Lectrys posted a message on Echoing Urza -- (SaffronOlive)This deck reminds me of an Urza Paradoxical Outcome deck I've seen on MTGO that I'd argue is better (not as vulnerable to graveyard hate, not dependent on sticking a 2-drop creature that dies to Gut Shot, neither initial engine card can be hit with Inquisition of Kozilek, both initial engine cards being 4 cmc opens up the possibility of tutors like Clutch of the Undercity, easier time casting mondo draw spell pre-combo). I think Paradoxical Urza deserves its own thread despite having similar card choices, though.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
Also, on only one Mirrodin Besieged maindeck: with Echo of Eons repeatedly shuffling your graveyard into your library and milling your opponent being a viable alt win con, I've never felt the need for more than 1 Mirrodin Besieged in this deck. -

Keiichi posted a message on CYCLE LOAM - (Reprinted cycle lands Draw Engine)It's really exciting for me to see the Loam engine getting a rebirth in Modern. I'm very much looking forward to seeing if a competitive deck based on it can emerge.Posted in: Deck Creation (Modern)
If you've considered what I have to offer already, feel free to disregard it... If not, I hope this helps with brainstorming. My suggestions will likely take the deck in a different direction than your current list, but as a long-time Legacy Lands player it's the direction I would personally go. A middleground between the following and what you have might be something akin to the old Legacy Aggro Loam lists relying on Tarmogoyf, Knight of the Reliquary, and so on to present a strong offense in combat. If you're willing to explore Naya instead of Jund, Hall of Heliod's Generosity can add resiliency given the enchantment-based wincons that synergize with the engine, and can make dredge decisions less impactful.
Ramunap Excavator and Tireless Tracker are a couple of things you should consider off the bat as both are very powerful and synergize with the Loam engine well.
The primary strength of the Loam engine in Legacy has always been not only breaking card advantage parity but also, perhaps more importantly, land drop parity. Having access to multiple land drops is what makes Ghost Quarter really shine, and allows you to have the resources to really abuse the engine to cast multiple spells or cycle multiple lands per turn or even dredge loam multiple times. Explore, Rites of Flourishing, Azusa, Lost but Seeking, Mina and Denn, Wildborn, Oracle of Mul Daya, and Wayward Swordtooth would all be on my list for testing in a deck trying to really take advantage of the loam engine. Also, Boseiju, Who Shelters All, Bojuka Bog, and other such utility lands can expand your options in a deck that expects to see a lot of lands. Admittedly, breaking land drop parity is much more powerful in Legacy given the lands legal there, but I think the potential advantages are worth investigating in Modern.
Seismic Assault, Molten Vortex, and Living Twister are all worth considering to bolster your wincon options alongside Ayula's Influence as well as act as durable removal.
Other Dredge cards such as Shenanigans and Darkblast may also be valuable, as well as Ancient Grudge, and cards with Retrace such as Flame Jab, Worm Harvest, and depending on your build, Throes of Chaos. -

And, it didnt occur to me, displacement wave is a symmetrical effect. Great for this decks side of the board, but terrible for your opponents board state. Almost, functionally, a ratchet bomb in this context... with a free Retract.

Cascade into Madness; Wheel of Fate(Wheel of Fortune), is designed from and played similarly to the decks, Living End(Living Death) and Zombie Hunt(Treasure Hunt). To dodge the 53 land requirement of Treasure Hunt, Cascade is used to replace this mechanic. To do so, every card in the deck that is not Wheel of Fate and Waste Not must be Converted Mana Cost or higher. This presents problems. Madness, Delve, Traps, Suspend and other Alternative Cost effects are used, within the draw/discard mechanic, to mitigate this hindrance and even obtain value.
Thanks to the way that the Madness rules work, Psychotic Episode peek n' pitches the new hand after a Wheel of Fate or Dark deal; rather than the old hand. You can snipe the biggest non-land threat in the new gassed up hand.

Adding goyf's makes the deck playable to less people; a landfall deck needs landfall creatures. This list looks strong to me. Simic Charm is power here. I wish there was space for Halimar Depths. So too, would i love to see Adventuring Gear get some real play.
I see zero reasons not to run lotus cobra... but, i am very Johnny. To me card draw, dredge and scry are largely the same. Get access; exploit access; win. If the cards scream combo; make combo. Timmy's will undoubtedly see things differently; that's fine.

free sac outlet that is outside play and only costs one red to bring it online? Yes, please.

4 bloodghast
4 myr servitor
4 faithless looting
4 burning inquiry
2 Shattered Perception
4 blood crypt
4 Blackcleave Cliffs
2 Graven Cairns
2 mountain
A bit of a change up to the list... there was no removal aside from Barrage of Expendables swapped out for another dredger, darkblast, to replace the troll. The manabase would have been very, very painful as it sat; enter fastlands and filterlands. zombie infestation is a really powerful way to open a game and it is another modern legal token engine. free myr servitors seemed a better play than the mogg and they are not black, in keeping with the attempt to remain as red as possible. The mogg can sac itself to kill another for triggers, but with Greater Gargadon you have a greater sac outlet. You can also darkblast your our creatures. so, the impetus then becomes, how many triggers can i get per turn?
The combination of bridge from below and Greater Gargadon is really kind of amazing; they are largely outside of play. In the land of abrupt decay, detention sphere / ring of oblivion, and board wipes, this is very powerful. You cant even counter spell the D@** thing until after the tenth time counter is removed. It should also be noted that the card does NOT read "non-token creature." The bridge triggers can pop this 9/7 pretty fast by sac'ing the extras if the game state called for it; a bile blight hit. Graveyard hate hurts dredge no matter what... with Greater Gargadon the attack surface is lessened. hard to answer combo pieces? mmm, mmm, good. I would re-title the thread and deck as "Red Dredge Redemption."
I just bought a Greater Gargadon playset for seven bucks... Tymaret, the murder king is outta here.

The king of murder allows for attacking with and then sac'ing tokens for a double strike effect. Expensive, but as a wincon in some situations it is golden. It is a board presence that must be dealt with. In the yard, he is a free sac outlet that can be discarded to much of the deck for damage or tokens just to allow another free sac. It's a modern-legal version of Cabal Therapy without the awesome hand assault but also, without the exile drawback. As discussed elsewhere, the real issue with the card is the player-only reach; cant bad touch some creatures.
I have not gotten to run it outside of The Forge. I run a Loam deck now and am waiting for the new cards to show up.

4 Bloodstained Mire
4 Wooded Foothills
2 Overgrown Tomb
2 Blood Crypt
4 dryad arbor
4 Dakmor Salvage
2 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
4 Zombie Infestation
4 Bridge from Below
Enablers
4 Life from the Loam
4 Darkblast
4 Faithless Looting
4 Raven's Crime
3 Shattered Perception
3 Conflagrate
4 Nether Traitor
Dredge: 12
Discard: 15
Sacrifice: 7
Zombie Generation: 8
Bridge Triggers: 12
Removal: 7
The deck is much stronger with additional draw and discard; running three red windfalls for the, up to, triple faithless looting and the discard fireball for sac effects and face burn.
This thread has been very helpful to this theorycrafting process.
