I had Tasigur in my previous version but didn´t like the strain it put on my graveyard. I had it in just because I wanted a non-pushable threat available
like you say but so far I have not been missing him. It can be that I will get back to him in the future but right now I like the Thrun and Tracker better in board because of them working well with a GY-hoser in play and the Rhino main for just, you know, Rhino-stuff.

What would you cut from my particular list to make room for him? And how would you reconfig the SB since I assume the thing getting cut from main would be put in the board and space would be needed in board?

    Sorry for the late reply.
I underatand your sentiments with Rhino. I had Rhino before and felt clunky. But when i tried a rhinoless list, my winrate plummetted. Slotted rhino back in and have been doing well a tutorable lightning helix is no joke.

In regards to straining your graveyard, I think you need to play more games with Tasigur. 85% of the time, I can delve a 1 mana Tasigur and still have delirium. He CAN be a hindrance, but more often than not, it leaves your graveyard intact.

When your opponent has a yardhate card in play, you have 2 deckbuilding optoons.
    A) just board out Tasigur. Against something like Mono White Hatebears that will bring in 5 pieves of yard hate, you can actively board out Tasigurs and such for more stickier threats (liks Tracker)
    B) run more antihate cards. This is what I am doing and have 3 Abrupt Decays main as well as boarding in Reclamation Sage. Youre also leaving in discard to nab thiae hate cards post board.

In regards to what to cut, I am leaning towards Eidolon, Kitchen Finks, & Thrun. You say you have a lot of control in your meta so, Thrun stays. I am not a fan of Finks either and would rather have a 2nd Brutality. However, if you really want to gear your board towards control, then finks stays as well. That leaves Eidolon the odd man out. The only matchups I like it in are Ad Nauseum and Living End (storm also, but its a positive matchup for us already).

However these matchups are betger with the traverse version. I personally like Spellbombs over Surgicals because of this reason and can nab the graveyard. Also tutoring ip Bojuka Bog and scooze takes care of it. For Ad Nauseum, we only lose when the opponent has a Leyline in play and we cant molest their hand with discard. Tutoring up Rec Sage and ripping their hand apart is a path to success.

But thats just me, Ive found Eidolon a little overkill. But if there is a heavy amount of Living End, Ad Nauseum, and storm in the meta, I can see merit too.

Well there is a lot of affinity in my meta so i guess Ill be treading dangerous waters when I get all my pieces in the mail.

For that meta, is 3 Stony Silence better? Or 2 Stony Silence 1 Fragmentize?

Thanks again for the input everyone. So heres the list Ill probably test out in a couple weeks (once the rest of the deck arrives).

    How does it look?

    A) 3 wraths are a little iffy to me. I might cut 1 Dusk/Dawn for a Worship.
    B) What is better: 2 Sunlance or 1 Sunlance & 1 Dismember
    C) BIG QUESTION: Do you board in Burrenton Forge Tender in against something like Grixis Shadow (theyll probably board in Kozileks Return, or Anger of some sort right?)
    D) Am I missing any other sideboard tech? Im considering cutting the 3rd crusader in the side if need be.

I like weathered wayfarer more than most. Typically you look to board him out when on the play, but on the draw I almost always keep him in. If people want to take him out for another crusader I wouldn't argue, but I think he is under appreciated.

Yeah Revoker is hit for miss, but so is a lot of the deck. The idea is to keep your opponent tilted and Revoker goes a long way in doing so. Again, I keep mine in, but people that take it out for a crusader are probably fine.

You can try a 2/2 split, but I have tried it and I prefer the 4 relics. Though, that being said, I have lost a round because ingot chewer kills relic, but RIP would have been ok. The relics lack the brute strength of RIP, but are easier to cast (esp through thalia), are easier on the curve, and cantrip instead of being dead draws when in multiples.

The key difference between forge tender and alliance is that forge tender prevents red wrath effects from destroying your board presence. It's an ok card against burn, there are better cards, but it's an ok card against burn that is also an excellent card against red board wipes.

I like worship as a card. I hate facing a worship, but I also hate relying on it. Outside of merfolk decks typically have a way of dealing with it somehow, so I don't want to rely on it. For example, Affinity may not be able to destroy the worship, but an unanswered grid can just kill your creatures.

Stony silence is good, but in no way guarantees a win against affinity. If affinity is prevalent I think 3 is the way to go, rather than 2, but I think I'm going to try 4 fragmentise this weekend instead. My current build is slightly different, which is key, but I'm finding the vials to be more clutch in the affinity matchup than previously thought. The freeing up of your mana is huge against affinity so you can open your GQ and edges, while cantriping to relvent cards with canopy and clues.

