It's not so much that it's a big deal, it's about inspiring others. Maybe someone who is reading this post will realize that the 7 year old down the block only has a few cards and doesn't know quite how to play. This is about inspiring others to let off the stinginess and and do a stranger at a FNM night a favor and give them a card or a deck. This is about going to a local Boys & Girls Club or to another center for teens and children to volunteer time to teach Maic, hold tournaments for them, and get a Magic Club going.

This is a bog deal. When was the last time anyone ever shared a good deed. Sure, good deeds go daily unnoticed, but if one can share a good deed and get others into the game, then why not make a big deal about it.

A great example is the movie "Pay it Forward," in which doing a favor was a big deal in the idea it would get others to be as giving. Sometimes a kick in the @$$ is a step forward (sorry global moderators for the language, but the expression is best said if said in it's original form).

So, this is it? No one has anything to tell about giving.

Not that I'm trying to lay down a Jewish guilt trip (OK, I am... kinda), but I feel sorry for the Magic community if there is not a single story, case, or example of someone someone knows who can use a little help from his friends. Get by with a little help from his/her (my) friends (pardon the Beatles refference).

C'mon party people, let's here something, anything?!?!

Tonight I learned something sad in regards to a friend. I do not know if it has to do with his own actions, or if he comes from a family of abusers, ignorers, and/or the type who do not think about their immediate family. But he told me, like the last few years past, that he will get nothing from his family this Christmas. I felt bad for him. He got a fat pack from a friend last year, but still, his family gave him nothing.

I myself am barely keeping above water with my own expenses and holiday shopping for family. But for him, as a friend, I did what I could tonight and will keep doing to make him smile.

I pulled out my trade binder, which is bleak with little trade nowadays, and told him, "Go ahead, look through, any Magic cards you need, just ask and they are yours." I also told him that the Friday after Christmas I will help him put together four decks he has developed. It isn't much, but it made him excited. The words that came out of his mouth were "Really?" Then he lit up as he looked through and pulled three cards that he's been wanting for his deck.

I ask this from all of you at mtgsalvation, if you have a loved one or a friend who plays Magic, but cannot afford a card, or two, or three, or a needs land, commons, uncommons, or even that foily rare he's been dogging you about for two months, give it to them with a smile. Realize that you just made an unfortunate Magic players day/week/month/etc...

Happy Holidays!!!, and remember, it it not the card itself you are giving, it is the spirit of Magic the Gathering you are giving. You are keeping the game, the legacy, the legend of the first serious collectable/playable card game (this is a thread about giving, please refrain from argueing whether that last statement is true or false).

And on an ending note, if you have something to say about giving to others, or an experience you have had with giving another Magic cards who was not as fortunate as you are, then please, share it with us. The more stories I will read from this thread, the happier I'll be knowing that there are kind and generous Magic players out there.

Once again, hope all of you get what you put on your Santa list, spend wonderful, memorable time with friends and family, and get more out of giving gifts than getting them, as I do.

Mery Christmas, Happy Hannukah, and have a funkadelic Kwanza!!!

Thanks for getting back to us on that question. We all very much appreciate the time and effort you put into something like this. It is just a simple gift of giving.

It may bea ***** slap, but it is also a lack of knowlwedge of how well Lesurgo prepared for this so his end has a minimal amount of work to do. He puts the cards in the envelopes, seals them, and drops them off. No writing of addresses, no buying and sticking on of stamps, just the chance fora few envelope paper-cuts.

True, it is a lot to manage, but he did have a requirement to send in with the modded cards SASE (self addressed sealed envelope). So, all he needs is A) A LOT of spit, B) one of those handy sponges-atop-a-plastic-beaker-of-water thingees, (or) C) An eager dog who like the taste of envelope glue (as in doggy likes to lick envelopes).

  • posted a message on Are you sure there will be an 11th edition this year?
Not releasing a Core Set (reffering to 11th) would be a bad move for WotC. It would be akin to adding a 6th basic land that has a color to it, or reprinting one or more of the Power 9.

OK, so those are somewhat apples to oranges comparisons, but they sure would be dastardly & thoughtless actions.

I'm going to say, "Yeah, there most definitely will be 11th Ed. this summer."

WotC likes to shake things up, but shaking things up does not mean 'create bad publicity'.

When will a spolier be available so all of us here at mtgsalvation can see what was sent in? I am hoping before Christmas rolls around.

