posted a message on 2014 GP schedule...21 Limited and Sealed GP's....Really?
    Quote from Sene
Limited is 1) very popular, 2) accessible to all.

I see nothing wrong with it.

I don't have any solid evidence that it's the most popular or not, but I won't deny that it's definitely one of the easier formats to play, and generally the most rewarding to skilled limited players. Obviously it's in large numbers because you don't need a deck to play, you can just show up and play, so it's easier to go to these events if you're a player of any variety.

It's just, I personally don't liked sealed so I'm on the complaining side. :p

    Quote from Sene
    Also, for the record, 21 of 46 is not 85%. It's 46%.

47.8%* is close enough to "half" to call it "half" for the sake of complaining.

    *It's 22 sealed events out of 46, not 21.

This feels like a Yu-Gi-Oh card. Look at all those stars. Lets sacrifice two creatures to summon it!

posted a message on Why can't gold bordered cards be used?
    Quote from McMTG
    There is no slippery slope.

    MAGIC: THE GATHERING® TOURNAMENT RULES
    • The card is genuine and published by Wizards of the Coast

Gold bordered fits that. Fakes and proxies do not.

The only change that would have to happen in the tourney rules would be this one.
    • The card has black or white borders. Add gold.

    There is already.

    • The card does not have squared corners.

I believe that there would be a price jump for gold bordered cards.

Great for collectors. I don't believe in the collector argument anyway.

    You're forgetting about...
The card has a standard Magic back or is a double-faced card.

You're altering a lot of things just so you can use all those gold bordered cards you own. If the price isn't going to drop (and we agree that it'll likely cause them to rise) then the only reason to do this is so that there is more availability of cards to use, namely those of which you already own and just wish you could use.

If you get to use your gold bordered cards, why can't I use those blank cards that come in the decks, and just write what I want to on them? Why can't I use cards I printed onto REAL magic cards that I blanked myself? Why can't I use proxies I 100% made my self? If you can change all the rules about what can and cannot be used, why can't I change them too to benefit myself as well?

Are you starting to see the slope?

And what about players who don't want to use sleeves? Sure, they'll probably need to exchange the cards in their deck with others as the event goes on, but nothing in the rules is preventing them so long as they have a magic back, and all cards that are playable in events have magic backs. The almost didn't however! A history lesson would teach us that back with Arabian Nights they almost changed the backs to a lavender color scheme.

Ultimately if the reason you want this is to introduce about less than 1% more of those cards into circulation, for a discount of $20 off $180, then why are would we do this again?

    Quote from asw122
Note where I said "in readily available numbers". So a decent printing, not a Modern Masters Printing. And if they supplement it every couple of years, reasonable prices are very achievable, after all, there's an inherent cap on their usefulness. Tournament players wouldn't care about them one jot because they'd be no more use in their decks than a YuGiOh card. So where the original commander decks were snapped up by people after the oozes and flusterstorms, which drove up the price, that wouldn't happen with CE15. It wouldn't be an instant "hey look, $5 underground sea's, but if they did a decent printing (probably not on the level of a main set, but way more than MMA god) every couple of years, the cumulative effect would work.

Yeah, but that's also magical christmas land thinking. It's not a bad idea, but lets be real here, that's about as likely to happen as them abolishing the reserve list and mass printing the real things in modern border. I'm not saying it won't ever happen, but for that to happen the way you want it seems like something that wouldn't happen for years.

posted a message on Lifegain Combo Query
You'll have 40 triggers off of each Cat, and you evaluate the life gained as the triggers resolve. So the first trigger will net you 2 life, and trigger Thrun. Thrun will go on the stack above the 39 remaining triggers and you'll then have 40 3/3 cats. Then the next kitty trigger will resolve gaining you 3 life, and then you'll have a litter of 4/4's shortly after. And then the 3rd trigger of 40 will gain you 4... and then 5/5's... and then 5... and then 6/6's... and so on and so forth.

    Quote from Bluebeard
all of the cats will come into play at the same time. Trostani will see each one and trigger, gaining you 2 life 40 times, which will then trigger Archangel fo Thune 40 separate times, marking each creature with 40 +1/+1 counters

Don't forget that those life gaining triggers will each resolve one at a time as well and that they'll buff his cats through thrun, buffing his life with the next trigger a little more, then buffing his cats even more, then buffing his life more so then the last, and then buffing his cats yet again even more so (you get the idea).

posted a message on Cards that seem like they should have Promo/Alt prints?
    [cough]JUDGEFOILFORCEOFWILL[/cough]

I think there are a few cards worthy of an FNM or GP promo, but those typically are dubbed based on their median current popularity.

posted a message on Counterfeit cards?
    Quote from blitzmage_89
Situation 1: I'd call the judge and do everything in my power to force my opponent to get DQ-ed regardless of his intentions. Why? I did not travel miles and paid for lodging just to get beaten by a potentially fake card.

Situation 2: I'd first ask for apology from my opponent and make him understand my situation. I'll try to strike a compromise such as replacing the card with a sideboard card instead. If he doesn't agree I'll just say that I'll concede as long as he doesn't report it to the judge. If he pushes through then there's really nothing more I can do. It's just a card game.

So in situation one you would assume they were totally guilty, but in situation two you would be willing to accept that perhaps your fakes are in your deck by no fault of your own? I just find that a little comical.

Aside from that, this looks like it will be either a game lose for a deck/decklist problem (with a potential fix) if the judges determine it was an unfortunate mistake, or a disqualification for cheating if the judges feel this was intentional. If you found yourself in this pickle I would urge you to call a judge about it. If they find out later that you were aware of the mistake and hid it from them, things could get a lot worse for you. posted a message on I have a tendency to think that 2B>1BB(in terms of converted mana cost)
Why is 1BB winning over 2B right now? If you had two identical spells, generally speaking the one that is easier to cast is the better one. Devotion is the first step towards dismissing the claim of "strictly better" but that's not what's being asked.

posted a message on Stupid Question..
Let me make this simple. If you're playing to win, and you're playing to win competitively, you're playing the odds and the numbers. If your deck is 60 cards then you're playing with the best possible odds. 61? Probably won't alter your odds too much but we all know that 96% pure meth won't cut it next to Heisenberg's 99%.
