Looks like u/w control with mishollow griffin's stock is rising.
Rest in peace wrecks so much stuff, and will likely be legacy playable, strictly better than morningtide with the bonus of planar void while it's in play, wow. 0/1 goyf vs enchantress, yes please.
I hope it's real, this kicks Pauper TPPS in the nuts.
too bad it's uncommon and not pauper playable.
Worst charm ever, at best it kills an artifact or wipes a graveyard, third mode is suicidal in all the decks that run dudes.
We've only seen 1 playable rakdos card for constructed. I'm going to speculate that this is par for the course and r/b gets the hard shaft in RTR. Since it sounds like they had a suicide mechanic that was hard to balance so they scrapped it and gave us the piles of garbage weve seen as last minute replacements. I doubt rakdos will be playable outside of limited and this card is more proof of why. It's a terrible win more card if you have your opponent losing enough life to make this card a decent sized 3 drop then you are already winning. It requires alot more to set up than playable threats, and thus does nothing on it's own forcing you to overcommit to the board making it even easier to get blown out by sweepers.
The Blue card it's a one sided upheaval at instant for 1 mana more seems good, and being able to play it on something early game seems ok.(yes I know upheaval hit lands and your stuff and this does neither of those things.) it is a game winning alphastrike I win card that will see some play in some kind of midrange or ramp and it solves alot of tokens.
The Orders card is not too hard to evaluate since it tutors for dudes and throws one into the grave for utility or reanimation and the other to hand looks like it will see play in jund zombies as a 1-2 of to tutor for a one of hail mary bomb and a gravecrawler or the guild leader himself.
could someone change the title of the thread I thought that rakdos was getting a decent card in this set then saw Rix Maadi Guildmage instead of the good ole weakening goblin making hybrid card of yesteryear.
Anyway, There are going to be two 2 colors commanders in each deck, from what i gather? like URG would have a UR and GU, while BUG would have a different GU and a BG, and so forth.
~Lil Kalki
No, there will be 1 commander per deck from what I gathered otherwise the decks wouldn't work since the minimum in the format is 100 cards.
There will be 10 wedge(3color) generals and 5 enemy generals.
Rav/Csp/Tsp was the best standard format, most healthy format ever made since the design philosophy of tier 2 design and large set sizes.
This was also the cheapest standard format I ever played in since demand for any 1 rare was limited to 1-2 decks and there were alot more cards to build around. (smaller card pool = less viable cards)
Uncommons were the power cards and rares were really good but not Mythic and mana fixing made any 3-4 colored deck viable.
There were multiple control decks Dralnu, Team america...
Combo wasn't a dirty word Since we had Dragonstorm, and project X.
Aggro decks were interesting Boros, Borakdos, spectral force, Ghazi glare.
old combat rules favored aggro and getting value out of creatures other then a 1-1 trade. (going back to almost functional 5th edition combat seems like a huge leap backwards.)
These reasons were more then enough to make it better then the midrange 6cc standard we have now.
When they decided that mythic creatures in the core set that cost 5 or more have to be "akroma good" and anything higher then that should just win the game in a turn or 2.
modern standard is more like stall/ramp, play bomb, can it be removed, no, gg.
pretty boring.
I think a catastrophic celestial event feels mythic. And with a doubtful Constructed playability, plus a strong casual approval, it seems right at home at mythic.
wait, so coming up with a Name that seems mythic for a spell that mechanicly is anything but.
That is the rationalization, if they were to funtional reprint shock and rename it Birth Of The Cosmos, it would then be mythic?
I disagree with making X burn spells mythic reguardless of spell speed, it would need to deal 2 or 3 times what was paid into x to feel mythic,
or be a rare effect in color like Jokulhaups/ Obliterate, not just have a split targeting for equal damage.
Yay another example of utility cards as mythic.
X burn spells as mythic...
Wotc though process: Seeing as there is already a lack of burn in this block, lets make it even harder to aquire.
I don't see why they don't just make mythic rares any colors staple cards. then make commons vanilla creatures, uncommons french vanilla, rares 1 ability or at curve vanilla creatures, mythics to be removal or anything that interacts with the opponent.
Rarity creep is moronic and alienates all but the few that can afford to buy singles for outragous prices or boxes.
It was hard enough to afford playsets of all the good rares and uncommons in standard without functional reprints replacing core cards.
I'm going to guess that it will be like a possible draw orcish librarian
exileing all the cards you don't draw.
so to give you an Idea

The curve is low but no way would I see dropping land out of this deck as it wants to play a land a turn atleast in order to make it's creatures good.
The land count also deflates with all the fetching lands it runs thinning the drawable land potential, but also making double landfall possible.
but 1/2 of these lands do absolutely no mana production on their own.
I would consider teetering peaks, and drop some of the fetches. It makes either of your 1 drops swing for 4 on turn 2. Combo's well with Kor Skyfisher to swing for 4 the following turn and enable landfall dudes.
I do think ranger of eos would be good as at least it would give you a reload.
I would also consider Ajani Vengeant as another source of advantage and reach.
SB: 4 Blazing Torch (Good against Vamps and random pro red x/2's) 3 Unstable Footing (mostly just filling the slot with an instant lava axe that's unpreventable, could just finish with more banefires though) 3 Volcanic Fallout (generic anti aggro filler card decent against vamps) 1 Banefire 4 Goblin Ruinblaster
I have been thinking about r/b though as I don't like overextending into DOJ I would at least run Quest for the gravelord, Blightining and Goblin outlander most likely dropping bushwacker and shortcutter from the main for outlander and quest and unstable footings for blightning and adjusting the mana base to r/b.
most likely

Sure if R&D was actually designing a game for balance, but instead they keep pushing their circlejerk for 1996 and U/W control.

Just saying I can't justify this at mythic.

4 Burst Lightning
4 Goblin Guide
4 Goblin Bushwacker (as just a creature he's mediocre but the +1/+0 is relevant)
1 Banefire
4 Warren Instigator
4 Goblin Shortcutter ( Great in the vamps matchup as the creature they leave back to block most of the time is Vampire Nighthawk)
4 Goblin Chieftain
4 Siege-Gang Commander
4 Voracious Dragon
20 Mountain
4 Blazing Torch (Good against Vamps and random pro red x/2's)
3 Unstable Footing (mostly just filling the slot with an instant lava axe that's unpreventable, could just finish with more banefires though)
3 Volcanic Fallout (generic anti aggro filler card decent against vamps)

4 Goblin Ruinblaster
most likely
only if you make a splash in your mana base, RG/.
otherwise an ok plan.
