Sideboard card at best. Used against Izzet to exile their Jump-Start cards and Phoenixes. +1/+1/-5 could be lethal if they exiled a few cards themselves.

I have no idea what's the point of her second ability...

Eh. It's an absolute bomb in limited, of course, but it's close to a design we've already seen: Curator of Mysteries. In Constructed, it's good in your opening hand, but unless you run 4x, you won't see it there very often. The rest of the time, it's a 4/4 Flyer for 4.

I don't think Drake decks will replace Crackling Drake with him, and I don't think Mono-Blue Tempo wants a 4 drop creature. Where would it fit?

The light of hope is growing really dim for this archetype, which is saddening me greatly.

In other news, I'm hoping there are going to be cards with Spectacle that Jund could make use of. Spectacle as a mechanic has some promise.

Well, I look at things differently. As more and more threats and answers enter Modern, what I see is a move from 3 to 2 color decks: Jeskai splitting into UW Control for hard control and some UR Control for Bolt-Snap-Bolt and/or Combo finishers, while Jund is becoming BG Rock thanks to the power of Assassin's Trophy, or even GR Blood Moon aggro. Mardu Pyromancer is one card away from becoming a 2 color deck (a BR replacement for Lingering Souls).

The reason for Crackling Drake is to have a must answer threat: "You have 1 turn to deal with it before I attack for lethal." It's there for grindy matchups. Yes, it is not very good in aggro or combo matchups, but we have scrys and loots to get rid of it in those games.

Bedlam Reveler is good, but it is not evasive, makes us more vulnerable against Graveyard hate, and we have card draws aplenty, so we are not as often hellbent as the mono-red version.

At the moment, I'm using 3 Monastery Swiftspear and 2 Crackling Drake, though I have not had the opportunity to try that configuration yet. It is quite possible, with Modern being so fast these days, that the correct number is 4x and 0x (or a couple in the sideboard).

Too expensive, too hard to cast in a 3 color, Blood Moon deck. I don't think I would want to replace either Dreadbore, Kolaghan's Command, Terminate or Abrade to run it.

    I'm expecting:
    1bw
    Instant
    Exile target non-land permanent.

Honestly, we should have had this instead of anguished unmaking.

    I'd love to get:
    Bw
    Sorcery
Target opponent exiles two cards from their hand.

Not specifically for this deck, but I think we need something like this to beat up on the combo decks. Might be too good for standard though.

Thinking about it, I would like a BW Instant: "As an additional cost to cast this spell, sacrifice a permanent: Destroy target nonland permanent".

I think the best we can hope to get for BR in the next set is a Dreadbore reprint (or an Unlicensed Disintegration variant for Standard). What I expect is a good spell for BW, something like a Vindicate that doesn't target lands: that color combination needs more love in modern.

Yeah, those mana bases seem very greedy indeed! You'll probably be forced to FoR turn 3 to fix your colors (which is the earliest you can), so you can forget about Lily. And you better hope you're not playing a mono-colored deck or a Blood Moon deck that is only fetching basics!

I'm counting 16 black sources for Pockerwizard's deck and 15 for David Daniel's deck, so that's 88% and 84% chances of having Lily mana on turn 3, but it's 95% and 92.5% on turn 4. Chances are David is using turn 3 to FoR the opponent.

I'm not willing to go to 4 FoR for mana consistency issues, but given this weekend's results, I'm thinking of going down to 17 black sources, and running the third Treetop village over the 2nd Hissing Quagmire.

Eldritch Moon was the best set printed between Khans of Tarkir and Guilds of Ravnica, with several modern playable cards (Selfless Spirit, Bedlam Reveler, Collective Brutality, Spell Queller), but it was a small summer set, making it the least opened set that year.

For Gisela, she was reprinted in the From The Vault flip cards, so her price will be relatively stable for the next few years.

Moved to Established - Midrange. We now have three threads for all BG/x flavours. See here for the Abzan Primer, here for the Jund Primer, and please post in this thread for all straight BG deck things.

    Rock on!

Sultai would like a word, preferably in a dark alleyway somewhere. Wink

    Joking aside, nice primer.

Vivien Reid is played as a 2-3 of in the most popular deck at the Pro Tour, and she is from the Core 2019 summer set which has low value, so it wasn't opened or drafted much. High demand, low supply.

    Hello everyone!

Looks like we got a 5-0:

    https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/1451015#paper

List looks a little weird to me: 4 Night's Whisper, no fetchlands with 4 Push, only 2 PtE, 2 Nixilis and no Sorins...

    Any thoughts?

4 Night's Whisper, 2 Ob Nixilis and 4 Thoughtseize in the main. He did not play against burn in that league!

We have Sol Malka's list here, since he went 8-0 day 1: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/event-coverage/8-0-decklists-grand-prix-atlanta-2018-2018-11-04

We do not have Reid Duke's list, though I know he was playing Grim Flayer in his deck, since he had one in hand during his match against Devoted Company.

Hey everyone. I've been running Jeskai Thing Ascension recently against a friend, it's been great fun but this deck seems to be an upgraded version. I'll be looking forward to its success and probably be joining once I get my hand of 4x Arclight Phoenix.
