It's usually the smelly ones who don't notice it. It also appears that you don't notice sarcasm either. Poor little guy.
TLDR: When you're butthurt about people being butthurt about other people being butthurt, you're just an idiot.

Nov 6, 2015Joban8 posted a message on The Magic Street Journal: How to Handle "That Guy"Posted in: ArticlesQuote from Klamsmith »This isn't a platform for your victim complex. The article was fine until the phrase "The elephant in the room is women and minorities playing Magic in unwelcoming areas" where your article turns into the great plight facing women in gaming. Three of my good magic friends are homosexual we play magic at three different venues regularly. There are several female regulars we see and play with as well and if someone says something degrading to them they wouldn't hesitate to call them out on it, they don't expect a white knight to save them. The thing is "That Guy" is already reguarded as an a-hole wherever he is. Stereotypes exist thats the cold hard truth it's your job to change that perspective. This article shouldn't be about what I have to do as a player if I see BS I'm calling BS on someone acting like an a-hole. It shouldn't be about what a judge should do or what a store owner should do they already understand what needs to be done. It should be about helping women change that stigma of "just being there for their boyfriend" and "not understanding how to play". My wife plays magic with me as well the only time anyone said anything to her was two years ago when she boomerranged a guys first and second attempt at putting a land into play at fnm. Who just ended up rage quitting and leaving the store after she called him out. So yes magic has a number of "That Guys" who are the internet trolls of real life and the number one rule is don't feed the trolls.
Tldr: Defend yourself from the beta's at the magic shop.
Bravo, my friend. This starting off fairly interesting until it turned into a soap box for political correctness. "That" guy certainly exists, but it's not a given that all ********s are racist/sexist/transphobic/other labels that you're trying to push. Stereotypes exist and they're not going away. I'm a man who's dating a transgender woman, but I don't get butthurt when we play with our group of friends and they crack an off-color joke every now and then. It's called humor and it's a two-way street; she gets in on the banter and gives it right back. I completely understand that when you're playing at an FNM or casual event with new players, these kinds of comments and jokes are uncalled for and simply make you an ********. However, in the comfort of your own playgroup, with people you know, what's the problem? Because chances are that if a player can't take a mild joke then they're not somebody I'd want in my playgroup. Everybody has their own insecurities and joking about them with others is a great way to find acceptance. You want to write a piece about social problems affecting LGSs? Investigate the poor hygiene that's exhibited by, unfortunately, a large number of players; I find that to be a much more influential factor affecting the experiences of new players...unless of course it's rude to stereotype people who suffer from alblutophobia? - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
I usually run 2-3 mantle main board as it is. I've also been running a single copy of Angelic Gift for the 'flying' effect, so I'm very excited to test G. boon in it's place; yes, the card draw is handy, but for 2 mana I feel like it should be buffing our bogle.
Dingy dingy. There's been a lull just this past week, but I haven't had much trouble getting fetches/shocks that are on my Want list. However, I make sure that I also include some other random trade fodder (~50-300 pp/ea) on my list, so folks are more encouraged to make the trade. I've had some great success lately receiving combinations of fetches and Tasigurs from various traders. When multiple people want a card, I'll almost always initiate the trade with whomever is also looking for the most standard and/or bulk cards.
My reasons for suspicion:
-Cardstock feels more like a poker/playing card than a Magic card.
-The font has a "shadowed" effect on two of the copies and two don't have the same effect.
-The cards are literally in NM condition; I know this doesn't mean they're fake, but it's not everyday you find pristine copies of cards that old.
-The mana symbol color is noticeably drab and whitish pink.
-The card-backs are much darker than that of modern sets.
Now, I believe that all of these reasons could probably be explained if WoTC used a different printing method or something during that time. Hell, I don't think it would even be worth the effort to counterfeit Atogs. However, I haven't been able to find much information on that topic myself, so I was hoping some of you fine folks would be able to provide some more information? Regardless of the answer, I won't be opening a case simply because 4 Atogs aren't worth the time it would take to get the points back. I'm just curious now and want to get some more information in case an issue like this happens again. I appreciate any insight that you folks may have.
