Dismember is a necessary evil. Leaving one mana open is a lot easier than two mana open as well. I've been thinking of going to 2 Batterskull main to combat the life loss. Pumping a Smasher with SC to get in the last few damage can be good at times though. You could always try a 2/1 Dismember/SC split and see how it goes.
A word on Conduit too. It has to be run with Ulamog. Otherwise there really is no point. I'm even kicking around running another 7 cmc Eldrazi likeBane of Bala Ged as a Conduit target as well. (Since Dismember seems to be on the decline) Just haven't gotten bold enough yet. It seems a stretch. Good luck.
I want to try out conduit of ruin in the main since it is easier to cast with eldrazi temples then karn and i want more interaction with combo decks with warping wail in the side.
Thoughts ? Otherwise its a pretty stock list.
Hooray!!! I've found a fellow Conduit of Ruin fan. We are few and far between though.
I run 2 myself. The 2 mana savings can be real at times as well. The ability of Ulamog to go over the top and an alt-win-con can be handy in certain metas. Good luck and let us know your results.
Why would people be content for just 3 mana turn one? I would assume everyone would try to break it with combinations of Simian Spirt Guide, Gemstone Caverns and maybe Pyretic/Desperate Rituals. 4, 5 maybe 6 mana turn one? It could get ugly. I like cheating on the curve but it would prove to be too much I believe.
I have played this deck at a couple FNMs and the best I have done is 2-2 and the other two times are 1-3.First game I usually win and game 2 and 3 are rough, they learn to keep tokens off the board or apply pressure soon as possibly because we have don't have removal or any disruption.
I am starting to thinking the Mardu version is the way to go, use nahiri as our polymorph, bitterblossom for creatures and play creature kill and discard to get the combo pieces. I have actually talked to a guy that basically runs a deck like that and he said he going 3-1 all the time.
That could be one strategy for sure. And maybe the correct one as well. I combo turn 3/4 with regularity but the combo is easily disrupted as you say. I've also lost with Emrakul on the board as well. Lack of Haste hurts. Let us know what you brew up and test with.
Until Wizards prints a land that lets you sack it to give a creature haste, or lets you sac a land to counter an instant the "combo" will always be glass cannon. I won't give up on UR version yet but for now it may be able to go no further without a major overhaul to include counter for protection.
Also looks like 4 copies of ETron in the SCG team constructed event finals today total, with Todd Stevens and his ETron deck in the Final Four to be played soon. Has a AdNauseam matchup. Its going to be rough methinks.
It doesn't seem to offer much over Ratchet Bomb against DS.
I can see where it appears that way at first glance and RB is more than likely the better choice. RB can be removed before you can use it vs. DS. Effigy could be activated at instant speed if 4 mana are available and it does exile the creature potentially weakening Goyf or future Goyfs. I agree the card is narrow and slow, but Ratchet Bomb isn't exactly quick either, albeit far more flexible. Its just a thought as for 5 mana overall I think I'd rather run more Batterskull or maybe another Karn.
Sometimes I wonder if Brittle Effigy could be useful as a X2 SB against DS decks. Kind of like a mini-Karn one shot effect on Goyf or Shadow. Just a thought, not sure it would be worth testing or not as a 1 cmc cost Effigy runs smack into Chalice as a non-bo.
Speaking of an Affinity heavy meta. If you run All is Dust main it is basically a dead card. (Also dead in the mirror match) Oblivion Stone maindeck gives you that sweeper in this instance. Again in an Affinity heavy meta, if not stick with AiD.
Hello. An interesting take/build on the deck for sure.
I have a couple of issues. One is whiffing into a Dryad Arbor that will happen more often than what I find comfortable. Another is a hand full of Atarka's Command with nothing to play them on which will happen more often than what you may think as well. AC doesn't further the combo really. Those 4 slots could be any combo of card filtering/counterspell/bounce/token generation or mana acceleration(Rituals).
Opponents find out quick that the key is just holding back a mana or two to eradicate a token to disrupt the spell/combo. They will do the same with Dryad Arbor as well.
Give it a try. Don't let me get you down. I just foresee it being a bit slow without Rituals and still suffering from the problem that the "combo" is Sorcery speed that can be stopped by every removal spell under the Sun. Good luck and let us know your results.
Hope those of you that run Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger got your copies a while back as its spiking in Standard right now with all the Temur Aetherworks decks. Still cheaper than Karn though. I'd like a 2nd copy of Karn but at current prices I don't feel like pulling the trigger. I suppose there could be a chance for a reprint in Iconic Masters but that isn't until November. I wonder how long before Ugin creeps up as well.

Trinisphere X2 in the side vs. Eggs maybe? Looks like you don't run into it much though.

Is this for the mirror match?
Legacy Weapon plus Cascading Cataracts
Again, its budget, I didn't say good.
