  • posted a message on When the French discuss Magic, oh the humor
So I found a Magic site simular to this, but French.

The French themselves have a beautiful language, but when "Babel Fish" from Yahoo translates what is being discussed in the French forums, the onlything one can do is bust out a laugh.

An example of how Babel does a poor job translating:

Noggle Hedge-Magus: very constraining, but in a UR ultraggro that can do it: in the first turns I stuff with my 2/1 per 1, kelde, unstable change & Co, turn 4 that, I puts 2 and 2 animals cannot block, turn 5 one finishes with the flame Javelin, psionic blast or other shard volleyball + the small additional sauce phase…
But it probably misses a good truth biland to optimize it, because to have 2 mountains and 2 islands out of turn 4, it is not obvious…

Springjack Shepard: it's a pity that it is white… in black or red it would have had its place very found das the maximum-tokens/furystoke play giant…

Edge off the Divinity: unstable change in almost better…

    Wicker-Bough Elder: commune moreover, miam!

Cinder Pyromancer: gelectrode in monocolore, which does not manage the animals but functions with all the red fates: that still will make jeus weak and not competitive in combale with the blast tracking

Now tell me that isn't so befuddled and confusing that you don't at least snicker at it.

Well, tell me, is it also a riot, or am I just being immature? If I am being immature then I know you are, but what am I? Infinite...

Here's that site if you want t o check it out: http://www.magiccorporation.com

So, "hobgoblin" is considered to be "goblin"? That is quite suffering of majestic lameness. Most gamers know that there is a difference between a hobgoblin and a goblin, just like there is a difference between orcs, goblins, and kobolds.

    Found in wikipedia.org -

The name originally referred to a specific folkloric character Robin Goodfellow but has grown to be defined as a different species of goblin or fairy. Key words : Different species.

Why not introduce them as a new race? Hags got to be a race (yes, I know they were technically already a race, being that there were 2 hags in the past {one from Legends and another from The Dark}).

    Slivers Return! OMG

And they have ugly Cyclops faces? Confused

Not a sliver, but a mythical folklore beast another had mentioned that has only one arm and one leg, just cannot think of its name.

I am guessing that the ugly faerie may just be what I said a few weeks ago about hybrid creature types. It looks very faerie/goblin combo-ish.

skipping the discard phase and getting cards off the sideboard have been both done by library of leng and research//development so not a lot of never before seen in those last 2 points.

I'm not talking about sideboard, or a "wish" card or the Ring of Ma-ruf, I mean cards that have been removed from the game durring the game, like from swords to plowshares, etc...

  • posted a message on [???] What would you like to see on a planeswalker?
With there now being planeswalkers in future sets, what far flung, unusual, or powerful effects would you like to see come out of them?

    I am thinking these:

    1. A planeswalker that has a hand of its own, but three cards max. Has its own untap step, upkeep, draw phase, main phase, attack phase, etc... but cannot be a winner in a match - it's like a "mini-me"!
    2. An a ability to declare an attack on an apponents turn, but only after their attack phase - you would get priority - be like a counter attack
    3. What about one that allows you to skip the discard phase
    4. What about one that can retrieve cards that have been removed from the game/play cards that were removed from the game?
OMG I know, some of these ideas would break rules or make the game awkward. But we can addapt. It just might mean altering current rules. It happens all the time with the introduction of new cards, abilities, and card types. We adjusted fine to planeswalkers, why not have them do something unusual.:o

Feedback? Other odd ideas that may or may not be feasible are welcomed Smile

I understand. They weren't obtrusive in the past. It is just this time they have bumped the spoiler's logo to the side, and I was like, "Whoa! What makes this banner so important that it needs to push aside the Eventide logo."

I'm now noticing banners from "BustedTees" hanging over the mtgsalvation logo atop my page.

It has also pushed the Eventide logo to the side on the "partial Eventide spoiler," as if it is more important. Has mtgsalvation sold out? I do not like it. It makes the Eventide logo look less important.

If it is needed to generate funds to support the site, how about a less intrusive spot, like at the bottom of the list, or at least not covering the sites own logo.

I hope I can speak my mind here and not get slapped with any infractions because I disagree with the placement of the banner from the sponsor, that seriously would be old school hammer and sickle communist behavior.

