I think Urza might be your guy...ok sorry, I'll go home now.
But in all seriousness, I was actually just thinking about how good Ayula would be for this exact purpose. It would be a nice limited tribal pool to pull from, and it would be focused because that's how mono normally is.
It might even be a good loaner deck for when the newer players want to change things up.
I've always really liked Battlecruiser when I'm in an unknown meta; I just think it's more fun if you don't know who you're playing with to be able to ease in and wind up with one big haymaker after the other.
In my personal meta though, I want to see different archetypes at different levels of competitive, because there's a real difference between a tier one deck and a tier two or three deck in the same archetype, and I always want to have the opportunity to get my butt kicked if I'm not on my toes.
This is a really interesting write-up and I would just like to thank you for posting it. I don't have any experience with the Epic cards, so I can't contribute to the strategy, but I will say that the combination of protection enchantments (Privileged Position and Sterling Grove and the others) is still weak to mass enchantment exile such as Merciless Eviction. I think that's just something that you have to live with though: sometimes your opponent just has the perfect card.
Otherwise though, this is super cool, and I'll be interested to see its development.
I still think that Disciple having a body to recur is where I want to be. I still haven't picked up a Xiahou Dun yet, so that might change at some point, but if you like the other options, then use what works.
I have to be honest, Disciple of Bolas is my favorite card in my Ayli list. That card is what I consider Bonkers Good, and I think the only way I would cut it would be for a functionally equivalent effect at a cheaper cost...and I would probably just run both.
If I was presented with this situation, I think I would build pure pillow fort.
I don't think there's anything more frustrating than beating everybody other than that guy and not being able to finish the game.
This would drive me to find ways to make my deck building better, and I think could help get them moving.
Also, for extra salt, I would include that enchantment that draws the game lol
That's incredible man! Congratulations! My biggest problem would be getting them to the shop to play, which would lead me to my second biggest problem: picking one!
Hey everybody, I wanted to ask for opinions regarding some Christmas presents to myself.
I'm torn between two options:
The first would be a Gaea's Cradle
The other option would be to get Mana Drain, Force of Will, and Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed.
They would all be very good, they mostly speak for themselves, after all. Xiahou Dun would be an excellent role player that would allow for spell recursion in a deck that otherwise can't. And Karametra loves to drop creatures onto the battlefield.
So, if given the choice, would you pick the three, or the one?
I'm actually beginning to think I should put her and Karlov in my Ayli deck to set the scene for a really exile focused control deck. Exile tribal, if you will.
I think the only real option is demonic. You can't beat the card, and at twenty-five bucks it's a great value and will probably always hold that value. Also, if it ever ends up in the trade binder, I guarantee you'll be able to move it
It always seems to me like any deck I play is missing something. I like playing interactive decks that can affect the board, but I also want to be able to pressure the board with aggro, and those don't always go hand in hand, so sometimes I try aggro, and then I feel like I get blown out of the water by consecutive boardwipes. I'm still looking for that balance, I think my first deck, Kaalia, was a good mix of the two, but again, she would get blown out by a well timed Sleep effect and it was so hard to play in multiplayer.
I guess what I'm getting at is that I know that feeling, but it's hard to really nail down what's missing.

The blue spells would go into my Riku of Two Reflections, Xiahou Dun, the One-Eyed would go into my Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim, and Gaea's Cradle would make it into my Karametra, God of Harvests.

You'll need a lot of draw in this deck to keep anything going, so good luck with that.
