In your both side goes wrong situation, I would really love to have spectral flight, but sadly we doesn't have blue. Having +2/+2 flying never goes wrong in any situation. If only gryff's boon give +1/+1 and not +1/+0, that missing toughness boost is the reason I don't really want to play it especially if opponent have a flash back lingering soul.

I don't understand the reason why everyone is against of having 3-4 copy of spirit mantle, a turn 2 mantle on a turn 1 bogle result in a 2/2 hexproof unblockable bogle isn't bad IMO.

I usually run 2-3 mantle main board as it is. I've also been running a single copy of Angelic Gift for the 'flying' effect, so I'm very excited to test G. boon in it's place; yes, the card draw is handy, but for 2 mana I feel like it should be buffing our bogle.

This is nothing new, it's a common trait of savvy shippers, that it's not worth the postage to ship until a minimum threshold of points is met, and the easiest way to meet said threshold is by sending multiple smallish cards to a single person. Literally every person I that I know that's on Puca does what you described.

Personally, I don't send unless it's 700 points or more for the total transaction.

Savvy shippers know it, but a lot of receivers forget, and it causes them to confuse "nobody is sending out card X" with "nobody is sending me card X".

Dingy dingy. There's been a lull just this past week, but I haven't had much trouble getting fetches/shocks that are on my Want list. However, I make sure that I also include some other random trade fodder (~50-300 pp/ea) on my list, so folks are more encouraged to make the trade. I've had some great success lately receiving combinations of fetches and Tasigurs from various traders. When multiple people want a card, I'll almost always initiate the trade with whomever is also looking for the most standard and/or bulk cards.

Hey all. Like the title says, I was recently sent 4x 'Revised' Atogs in NM condition and I'm now thinking that they're counterfeits. Keep in mind, I've handled fakes before, so I have a general idea about how they differ. What I'm not sure about is how the manufacturing process differed (if it did at all) between 'Revised' and modern sets.
    My reasons for suspicion:
-Cardstock feels more like a poker/playing card than a Magic card.
-The font has a "shadowed" effect on two of the copies and two don't have the same effect.
-The cards are literally in NM condition; I know this doesn't mean they're fake, but it's not everyday you find pristine copies of cards that old.
-The mana symbol color is noticeably drab and whitish pink.
-The card-backs are much darker than that of modern sets.

Now, I believe that all of these reasons could probably be explained if WoTC used a different printing method or something during that time. Hell, I don't think it would even be worth the effort to counterfeit Atogs. However, I haven't been able to find much information on that topic myself, so I was hoping some of you fine folks would be able to provide some more information? Regardless of the answer, I won't be opening a case simply because 4 Atogs aren't worth the time it would take to get the points back. I'm just curious now and want to get some more information in case an issue like this happens again. I appreciate any insight that you folks may have.

Ok, lets take Birds of Paradise over Noble Hierarch. NH is faster, as it gives a slight T2 boost, but is less consistent in its mana demands. I guess the question is, what instants do you want to use? Control, or pump/evasion? Dispel or Vines of Vastwood? Dismember or Slip Through Space/Tainted Strike?
I'm sure threads exist to discuss these horrible brews. This is the Modern Prices Discussion thread.

Best thing I've read all week.

Hey folks, I'm in the process of building a Suicide Zoo deck and I'd like to know if there's any tips that you can share with somebody who's just picking it up? As far as Modern goes, I've been playing Bogles and Mardu Burn for a while, but I came across this build and it looks like a lot of fun to play and win with. I'm curious as to how similar this is to a regular zoo build? I'm thinking about incorporating my burn deck in order to make some type of Burn/Suicide Zoo hybrid, but it seems like something that may have already been attempted at this point. I've mostly been interested to see how Eidolon of the great revel would work to help/hinder Death's Shadow and the overall game-plan of Suicide Zoo.

I appreciate the info and any tips that ya'll are able to offer; I'm looking forward to playing the deck this weekend.

Hey Jund/Mardu burn players, has anybody tested Geth's Verdict and/or Dash Hopes? I was skeptical at first, but both cards have been working very well for me out of the SB. One thing you always hear in this Primer is that "letting your opponent choose is bad", but I haven't found that to be true when it comes to Dash Hopes. Two B gets you a straight up counterspell OR a Lava Axe (essentially) at instant speed. Geth's Verdict hasn't been as pivotal of a play, but I've found it to be an outstanding replacement for Crackling Doom. More folks have started to play Bogles at my LGS, so it's necessary to run some form of Edict-removal.

isn't self inflicted wound eseentially better than geth's verdict? anyway, if you're still worried about creatures, there's always pte and searing blaze.