I feel like a lot of your questions can be broken down into 1 decision. D&T is an aggro deck that plans to keep your opponent "off their game" and there are two ways to do that; more passively, with finesse, by throwing small hurdles in their way (revoker, wayfarer, relics); or with more brute strength with less efficient cards, but cards with more board presence (crusader, RIP, Stony). The question you need to ask yourself is, "which type of player am I?".

Do you want your opponent to respect your threats more than your ability to hinder theirs? Are you confident in your play decisions to make your game strategy one long story rather than trying to just out muscle them? To an extent D&T inherently is a strategy that does both, but your answer will help guide your flex spots.

I GREATLY appreciate your reply. Your post was very imformative and belpful.

    A) I guess I am comparing Wayfarer to Grim Lavamancer (whether thats right or wrong) where untapping with Lavamancer late game is still great while Wayfarer can still just be a 1/1, especially with moderns low landcount and our LD plan.

    B) Ill probably do a 2/2 split. However looking at it, I feel like I have too much graveyard hate. 1 Grafdigger's Cage, 2 Relics, and 2 RIPs. I think i can safely cut one. Which would you cut? I feel like cutting a Relic (which shows what kind of player I am pertaining to the end of your post, haha)

    C) I TOTALLY forgot about Aethergrid. But then again, if they land Aethergrid, I feel like we are kind of screwed unless we draw a 1of Aetherize or something.

I also have some more questions after some playtesting

    1) The current manabase has 4 Ghost Quarters and 4 Tectonic Edge. The Edges seem REALLY lacklustsr. I feel like Sea Gate Wreckage and manlands like Mutavault or Blinkmoth Nexus are better suited. 4 GQs, 2 Tec Edge, and then maybe a Wreckage and a manland? Thoughts?

    2) What cards are usually brought in vs go wide decks? I previoualy posted about Worship and it obviously has its flaws. Wraths seem bad in the deck. Maybe something like Silent Arbiter? Lol

So I am back on Traverse after failing during last weekends PPTQ. Been testing this list on Xmage since I don´t have the means to shell out for the deck on MTGO currently. I´ve been winning a lot with it because of the versatility the deck provides and it´s very easily adapted to whatever deck you face. Thrun has been a house against all the UW-decks, the Flayers are aggressive enough against big mana along with the Fulminator providing a bump in the road for them. Anywho, I find this list to be the best one I´ve played with so far and it is not that different from Edel´s lists, just some flexspots different but it seems to be in a sweetspot at the moment for me. If you have any questions let me know but I think most is self-explanatory and just wanted to share.

Only change I´ve been thinking of is to replace the Quagmire with a Treetop for faster activations.

I highly recommend Tasigur main, to the point where I think its wrong when Traverse lists dont have it. Being able to tutor up a 1 mana goyf when mana is tight is so clutch. Thats on top of providing late game value and being Push proof.

    Hey Everyone,

I'm a new Death & Taxes player and I have a couple questions. I bought into the deck based on the 2nd place deck at GP Vegas and have a couple questions. For starters, here's the list

    1) How good is Weathered Wayfarer? It seems bad since it feels like your opponent will be short on lands from you Gqing them and Tec Edging them. The main reason I ask is I feel like Mirran Crusader seems REALLY good right now and I would like to up the count to 2 main and opening up a sideboard slot. Is Wayfarer that critical to the deck?

    2) How good is Phyrexian Revoker main? Seems to be great in certain matchups and not others but 1-of seems fine.

    3) The graveyard hate in the board seems weird. The list has 1 Cage and 4 relics. Why no Rest in Peace? Or at least a 2-2 split? 1 Cage seems great vs. company decks and RIP just stone cold shuts off the graveyard.

    4) How are 2 Burrenton-Forge Tenders? Isn't something like Blessed Alliance better since it can be brought in vs. other matchups as well (ie: shadow)?

    5) What about a card like Worship in the side? It seems great vs. go wide decks like Merfolk, Elves (w/o black), Affinity (GQ their inkmoths), etc.

    6) Affinity seems like a problem and I think I am going to up the Stony Silence to 3. Is that acceptable or bad?

    Thanks for peoples help.

Yeah, I figured it is a tough matchup. I believe our chances of winning vs it are better than g/x tron thou. So how many stony silences should be boarded in? I use 2 at the moment

Ive only had 2 Stony Silences in the board so it was only 2 for me as well. My buddy had 3 in the board when he was on straight midrange and boarded in all 3. You definitely want to see the card in the matchup, so I can see why he ran 3 and boarded them all in. That being said, 2 is fine.