  • posted a message on [EVE] More 'race' speculations
In the past day or so, some Eventide artwork has been found. Wonderful, love it all. Something new is stirring under the fog bank, which I am excited about. Returning or brought back races!!!

What has me wondering is what the races are of the following creatures in the about to be mentioned artwork:

    Figure A:

    and,

    Figure B:

So, what in carnations shall we call these two?

    My guesses are:
    Fig. A -
    1. Beardless dwarf (what the hell woulda beardless dwarf be called???)
    2. A hobbit-like creature with nose acne
    3. A new breed of evolved troll
    Fig. B -
    1. A hag (black/green) or (black/white)
    2. A troll (most definitely black/green)
    3. A repulsive kithkin that got beat with the ugly tree that houses ugly sticks???
Yeah, my ideas of them are far fetched with tinges of humor, but what in the wide world of sports are these ghastly additions to Eventide???

That last one looks like a serpent with bird wings on it. No not like a dragon, an actual snake with bird wings. Maybe it's the R/W avatar, but we dont' have any clue otherwise.

I am guessing it is a Celtic/Brittish Isles version of the Aztec "Quetzalcoatl" - which was a God that had a serpents body and a birds wing's.

Seems that we finally got the Fomori, who were speculated to be in Lorwyn, and then in Shadowmoor.

So, by deductive reasoning, I am guessing the the Fomori are possbily red/white hybrid giants, with a genetic disposition to have goat horns and goat legs (look at how the legs are shaped in the new art).

Don't be decieved by MaRo's articles. Wizards has been known for "red herrings," sleight of hand concepts, smoke and mirrors, among other things to surprise the Magic community.

As in the past, the hybriding of creature types was done without flavor being considered from the set. It would make more sense this time around. If Wizards puts out shaman warriors, soldier scouts, and rebel knights, why not do the same for race?

It is a great chance to explore hybrid casting costs for dreatures a new way.

Apocalypse had hybrid creature, like the Gaea's Skyfolk, which were elf merfolk.

What are the chances of seeing that in Eventide for each color?

The possible combinations would be (I have already factored in creature type bleeds, like flamekin/elemental in black):

    For W/B mana
    • goblin/kithkin
    • flamekin/kithkin
    • elemental/merfolk
    • goblin/giant
    • faerie/kithkin
    For G/U mana
    • elf/merfolk
    • elf/elemental
    • treefolk/merfolk
    • giant/merfolk
    For: B/G mana
    • goblin/elf
    • goblin/treefolk
    • flamekin/treefolk
    • faerie/elf
    For: R/W mana
    • goblin/kithkin
    • flamekin/kithkin
    • kithkin/giant
    For: U/R mana
    • merfolk/flamekin
    • merfolk/goblins
    • merfolk/giant
    • faerie/goblin
    • faerie/flamekin
    • faerie/giant (ok, I admit that would be an oxmoron, but very funny)
What would set these apart from the Apocalypse gold commn creatures is that this time around, the creatures are hybrids.

I got this idea when in another post (in the speculations) someone had mentioned that a textless previewed card had a being that had both elf and goblin features. I began to think, why not? Interesting, fun, and just another small dimension unexplored.

I realize this, I haven't read the Eventide novel, so this is purely speculative. But wouldn't it be great? There could be creatures that are not changelings that can bridge the gap between creature types, allowing an effective multi-tribal theme deck.

(and YES, I know Eventide is not a tribal set, but it could/would still enhance Lorwyn block, so please do not be a bully and point that out to make me look ignorant, this IS a specualtion)

OK, "hag" would be interesting, but the hags were in the OG sets. What is interesting is the grand creature type update as of recent, http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/feature/424a3, has "hag" as a creature type. This could be the reason why "hags" were kept and not changed into shamans or wizards.

it would actually be a good place to try out that :symbw::symbg::symbu: casting cost people were wondering about, it just wouldn't work well with only three colors.

I theory it would work for a casting cost, BUT it would sooo be a nightmare to figure out each and everytime. I might just overlook that card in a draft. If it was :symbw::symbw::symbg: or :symbw::symbg::symbg: or even :symbw::symbw::symbg::symbg:, I would play it. I do not think blue would leak into it since U/B mana is a friendly color hybrid, and a Shadowmoor hybrid grouping, not Eventide.
