Fair criticisms, but advocating players to stop playing it altogether is a bit rash, especially considering the rate at which WoTC has been pumping out new sets. If Aether Revolt (or literally any other future modern-legal set) introduces an all-star aura then it could theoretically catapult the deck to tier 1 or broken; every new set is an opportunity to improve the deck and it's more or less just a matter of time.

I've put all my eggs in the no-goyf basket as far as MM17 is concerned and have been picking up any I can get under $90 on eBay. However, considering Hasbro's WoTC's decision to go loco with the reprints lately, I wouldn't be surprised to see MM17 chock full of value. We'll find out here pretty soon.

im so happy someone else is running griffs boon I run it as a three of main board and it works wonders for me , especially against affinity when they have so many signal pests and vault skirges and ornithopters having a second way to get flying/reach with gryffs boon in addition to spider umbra is amazing

A 3 of Gryff's Boon is far too much, imo. It's not that great of a card, especially since ithe ONLY gives you +1/0 and Flying.

You have the Spider Umbra and Spirit Mantle to get past creatures already and flying shouldn't be that much of an issue, if you have a proper good hand and you're explosive enough.

I even dropped my 1 of Gryff's Boon and switched it for MB Gaddock Teeg.

I find Gryff's boon to be a tricky one... When you have a small bogle it is not necessarily the most impactful however it does enable early swings if the opponent has no fliers. It also seems like one of the best cards for Kor Spiritdancer. I will say it is likely more powerful in an open the armory build - I have won a few games on 3 mana where I OTA, apply gryff's boon and win. The key thing here is that none of the other evasion enchantments in the deck cost 1 mana so Gryff's Boon is often one of the best OTA plays if you need to tutor and cast it and win this turn. All that said, against decks like esper tokens and other things with copious flyers that are not infect and affinity, the gryff's boons are among the first cuts when sideboarding. My list currently plays 3 Gryff's Boon but I will probably go to 2 to make room for at least 1 more spirit mantle in my deck as that card seems to be so impactful especially during stalls.

Also, I have been running 2 OTA and it is unclear just how good the card is. It lets you go a bit more tool-boxey which can be important but it does seem a shade slow to me.

I'd agree with you on both cards. I run a single Boon along with 2 OTA and that's a big reason why I continue to run OTA, because it gives you a situational tool box. Cards like Boon and Unflinching Courage aren't things I'd want to run multiples of, but I can justify running singles if I'm playing with OTA. The only instances when it feels like a complete waste of space is when I have two in an opening hand.

I always enjoy reading your Bogles tourney reports and analysis; I'm curious if you ever tried Open the Armory and your thoughts/experience with it? You might've mentioned it once everybody else was experimenting with it, but I don't recall. My list is pretty identical to yours save for x2 OtA and 3 Leyline rather than 4 (+1 Path in SB).

i have some more burn laying around in case the meta changes.
how do you feel about self inflicted wound and crackling doom.

Mardu is my burn of choice and both self-inflicted wound and crackling doom come up big for me out of the SB. Unless it's a meta-specific choice, I'd drop the rain of gore. I ran it for a while, but found it to be underwhelming in the majority of popular matchups.

A couple of questions on prices:

    - Do you think it's likely they'll reprint Grove of the Burnwillow in MM-2017? If they don't, will the price of this card go up? Deciding if I should buy them now or wait
    - Same question on Snapcaster Mage. Is it possible that only Lili and Goyf get reprinted and Snapcaster's price will go up?
    - It's not an expensive card, but do you think Eldrazi Temple is at its ceiling at $6.50? Am deciding if I should sell my playset now and repurchase later

    1. I wouldn't be surprised to see Grove and/or Horizon Canopy reprinted in MM17
    2. It's absolutely possible, but (imo) highly improbable.
    3. It's relatively expensive when you consider it was reprinted as uncommon in MM15. Assuming it's not printed again in MM17, I'd expect its price to continue rising so long as it sees the same amount of play or more.

I also think it makes it more unlikely that fetches are in Amonkhet. They're not going to make the same fetch + fetchable dual land mistake twice (are they?).