Best thing I've read all week.
I appreciate the info and any tips that ya'll are able to offer; I'm looking forward to playing the deck this weekend.
It's definitely effective and worth running out of the side. Actually, one of the reasons for trying Geth's was due to the fact that I wanted something which hit the targets that Wound doesn't; not a problem against Bogles, but problematic in other matchups.
What part of that comment isn't true? He's absolutely correct when saying that the game would be dead if Hasbro/WoTC mass produced every single competitive card. An item's perceived value is a very real phenomenon that generates billions of dollars every day across numerous industries. I'd love it if players had more access to format staples, but certainly not if that means reprinting everything into oblivion. As mentioned above, this is what plagues Yugioh and it would drive a significant amount of people away from MTG. The game's perceived value allows players to both compete and feel as though their cards have real, tangible value.
Perceived Value - The worth that a product or service has in the mind of the consumer. The consumer's perceived value of a good or service affects the price that he or she is willing to pay for it. For the most part, consumers are unaware of the true cost of production for the products they buy.
I agree with your Spiritdancer sentiment, but I don't think any of those proposed alternatives would be much better and some seem like they'd be much worse. I haven't played Noble Hierarch in the deck, but it's the card I'd run if I had to choose an alternative other than Silhana Ledgewalker. Personally, I run 2 Spiritdancer and then 1-2 Ledgewalker in the main. She's great if you can drop a totem armor on her, but like you mentioned, I've also found her to be a lightning rod. Assuming you don't show her game 1 or play her out of the side, you may be able to get her going games 2 & 3 if your opponent sides out their removal. Have you tried running any Ledgewalkers? I've been playing with her the last year or so and I've been pleased with the decision.
Well, that's a win-win then, right? You avoid them because they're picky and they don't end up with a card wrapped in 8 yards of scotch tape. From my experience, there seem to be a ton of puca traders who haven't shipped anything in their lives. I think it's not so much a nitpick thing, but rather traders offering shipping suggestions because they've gotten damaged cards before; that's my personal reasoning anyway. Packaging "guidelines" in the profile [allegedly] make one's trade partner think twice before they toss a Tarmogoyfin a penny sleeve and tape it to the inside of an envelope. There's plenty of times where I don't follow a trader's guideline simply because it's clear that they don't care about packaging so long as their new cards arrive in the same condition in which they were sent.
I'd probably make that deal. You wouldn't get much more than that in cash once you take out shipping, seller fees, etc. I can certainly see them spiking again if they're not reprinted by this time next year, but then again they *could* be reprinted next month in SOI and have their value plummet. Nobody can tell you if it was a smart choice or not until the enemy fetches are actually reprinted, but I'd say it was a safe play.
I used to run a combo of grafdigger's cage/relic, but never looked back once Rest in Peace was added to the sb. Doesn't stop coco, but stops all graveyard shenanigans.
Some would also argue that it'd be perfectly reasonable to think IoK could show up in either the next Innistrad block, Eternal Masters, or Modern Masters 2017 (Assuming they continue the trend). Especially considering how loose-lipped folks have been when it comes to leaks, I'm playing it safe on IoK and cashing out before some intern leaks the Eternal Masters reprints.
Personally, I'd definitely keep fetches, sit on the shocks & Thoughtseizes for a bit and dump the IoKs. Shocks won't spike anytime soon, but it's likely that they won't be reprinted either, so their value should gradually increase. WoTC/Hasbro's reluctance to produce high demand reprints may prove otherwise, but it appears that IoK is primed for a reprint, so I'm keeping a playset and cashing out on the rest. It really is a risk/reward card however; if it's not reprinted in Eternal Masters/SOI/anytime within the next 6 months or so, then I'd definitely expect it to spike hard.