And Lesurgo, question: if you have pushed the date to the 19th, when might you be shipping them out? I have a feeling that there are many, many more modded cards than last year, so i know it'll take longer to ship them, but the 20th? I am hoping by the 22nd so most who are are stateside can get there's before ol' Mr. Jolly sqeezes his chunky hips down the chimney.

Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah, and have a hip-hoppin' Kwanza to all!

Well, if it should be in "speculation" then can someone move it? I figured it's not a speculation of future cards, more along the lines of an observation.

OK, so first look at the picture here of Nicol Bolas in battle with a few of the known Planeswalkers:

Here the Planeswalkers are aout a quarter the size of the N.B.

Now look at the scale of Nicol Bolas to the dragons in this artwork:

IF those are DRAGONS flying around Nicol Bolas, then is it safe to assume that the plainswalkers are MONSTEROUS scale/size.

Was it known prior to me pointing this out that they are so magnificent and god-like in the world of Magic: the Gathering?

Ans a normal scaled human is supposed to be a 1/1 vanilla. How can a 1/1 vanilla reduce the "loyalty" of a being so immense as a Planeswalker?

Final questions, does anyone agree with me? Does this in fact confirm that the PW's make giants look like ants and amoebas?

  • posted a message on How To Deal With Troll Ascetic?
Quite interesting resurrescting an old post when new sets have been introduced since then. New solutions appear and/or new problems are found.

In regards to the troll accetic, which may be out when 11th rolls around (making this possibly a moot point) is any card that targets all, not just a single. A classic example is engineered explosives or from Ravnica, plague boiler.

For a standard answer to the Troll, play Caldera Hellion!

Lesurgo, can you give us a heads up on how many entries total by lets say, the 15th (a Monday)?

And when do you normally give the spoilers of what's to come in the mail? I'm curious about all entries aside from what gets sent to me Smile

  • posted a message on [CON] Riddle from "Predator and Prey" article regarding a Conflux card
At the end of Matt Place's article, "Predator and Prey," http://wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/ld/15
A Conflux card, whose playtest name is "Surprise Watkins," named after Rob Watkins.

    Here's Matt's exact quote:

Blister Beetle's playtest name was Dark Globus, as referenced in Devin's 9/7 comment. It was named after Mark Globus, one of the Jund designers, by Mike Turian, who likes to name cards after R&D members. He continues this in Conflux with Surprise Watkins, named after Rob Watkins, who designs D&D and Star Wars Minis.
I wonder if anyone will guess what the card is from the playtest name ... ?

What does anyone know about playtesting? What does anyone know about Rob Watkins?

This is a hazy riddle-like statement at the end of the article. Like I said in another post, sly hints are just now starting to come about.

  • posted a message on What will a future color bleed include?
This is a far fetched idea, but I started thinking about the set Future Sight.

Now, try to follow me here. Many of the cards from Future Sight, like Time Spiral and Planar Chaos, had a lot of color bleed from one color to another.

Now since these were cards from the "future," there should/could be a set in the future that has colors bleed from from one to another.

Now I am strictly seeing some creatures bleed from one color to another and this is what I have come up with:

    Original Color--------Creature Type--------New Color

    Black------------------Zombies---- ------White/Red
    Black-------------------Thrulls---------------White
    Blue--------------------Faeries---------------Green
    Blue--------------------Merfolk----------Black/White
    White------------------Knights-----------Green/Red
    Green-------------------Elves-----------Black/White
    Green------------------Beasts-----------Black/White
    Red--------------- ----Goblins-----Black/Green/White

Now, I'm not just reffering the two Lorwyn (as a plane, not just a set) for evidence.

There were b/w zombies in Shards of Alara & Apocolypse & b/r zombies in Invasion and Dissension.

I'm not going to list examples for each of the color shifts, but believe me, they have all showed up.

Currently, each creature type is in it's typical color.

Also, please mention shifts in other spells & enchantments, i.e. - card draw in white or red, counterspells in black or green, discard in red or blue, or direct damage in white or green.

  • posted a message on Sliver Deck, Black & Blue
So I have designed a sliver deck. It's main focus is to control the environment and do some bounce/discard in the process. I think my choice in slivers is self explanatory.

Is there anyone with some suggestions for other slivers, or cards to put in instead of the ones i chose?

    Here's the deck:

Here is just one of a few decks I am currently putting together. I am hoping some of you can give me feedback. If you're not sure why I put a certain card in, just ask and I'll explain it. I hope, though, that the "why" for each card is understood.