That was my initial line of reasoning for why they wouldn't be in the set; I was fully expecting the Hasbro puppet masters to use enemy fetches as a silver bullet for whenever shareholders got unhappy and they needed hype and a guaranteed sales boost. However, now that Priceless Treasures will be a regular thing, I'm not so sure that strategy would be as successful as it could've been.

Something to note is that aside from bans, there is ever constant pressure on modern to become faster and more consistent across the board as the card pool broadens. It's just a natural effect of a larger card pool. The fastlands will ALWAYS be relevant after we reach a certain point in deck building where we don't want to see more than 3 lands. They become the best land in that scenario for dual color decks (excluding things like delve).

With spirits making splashes locally and at PPTQs I snatched up a playset of botanical sanctum (UG) and seachrome coast from scars (UW). The deck is only a handful of cards off of being a competitive headache for tons of stuff in the format.

After seeing the price trajectory of blackcleave cliffs (RB) due to jund, I've set out to acquire a playset of all 10. The lands are just crazy good if you're running a modest manabase with a light splash for your support colors.

I don't really see them drifting below the $2 mark even post rotation. The GB and BW ones were already a pretty bid deal for decks like modern Abzan. In UR delver/pyro decks the UR one is a no brainer. Infect only wants 1-2 copies of the UG now, but if become immense gets axed it gets a ton more attractive as someone else said. The RW is at an odd place because the color pair tends to be on the weaker end in the eternal formats (plateau price is laughable compared to anything blue for legacy duals, for example, because there are so few decks on it).

That's a lot of applications out of the gate. Aside from standard demand, which is going to continue driving (heh) the price of RW vehicles fastland and keeping it up with the others.

I don't think there was doubt that they'd see Modern play, but the price will remain steady as long as they're in standard rotation. Personally, none of my modern decks require/benefit from the new fastlands, so I'll probably pick up playsets post-rotation when they'll inevitably drop. Blackleave Cliffs is the standout from the original fastlands as far as price/amount of play goes, but you can get playsets of the others for under $20. Scars came out six years ago, so I'd be shocked if any of these hold significant price points post-rotation, for the next few years anyway.

I want damnation reprinted because it's only had one printing. I want LotV reprinted because it's $100 and played in every format except standard. Same with snapcaster mate except he's only about $50.

Is that Snapcaster Mage's Australian pal?

What does everyone think is going to happen to the new fastlands? I am looking at Blooming Marsh in particular.

Also, I see Grim Flayer sitting at around $17-$20. Given that it has just started its run in Standard, do we think it is going to sit at that price for a while?

I'm planning on picking up fastlands whenever they drop below $1-$2. There will be a ton of them floating around as more product is opened.

Has anyone tried Dromoka's command in the main or side? I was thinking of replacing my natural state and seal of primordium with it.

I ran two copies in the side for a month or two and it wasn't anything to write home about. I seem to ALWAYS get deflecting palm'd when I play burn, so it was handy for that matchup, but otherwise it was pretty average. In regards to natural state, I'd replace it with nature's claim (assuming you're not already running them).

What does PT need to boost up trades????? This is the slowest I have EVER seen. I have been a top trader on the site for 2 years now. I have a good sized "wants" list & about ~4,600 points floating around.

In the past, this would NEVER happen. My points would fly off the shelves. This is really disheartening.

Sift through the last 50 pages or so and it will barely scratch the surface of what PT needs to do in order to re-gain user confidence. I traded my fair share between 2014 and May of this year, but I finally gave up after all the uncertainty surrounding points. I used to have luck with desirable cards getting sent to me b/c I'd have a ton of EDH/casual cards on my wants as well, so I'd get multiple cards at a time. Then bounties became a thing and I continued to send/receive staples as a free user because I made deals to confirm different editions, cards, etc (e.g. receiving a Gatecrash shock, but confirming a Ravnica one, so the different would technically be the "bounty"). Trading got increasingly more difficult and I finally called it quits before the bubble burst and there's a day when I log on and find out my points are worthless. Ultimately, the decision to quit was partly made considering my personal experience and the feedback/concerns of other users from this thread, Reddit, etc. Once people start to lose confidence, it's a slippery slope and the mindset can be contagious.

