If you are willing to cut down to 2 colors then I would pick a god. Phenax is a good one. He can brought online easily with enchantments like future sight or phrexian's arena if you want. There are some combos available with him and also just in those colors that aren't too hard or expensive to assemble. Lastly, he can give you access to 3 types of win conditions. Combo (which ever one you pick), a reanimator type of beatdown(my favorite) or mill people out(with said fatties).
to recap
- 2 colors = good easy manabase dual land and fetch land free for the $$$
- 5 mana cost means hes not super early but he doesnt need much protecting
- can combo no problem
- has black in the color.
- and there is probably nobody else playing him.
If you dont mind cutting black then another favorite commander of mine is Prime Speaker Zegana. He doesn't need protecting because you dont mind if he dies.
Fatties, counterspells and some solution cards, not much in the combo department but there are some.
I was playing U/W resto angel control and was beating everything except for Lingering souls jund. This caused me to think about playing spirits in Modern. Here is the list I have so far. Any ideas/comments would be helpful. I want to play this at GP toronto unless anything better comes along or this turns out to be trash.
Notes on the deck.
1) A turn 2 Tallowisp can fetch an angelic destiny off a turn 3 drogskol or geist of st traft which presents a decent clock that is hard to disrupt. (A turn 5 kill off of geist.)
2) Being able to tutor up Threads and disfigures vs goyfs and confidants
or detainment spell versus splinter twin are strong plays.
3) Lingering souls wins attrition wars and Drogskol plus image allows you to win lingering souls wars.
4) 2 snaps should be enough to let you replay your removal or hand disruption enough to disrupt what ever deck your against game one.
I want to fit in moorland haunt in the main deck but I'm afraid to have too many colourless lands and I want to keep the ghost quarters.
Does anyone think this could be a viable deck? Is it too slow? What crushes a deck like this?
Thoughts please
Thanks
P.S. The sideboard would look similair to a U/W angel control Sideboard. Stoney Silence Relic of Progenitus etc.
What we experienced was rush play by the nap. After declaring Geist as an attacker, the nap declared No blockers taking the 2 damage while the ap was in the middle of reaching into his deck box for the token. The nap claimed miss trigger and the judge concurred. That to me is a bending of the rules that was not intended. If so we will always need to declare the passing of priority which is just obnoxious.
If you are getting ready for a big tournament there is no point playing an inferior deck because you 'don't have the cards'. You are only going to hurt yourself for testing an us if you post your results here. Just proxy them for now and if the deck is a success, see if you can borrow them from friends and such for the tourney. Better yet, by proxying the jace you can find out if it is needed or not.
While I agree with you Jelstar, it would suck if he topdecked into iona.
Interesting, so far we have one say they would play the seige-gang, the other says they would force the opponent to find an answer first and if they do, then play seige gang.
Also does anybody find this scenario thing useful. I find with my play test group we have different opinions on these game scenarios all the time.
Now if I attack with the lava claw I can deal 5 damage, but if I attack with the ravine it gets better for the subsequent turns.
So which do I attack with?
1) opponent is at 11 life or more
2) opponent is at 10 life or less
3) opponent has a tectonic edge they can use.
4) opponent is white weenie using Day of Judgment
5) opponent is U/W control with Day of Judgment
6) if you have cards in hand, such as broodmate or Siege-Gang would you play those first, or would you take the opportunity to hit with the manland unimpeded.
In testing I have found nature's spiral to be very effective. Almost all of the deck's cards are permanents which makes the card virtually a regrowth, but more importantly it gives you selective reach, by bringing back the key cards you need in certain matchups. Tectonic edge for example.
Although it maybe hard to find room for 2 of them, it has been well worth it so far in my experience.
I cut one of a Nissa revane and one of the Nissa's chosen
For the most part I never needed to tutor up all 4 copies of Nissa's chosen
I wonder how the person who paid 5 - 700 dollars for their lotus is going to feel about Johnny who just pulled his in a pack of Zendikar. Everything about this is just wrong. Half my friends buy packs already because it feels like gambling; opening up the pack hoping for a good rare. How many packs are people going to buy now that they are hoping to get a alpha or beta card etc.
I just read the rulings on Vampire Aristocrat and Vein Drinker, and it looks like if we use Vein Drinker's ability, and then sacrifice the targeted creature with Vampire Aristocrat, we'll get the +2/+2 for Vampire Aristocrat as well as a +1/+1 counter for Vein Drinker.
Negative, the vein drinker will either do its damage to the creature and get a +1 counter or the creature will be sacrificed and the aristocrat will get +2 +2, but not both
What if you choose to find zero cards with the mirror of fate.
All your goal would be is to sacrifice mirror of fate while you have a wheel of sun and moon in play plus a win con such as a creature or a planeswalker and you could now take infinite turns with wheel and walk.
there is a 1g enchantment that lets you stack the top of your library when you play a creature spell, it would work well to play the dijnn then on next upkeep activate him to play w/e other spell you put on top, say and ultimatum or projen or w/e

I had a judge and a head judge at a PTQ say otherwise.

My question comes from a game situation.
Scenario: I am playing against a deck with Day of Judgment.
He has just played the Day and both of our hands are empty.
He has no manlands he can activate.
I draw a forest, play it and now have in play:
2x forest
1x mountain
1x swamp
1x savage lands
1x Raging Ravine
1x Lavaclaw Reaches
Now if I attack with the lava claw I can deal 5 damage, but if I attack with the ravine it gets better for the subsequent turns.
So which do I attack with?

2) opponent is at 10 life or less

Thanks for the help.
