.

    Never liked these slow rolls...

Maybe a Past in Flames reprint? Where the word that follows "has" is flashback?

As mentioned in the thread for the Magic Showcase 2021

Mark Rosewater said there will be plenty of tribal support and love for new and old tribes! I'm excited! I'm going to lose my mind if there's a chance Slivers return. Just a heads up for that to everyone on here!

So let's start a speculation of tribes we would like to see support for:

    My 2 cents:

    New Tribes -
    Tiefling & Gnome (w/ the Baldur's Gate-themed Commander)
    Aetherborn

    Old Tribes -
    Cat
Cephalid (Gavin Verhey, in one of the Good Morning Magic episodes on YouTube mentioned there'll be more in the future)
    Slivers
    Angels & Demons (it's a given w/ the gangster-themed set)
    Vedalken
    Moonfolk/Samurai/Ninja/Monk/Advisor (Neon Dynasty, most likely)
Phyrexian (maybe... could the Brother's War have Phyrexians, as Antiquities has Gate to Phyrexia among other references to them)

With a Lord of the Rings I am really Really REALLY hoping Gandalf is a planeswalker. I see him being blue/white.

Guessing the Street Fighter themed Secret Lair will be released around Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty (KND?). I would really like to build a Blanka Commander deck! Blanka has got to be red/green... wonder what other colors the rest will be...

Wondering if Unfinity will 1-up previous Un-set lands... Borderless???

Commander Black looks sick as hell.

Brother's War has really piqued my interest. Wondering if it'll be a.... Damn, not too sure what to think? Updated characters from the Brothers War? Or another story that occurred? Will previously killed off characters have new versions? So much, so much...

  • posted a message on Streets of New Capenna - 3 color set... Triomes again?
Since Ikoria, the Triomes have become staples across the board. Ikoria's Triomes are enemy wedge colors. Now w/ Streets of New Capenna (which I am willing to bet will be "SNC"), consists of three-color factions.

I'm calling it - we will get friendly wedge Triome's. I know this is very VERY early for a baseless speculation, but it'll be about a year later, so a year is enough time to wait to complete a cycle.

    Who agrees w/ me?

Not a fan of the old bordered Planeswalkers. Wall of text. I think the old border look could've still been used w/ the current templating of Planeswalkers. The starting loyalty box could still fit w/o breaking the text boxes border.

Guess angel decks have a reason to run The Ozolith...

Ok, really depends: does the angel get the ability "can't lose... Can't win..." or is it part of the divinity counter? Then really makes or breaks the synergy with The Ozolith.

8 targets may be tough, but in Commander that's a game changing move (IF they deck doesn't rely on life gain, by which if you are above 40 life, it's actually a hinderance opposed to a boon).

In a fast green Zoo deck w/ a lot of mana acceleration, this is a beast of a card. It'll find it's way into many decks, as it's not too limiting, as with deck that maxes out on 4 cmc, there's: 1, G, 2, 1G, GG, 2G, 3, 1GG, GGG, 4, 3G, 2GG, 1GGG (this cost is pretty rare though) & GGGG (also pretty rare).

It would be al ittle bit of a work around to mkae sure there's diversity, but then Seasons Past should/would get played.

Mana value doesn't work that way. It is simply a new term for converted mana cost.

I believe "mana value" includes mana weight, ie how much color to how much colorless, in addition to numerical value. I mentioned "cmc" because only going 4 deep has 14 different values this can can tackle to return the life total to the starting life total.

So no one has anything to add? So many are quick to add their 2-cents to a preview card, but I thought provoking inquiry has most scratching their heads? Strange...

Never really thought Dhocking Grasp would be a blue card. I think it's more of a red effect, dealing damage and that's about it. Maybe just a small amount of damage comment nothing big. I would think something that gives a -2/-0 would be more like a dungeons & dragons spell that reduces strength. It would also be a permanent debilitation.

So let's think and speculate about the tribes that are emerging. We've hoped and wished (at least us pen n' paper RPG card flippers) to one day see these creatures find their way into our hearts and decks.

    I. So, as the title begs the question, where will we find the new tribes? Only other D&D crossover sets? In other Magic sets that are in Magic's universe? Or supplemental sets like Modern Horizons or Conspiracy? Or a combination of any of the three.

II. At the time of creating this post, bleary-eyed me can think of these tribes:
    - Halflings
    - Gnolls
    - Beholders
    - Rangers
    - Tieflings (side thought/question: Would this make Tibalt a Tiefling?)

    III. Last thoughts:
    1) What tribes do you think we'll get?
    2) Do you have any tribes wish lists?
    3) Are there any workaround D&D creatures you're bummed didn't get their own tribe, like: half elves, owlbears, illithid, or yuan-ti?

IV. After-thought: What does everyone think of gnomes making the jump from artifact creatures to colored, non-artifact creatures? So far there's one white gnome. Do you want to see more colored gnomes, specifically white or even red (I can see red having tinker gnomes)?

I guess ward also fits into taxation strategies. Hexproof felt very one and done, like it can be found on very weak creatures making them much stronger than they actually are, or on already really strong creatures making them a powerhouse. Ward is scalable and has more design space. Ward could not just be a requirement of a mana cost, but could be damage or loss of life, forced to scaifice, put treasure tokens into play, discard a card, mill, life steel (like lose 1 & gain 1), etc...

As long as design space opens up, the keyword will continuously evolve. Maybe for the better or maybe for the worst, but it will not be stagnant like shroud or hexproof.