It turns off Walking Ballista, Hangarback Walker, Mind Stone, Relic of Progenitus, Ratchet Bomb, Basilisk Collar, and Expedition Map. That's generally worth it enough for me, especially since a couple of those cards can present a real problem.
Do you know what also presents a real problem? Thought-Knor Seer, Reality Smasher, Endbringer, Karn. So when you spend your entire turn 2 playing Stony Silence, only to get TKS into back-to-back Reality Smasher the following turns, tell me how good it felt to bring in.

If they have a bonkers t2/3 TKS into smasher, endbringer, karn, youre not winning that game anyway. And in actual reality and an average game, Eldrazi Tron heavily leans on those artifacts listed.

Its a bad matchup. Youre not going to win vs their best hands. You can STEAL games though with Stony Silence turning off most of their hand.

Damantion, Stony silence. I really can think anything else. It is a bas matchup like regular eldrazi and regular iron

I really wouldn't bring in Stony Silence, it's not a bullseye like it is against Regular tron. It turns off Wakling Balista, but that's really it, I still lose to Reality Smasher most of the time anyway. I'd prefer more removal and lifegain before Stony Silence.

I bring it Kitchen Finks, Blessed Alliance, Obstinate Baloth, Thrun, the Last Troll or Abzan Charm against all forms of Eldrazi and it works pretty well.

This is wrong. Coming from a guy who plays Traverse, I REALLY REALLY miss Stony Silence in the Eldrazi Tron matchup. Turning off all the cards DeFish mentioned + a quick clock like goyf or Flayer is a pretty good avenue to victory and our best shot at winning the game.

Id cut a Second Brutality for a 4th Path. Path is at its best right now with shadows, anglers, eldrazi, etc. Unless of course your meta is full of burn, but even then. I definitely would want the 2nd brutality in the 75 so id move it to the board.

To be honest, those are the 2 cards I have the least amount of experience with in the sideboard. So I wouldnt take my input on these 2 cards to heart.

Tireless Tracker I bring in vs any matchup that goes long. Its going to be hard hitting land drops for clues but if the game goes long, thats when Tracker shines. Grixis Shadow, control, mirror, etc.

Gaddock Teeg is currently something I am testing at the moment. I previously had Grafdiggers Cage since I really hated Collected Company and Chord of Calling. Teeg shuts off those 2 cards as well as big mana bombs. So its main purpose isnt tron or scapeshift, but its nice that I can board it in vs those matchupa. Being Traversable is also nice.

Conversely Teeg doesnt hit the graveyard so I compensated by havkng 2 spellbombs in the board (on top of bog and scooze main).

I can report back on how they do, but Im currently playing a lot of Legacy so I havent been able to test those 2 as much Id like.

I agree, Stony silence is MILES better than Kataki since it covers more matchups. That being said, Bauble is such an important part of our deck that cutting it or shutting it off makes it that much harder to hit delirium.

That being said, I was on the play vs Affinity 2 weeks ago. I played land pass. Opponent went off with drums, ornithopter, opals, pest, skirge, with citadel. No mana open. I played Kataki T2. On his upkeep, he blasted my Kataki but the trigger still goes on the stack and Mr. K wiped his whole board. Hes not as good as Stony Silence vs Affinity, but hes still DAMN good.

And np! Let me know if you need any more help.

    1) The thing about Stony Silence is it shuts off your Baubles. Also, Kataki is Traversable.
    2) I dont like the main deck Finks unless you specifically have a lot of Burn in your meta. And in that case, you shouldnt be maining 3 Bitterblossoms. Scooze is a better maindeckable card in an open meta so I would just swap them.
    3) 3 Bitterblossoms seems like a little much. I think 2 is fine and have a 4th flayer to race the combo matchups. You already have 3 Souls for the grind.
    4) Fulminators by themselves might not be enough but going discard -> 2drop -> stone rain is a winning formula vs any big mana decks. Having their lands unmolested is just a bad idea. Compared to the traditional abzan version, the traverse version is lower to the ground and faster and can capitilize on nabbing a key land.

  • posted a message on Avacyn for SO
    Hey everyone,

I need some help building a commander deck for my SO. Ive tried building her Bruna, Sigarda, Teysa 2.0 and have come to some conclusions.
She likes mono white. She really likes Avacyn, Angel of Hope and Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite. She doesnt like all in voltron.

I picked Avacyn since I can build an Angel subtheme along with a bunch of wraths and she fits perfectly. Heres my rough draft.

    Some questions.

    A) Is 40 lands too many? I feel like the deck needs a lot of mana so I figured Id start there.
    B) How about the number of mana rocks? Wraths?
    C) If you do the math, Im actually 2 short of 100. Any other suggestions to round out the list? Any and all input would be appreciated Smile

Seems baaed on an inbred meta. Geared 100% to fight shadow with bitterblossom and KoTR turoring up township or vault of the archangel.
