Has anyone given any thought to Hangarback Walker as a 1-of to tutor for Ranger of Eos? When we have the mana for ranger we can cast it as a 2/2 and 2 thopters as additional triggers. Early on is not too terrible, it's a Doomed Traveler for 2 with the option of growing when unable to attack.
Vs Midrange and Control it has build-in wrath/removal protection, it's capable of stalling the board and can be a lategame investment.
R/W Is a very hard matchup, they are 100% designed to destroy creature decks.
KCI Is a tipical combo deck, if they have ways to work around the hate they will win. It's part of the game and the reason why we still need a fast clock to have a chance post-board.
The marshal is worst in some situations, especially if the opponent deck is without enchantment removal, but after a couple hundred games think the upsides are more than the downsides. Selfless Spirit in this specific list provides protection for all the creature, allowing some form of overextension.
On the sideboard discussion, Dusk // Dawn looks difficult to resolve against control, and I would have to wrath my own board at least one to get it in the graveyard; the more I think about it the more I see the best wrath currently available as Settle the Wreckage.
I'll try to explain my reasoning to keep the discussion flowing.
With 3 DROP 4 and 3 DROP 5 I find 23 lands to be the minimum, especially considering 3 come in to plat tapped. Also the 7 DROP 3 also require WWW, and this require a lot of lands.
I can see the reasoning behind playing a single Return to the Ranks, I'll probably switch to 1. Maybe an Aven Mindensor can take the place of the second one, Titan Shift feels like a nightmare!
I mostly play online, so the meta i very variable. Storm is always present but there are also a lot of different combos decks, Krark-Clan Ironworks, Elves, Ad Nauseam etc etc. Eidolon of Rhetoric also is usefull Vs any snapcaster deck and Damping Sphere is a house Vs Tron, I find them to be cards with wider range of hate.
Regarding Ajani Goldmane, it seems to be strictly worst than Elspeth, Knight-Errant or Gideon, Ally of Zendikar. Both Elspeth and Gideon are good on their own providing bodies and get's better if you have a board, Elspeth providing evasion and Gideon widespread pump. Ajani seems to be really weak on an empty board.
Hi everyone, I've been running a pretty solid list with a couple of new tricks for the last weeks and it's going pretty fine. I've tried to maximize and capitalize on sheer creature number with benefits from multiple attackers, build in protection from board wipes and the advantages of a streamlined monocolored list.
I'm trying to fit one extra Soul's Attendant in the main and thinking about Stony Silence in the side, but I'm not sure what to take out... Do you have suggestions?
What is everyone thought about this guy? Looks like a good replacement for Honor of the Pure
It'is a threat on his own, instead of something that can be ignored, it's more vulnerable to removal, but it's also something that the opponent needs to remove. It triggers the soul sisters, it is protected by Brave the Elements and it's somewhat resistent to Fatal Push. Also with this option we won't have any maindeck enchantment to hit for Tarmogoyf of Nahiri, the Harbinger.
Since the Mana Cost is somewhat diffult and is potentially a big tempo loss I would not play more that 3, but look like a nice addition.
I've chosen Eidolon of Rhetoric over Ethersworn Canonist mainly for the extra toughness, but it also dodges Kolaghan's Command and keeps Wear//Tear from being a 2 for 1. It also blocks chains of artifact spells Vs some Tron or Eggs decks (a VERY fringe benefit). The format is fast, but at 3 mana it's still quick enought to stop nasty combos (most of the time).
Since I'm trying Cavern of Souls I'm pretty tempted to switch back to Canonist just because it's a human!
Hallowed Moonlight wasn't really doing mutch, Eidolon of Rhetoric will hurt a lot of combo decks and at the same time ruin Snapcaster Mage for everyone.
Return to the Ranks is doing really good while Martyr of Sands looks fine as a 1of tutot target for Ranger of Eos.
Mistveil Plains is a pain with the ETBT, the payoff is really not worth the slow start. I'm not yet sure about Cavern of Souls, but I'll try a 2of to test it.
Vs Midrange and Control it has build-in wrath/removal protection, it's capable of stalling the board and can be a lategame investment.
Vs Aggro and Combo its too slow, but Ranger can then fetch Soul Warden or Serra Ascendant.
It also has INSANE sinergy with Archangel of Thune, but this is just icing on the cake.
NB I'm currenlty choosing Benalish Marshal over Honor of the Pure, so the non-white nature of the card is not a problem.