Full disclaimer: I'm naive to the topic, but would it be possible for PT to operate with bitcoin? If puca points could be exchanged for bitcoin or anything or real world value, I'd have more confidence in the system and much more inclined to send cards again.

Would it be a good time to cash out unused modern staples? I have some enemy fetches and things like Goblin Guide that may get reprinted soon. I intend to buy some of the reprints in Conspiracy2 and Eternal Masters.
Modern prices seems stable to me, but I have not been actively playing for a long while, so I may be mistaken. Do you guys thing that we are a stable point, and the overall price of staples will only go down?

I've been liquidating most non-foil staples if I have more than a play set. However, that's only because I'm paranoid Hasbro will eventually go loco with special re-print sets, expeditions in every block, etc and tank the market. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm moving everything I don't need into sealed product/legacy staples.

And bounties are NOT the problem that has led to people not sending cards. A loss of faith in the site largely in part due to the devaluation of the pucapoint is the problem. The bounties are a symptom of the problem. What happens when a currency is devalued? It requires more of that currency to attain the goods that you're looking for, therefore bounties.

But the ability to send points and use bounties is a feature exclusive to the premium membership. So the currency may be devalued to the point of requiring more of it to achieve trades between the premium members - but it's devalued to the point of being absolutely worthless to the nonpremium members (they can't get cards sent to them at all anymore, in a market where for every card that a nonpremium member wants, there exists a premium member who is willing to pay bounty for it). And without the nonpremium members moving cards, things get worse for the currency, because the volume of trading required to sustain the economy is greatly diminished.

Bounties (those 5% bonuses people were offering occasionally a year or two ago) didn't start because people lost faith in the value of the pucapoint, so much as they started because people wanted to jump the queue - they didn't want to have an equal chance waiting along with 200 other people hoping they'd be chosen when someone has their card to send, they wanted to give people reason to prefer them over the 199 others, and were willing to take an incremental hit and pay a premium to be the preferred receiver. It was only once that caught on (and was not nipped in the bud as the cancerous problem it was) that more and more premium members started using it and one-upping one another (because they had to to not fall behind and become ignored themselves), and the nonpremiums were left with unredeemable points. And THAT'S when and why the economy went in the crapper - because the movable card supply dried up once the nonpremiums were out of the running.

Bounties aren't just a symptom of the failing pucapoint. They're the catalyst for it.

You're basically describing free-market trade. Completely eliminate whatever Dr. Seuss algorithm they use or use it as a "suggested" point value, and allow ALL users the ability to set prices. Eventually it would become a free market where card values are dependent on buyer/sellers; they'd have to stop selling points for real currency, but god forbid they earn less revenue rather than being forced to shut down.

That pretty much defeats the point of PucaTrade completely. Now you would have just another trade site where everyone else's cards are worth more than yours, and everyone is a 'dealer'...exactly what PucaTrade aimed to do away with. You were not supposed to have to haggle over card values.

Of course, bounties already go against that premise anyways, so yeah...

What they need to do is get rid of bounties altogether. Members should not have the ability to send points. That was really only an option to deal with lesser condition cards before they were supported to my knowledge, and should no longer be needed.

To address the value of the PucaPoint in the long run what they really need to do is tightly control the creation of new points. Just like how the U.S. Mint can't just print money on demand, PucaTrade should not just allow new points to flood the system...we've already seen how that has devalued the PucaPoint currently. Obviously, they would need to introduce some new points occasionally, but they should do away with allowing the purchase of point for money and eliminate (or at least drastically reduce) the point bonus for signing up. Advertising could help pay for the developer's time and server hosting and would take the place of revenue from the sale of points. Premium member benefits could include being ad free to encourage sign up.

I'm not done with PucaTrade yet, since I believe that it is still can be saved. For now, I am going to just keep my points under 3,000 or so and hope they figure it out.

What's wrong with that? That's how free-market competition works. Dealers want solid profit margins, so say Timmy undercuts said dealer and the dealer doesn't get the sale/trade. I couldn't imagine it being a wild west free-for-all with no set standards, but pricing guidelines and the ability to change that price by +/-X% would encourage competitive pricing IMO.
