I think Golgari would actually be closer to Selesnya. Jared was married to a selesnyan, and both guilds value agriculture and conservation. Plus the selesnya never use golgari as lab rats.
Nice to see another hirobi player, he's just so fun!
Cauldron of Souls is a must. If hirobi's out, its essentially In Garruk's Wake minus plneswalkers just by tapping. If he's not out, it's crazy good recurrence.
Retribution of the Ancients is really good too. It has the same job as Dauthi Embrace, but cheaper, since you can just choose to remove 0 counters from a creature and give a creature -0/-0, but killing them with Hirobi's ability. Mogis's Marauder is also an excellent hirobi synergy, since you get to kill creatures equal to your devotion to black for 2B.
I would run the Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Triskelion combo, since both are really solid alone in the deck, as Mikaeus keeps your stuff alive while everything is dying, plus you can use Retribution of the Ancients to re-prime cards recurred with Mikaeus to trigger undying again, or just use cauldron of souls to give creatures undying and persist, making them unkillable that turn. Triskelion is just kill 3 things for 6 if hirobi's out, which isn't bad at all, and also goes infinite with cauldron.
Soul of the Harvest is 99% of the time a better card than Primordial Sage Not only does it have better stats and trample for the same cost, but it also works for creatures you don't cast in, for things like Tooth and Nail or Elvish Piper. It would be perfect if it worked for tokens. Non-token is my least favorite keyword, which is why i don't run it in my Rhys the Redeemed deck.
Also, a question for the thread. Say you use greater good on a 1-power creature with an empty hand. Would you get a chance to cast the cards you draw before you have to discard back down? Or would you never get the chance? Or is it only instant-speed stuff, but not sorcery?
I run rhys, and i've been considering making a ghave deck.
As a long-time rhys player, rhys is often very combo-y, and i find that i often try to combo off to avoid giving my opponents the chance to wrath, which is REALLY devastating to rhys. Primary difference i say would be interactivity. Rhys kinda plays solitare in my experience. You just do your thing and try to outpace everyone with VERY limited interaction with everyone else. Either they stop you or you overrun them with a comical level of elves, often before they even have enough mana to boardwipe. Not to say rhys isn't interactive, the fun part about rhys is the crazy silly interactions that your creatures will have with each other, but not with the opponent. I imagine it's even better with ghave though.
I've wanted to start playing ghave because ghave has answers. Ghave can control and interact, while rhys more or less just runs. I imagine Ghave might be the better choice, because answers are nice. Plus, no reason at all not to include rhys in a ghave deck, while you can't put ghave in a rhys deck.
Seems pretty good on first glance. I run a rhys elf token deck, and i very much prefer sacing over discarding, since i can generally have an abundance of tokens, so while the randomness is a bit of a bummer, it allows a good bit of filtration, which is a positive over survival, at least in my deck (which is still an excellent card of course) plus it gives you something to do when the card is going to die anyway.

Then there's just classically solid black staples, like Grave Betrayal, Reiver Demon, and Sheoldred, Whispering One
Good luck with the deck 3drinks! I hope these suggestions help!
Some of the mono-green and colorless stuff i use for draw in my deck are Evolutionary Leap, Skullclamp, Sylvan Library, Slate of Ancestry which are great for consistent draw. Regal Force Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury, Harmonize, Elvish Visionary Shamanic Revelation for more burst draw.