It's definitely effective and worth running out of the side. Actually, one of the reasons for trying Geth's was due to the fact that I wanted something which hit the targets that Wound doesn't; not a problem against Bogles, but problematic in other matchups.

What I'm wondering is what would happen if Wizards finally decided to print an unlimited print run Modern masters at 99 usd all year and just rotate cards in it every year to hit changes in the modern meta. They could pretty much just reprint whatever modern card they wanted in the unlimited MM set, stores could run Modern draft whenever they wanted, and if someone wanted an entry point to eternal formats they could just run modern draft instead of the standard.

This devalues ALL of the cards they'd be printing pretty tremendously.

So, I've seen you (and many many others) make numerous comments about the expense of older formats and how if they were more affordable it would be better for everyone. While I'm not saying that if they were slightly more affordable it wouldn't be better (it would!), if it were downright cheap due to reprints then the game would have died a long time ago. Part of the excitement of magic and the reason that the game has moved so much volume over the years is to the appreciative nature of the products. It's exciting as a young kid to open a mythic rare and have a card that your friends don't. It's exciting as an older player to get to play with a deck that you've saved and worked up to get. These things drive the game forward in a way that I don't think is terribly easy to see, but one that has been absolutely essential to magic's growth and sustainability.

That isn't true. What drives magic in modern is the competitive scene, and they already have ways to make rare printings available to collectors and people that want to pimp out their decks. The excessive pricing on cards helps no one and just makes it worse for both players and wizards alike when they have to ban a card or deck. While this board has supporters for high priced cards, the vast majority of players don't agree at all with the price of modern magic and most downright refuse to play modern because of the cost of entry. And regardless of reprints there will always be expensive cards anyway, just that they will be within reason instead of being out of reach.

What part of that comment isn't true? He's absolutely correct when saying that the game would be dead if Hasbro/WoTC mass produced every single competitive card. An item's perceived value is a very real phenomenon that generates billions of dollars every day across numerous industries. I'd love it if players had more access to format staples, but certainly not if that means reprinting everything into oblivion. As mentioned above, this is what plagues Yugioh and it would drive a significant amount of people away from MTG. The game's perceived value allows players to both compete and feel as though their cards have real, tangible value.

Perceived Value - The worth that a product or service has in the mind of the consumer. The consumer's perceived value of a good or service affects the price that he or she is willing to pay for it. For the most part, consumers are unaware of the true cost of production for the products they buy.

I've been playing this deck for some time now. I might be piloting it wrong, but Kor Spiritdancer rarely makes the difference between winning and losing for me. My experiences have been that if the opponent has removal, it's a wasted 2 mana card. If they don't have removal, chances are we would've won anyway, or another T1 creature would have been almost just as good since we could've started suiting up on T2 with other auras and gained tempo.

I still run 2x Spiritdancer main because it can help break a stale board state, but I'd like to test out other one drops. I'm thinking of testing the following:

    Favored Hoplite
    Burrenton Forge-Tender
    Noble Hierarch
    Honored Hierarch
    Warden of the First Tree
    Young Wolf

Does anyone have any other suggestions for one drops to test out? I know many consider Spiritdancer a staple, I've just personally found her to be somewhat of a win-more or lightning rod.

I agree with your Spiritdancer sentiment, but I don't think any of those proposed alternatives would be much better and some seem like they'd be much worse. I haven't played Noble Hierarch in the deck, but it's the card I'd run if I had to choose an alternative other than Silhana Ledgewalker. Personally, I run 2 Spiritdancer and then 1-2 Ledgewalker in the main. She's great if you can drop a totem armor on her, but like you mentioned, I've also found her to be a lightning rod. Assuming you don't show her game 1 or play her out of the side, you may be able to get her going games 2 & 3 if your opponent sides out their removal. Have you tried running any Ledgewalkers? I've been playing with her the last year or so and I've been pleased with the decision.

So yes, try your hardest to follow the guidelines of others. I'm sure you would like to have your's followed.

By the same token though - I also have the choice not to send you cards if you're going to be way more picky than required by Puca's rules. It's one thing to put into profile enforcement of existing rules (Lord knows we're all having issues with getting SP/MP cards instead of NM), but if you're going to get stingy about how I pack cards - that's a red flag that's going to make me avoid you like the plague. If you're going to complain about packaging up front, what else are you likely to complain about? Furthermore, how are you going to enforce your own "rules" that aren't backed up by Puca's site rules?

Well, that's a win-win then, right? You avoid them because they're picky and they don't end up with a card wrapped in 8 yards of scotch tape. From my experience, there seem to be a ton of puca traders who haven't shipped anything in their lives. I think it's not so much a nitpick thing, but rather traders offering shipping suggestions because they've gotten damaged cards before; that's my personal reasoning anyway. Packaging "guidelines" in the profile [allegedly] make one's trade partner think twice before they toss a Tarmogoyfin a penny sleeve and tape it to the inside of an envelope. There's plenty of times where I don't follow a trader's guideline simply because it's clear that they don't care about packaging so long as their new cards arrive in the same condition in which they were sent.

I ended up trading in my set of verdant catacombs for $50 each in credit, was this a smart choice with eternal masters coming out soon?

I'd probably make that deal. You wouldn't get much more than that in cash once you take out shipping, seller fees, etc. I can certainly see them spiking again if they're not reprinted by this time next year, but then again they *could* be reprinted next month in SOI and have their value plummet. Nobody can tell you if it was a smart choice or not until the enemy fetches are actually reprinted, but I'd say it was a safe play.

What's an appropriate time to open a case when the receiver won't confirm a trade? I sent a trade > 4000 points, so I shipped it in a bubble mailer w/ tracking and provided the receiver with the number. Tracking says they received the trade 4 days ago, but it's been 11 days altogether and I've sent two messages, but I've yet to receive any communication back. I understand that people's lives aren't dedicated to checking their Pucatrade messages, but I'm going to open a case after the 14 days mark since I'm sure the trade was delivered. Thoughts?

Going to GP Detroit next weekend and trying to make some final adjustments. Here's my current list that has done quite well the past couple of months (4-0 at 3 FNM's, a 3-0, and multiple 3-1's):

    Grafdigger's Cage
Mainly for Grishoalbrand decks and Co-Co/Chord decks. I like this being a silverbullet more than Relic right now. However, Relic does help against Goyf and Delve cards (and replaces itself). Either way, this is a card that doesn't deal damage, so maybe just cut it?

I used to run a combo of grafdigger's cage/relic, but never looked back once Rest in Peace was added to the sb. Doesn't stop coco, but stops all graveyard shenanigans.

Why do people think an Inquisition of Kozilek reprint is likely? They just burned their best chance to reprint the card.

Someone might argue that if they didn't use it in Battle for Zendikar block, it means they'll try to put it somewhere else, but people thought the same of Damnation in Modern Masters (and Modern Masters 2!).

Some would also argue that it'd be perfectly reasonable to think IoK could show up in either the next Innistrad block, Eternal Masters, or Modern Masters 2017 (Assuming they continue the trend). Especially considering how loose-lipped folks have been when it comes to leaks, I'm playing it safe on IoK and cashing out before some intern leaks the Eternal Masters reprints.

Hey guys I traded an extra AR-15 I have for about $500 in cards (a buddy that used to play Pod) and am wondering if I should sit or trade/sell on a few of these. Some of the stuff I got that I do not need:

    4x Inquisition of Kozilek
    4x Thoughtseize (Theros)
    4x Steam Vents
    2x Windswept Heath
    2x Temple Garden

These are all things I already have playsets of. Everything else I got was the old Pod list except for Voices and Nobles.

Do you all think the cards I listed will go up or is now a good time to dump them?

Personally, I'd definitely keep fetches, sit on the shocks & Thoughtseizes for a bit and dump the IoKs. Shocks won't spike anytime soon, but it's likely that they won't be reprinted either, so their value should gradually increase. WoTC/Hasbro's reluctance to produce high demand reprints may prove otherwise, but it appears that IoK is primed for a reprint, so I'm keeping a playset and cashing out on the rest. It really is a risk/reward card however; if it's not reprinted in Eternal Masters/SOI/anytime within the next 6 months or so, then I'd definitely expect it to spike hard.
