It's usually the smelly ones who don't notice it. It also appears that you don't notice sarcasm either. Poor little guy.
TLDR: When you're butthurt about people being butthurt about other people being butthurt, you're just an idiot.

Nov 6, 2015Joban8 posted a message on The Magic Street Journal: How to Handle "That Guy"Posted in: ArticlesQuote from Klamsmith »This isn't a platform for your victim complex. The article was fine until the phrase "The elephant in the room is women and minorities playing Magic in unwelcoming areas" where your article turns into the great plight facing women in gaming. Three of my good magic friends are homosexual we play magic at three different venues regularly. There are several female regulars we see and play with as well and if someone says something degrading to them they wouldn't hesitate to call them out on it, they don't expect a white knight to save them. The thing is "That Guy" is already reguarded as an a-hole wherever he is. Stereotypes exist thats the cold hard truth it's your job to change that perspective. This article shouldn't be about what I have to do as a player if I see BS I'm calling BS on someone acting like an a-hole. It shouldn't be about what a judge should do or what a store owner should do they already understand what needs to be done. It should be about helping women change that stigma of "just being there for their boyfriend" and "not understanding how to play". My wife plays magic with me as well the only time anyone said anything to her was two years ago when she boomerranged a guys first and second attempt at putting a land into play at fnm. Who just ended up rage quitting and leaving the store after she called him out. So yes magic has a number of "That Guys" who are the internet trolls of real life and the number one rule is don't feed the trolls.
Tldr: Defend yourself from the beta's at the magic shop.
Bravo, my friend. This starting off fairly interesting until it turned into a soap box for political correctness. "That" guy certainly exists, but it's not a given that all ********s are racist/sexist/transphobic/other labels that you're trying to push. Stereotypes exist and they're not going away. I'm a man who's dating a transgender woman, but I don't get butthurt when we play with our group of friends and they crack an off-color joke every now and then. It's called humor and it's a two-way street; she gets in on the banter and gives it right back. I completely understand that when you're playing at an FNM or casual event with new players, these kinds of comments and jokes are uncalled for and simply make you an ********. However, in the comfort of your own playgroup, with people you know, what's the problem? Because chances are that if a player can't take a mild joke then they're not somebody I'd want in my playgroup. Everybody has their own insecurities and joking about them with others is a great way to find acceptance. You want to write a piece about social problems affecting LGSs? Investigate the poor hygiene that's exhibited by, unfortunately, a large number of players; I find that to be a much more influential factor affecting the experiences of new players...unless of course it's rude to stereotype people who suffer from alblutophobia? - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
Fair criticisms, but advocating players to stop playing it altogether is a bit rash, especially considering the rate at which WoTC has been pumping out new sets. If Aether Revolt (or literally any other future modern-legal set) introduces an all-star aura then it could theoretically catapult the deck to tier 1 or broken; every new set is an opportunity to improve the deck and it's more or less just a matter of time.
Hasbro'sWoTC's decision to go loco with the reprints lately, I wouldn't be surprised to see MM17 chock full of value. We'll find out here pretty soon.I'd agree with you on both cards. I run a single Boon along with 2 OTA and that's a big reason why I continue to run OTA, because it gives you a situational tool box. Cards like Boon and Unflinching Courage aren't things I'd want to run multiples of, but I can justify running singles if I'm playing with OTA. The only instances when it feels like a complete waste of space is when I have two in an opening hand.
I always enjoy reading your Bogles tourney reports and analysis; I'm curious if you ever tried Open the Armory and your thoughts/experience with it? You might've mentioned it once everybody else was experimenting with it, but I don't recall. My list is pretty identical to yours save for x2 OtA and 3 Leyline rather than 4 (+1 Path in SB).
Mardu is my burn of choice and both self-inflicted wound and crackling doom come up big for me out of the SB. Unless it's a meta-specific choice, I'd drop the rain of gore. I ran it for a while, but found it to be underwhelming in the majority of popular matchups.
1. I wouldn't be surprised to see Grove and/or Horizon Canopy reprinted in MM17
2. It's absolutely possible, but (imo) highly improbable.
3. It's relatively expensive when you consider it was reprinted as uncommon in MM15. Assuming it's not printed again in MM17, I'd expect its price to continue rising so long as it sees the same amount of play or more.
That was my initial line of reasoning for why they wouldn't be in the set; I was fully expecting the Hasbro puppet masters to use enemy fetches as a silver bullet for whenever shareholders got unhappy and they needed hype and a guaranteed sales boost. However, now that Priceless Treasures will be a regular thing, I'm not so sure that strategy would be as successful as it could've been.
I don't think there was doubt that they'd see Modern play, but the price will remain steady as long as they're in standard rotation. Personally, none of my modern decks require/benefit from the new fastlands, so I'll probably pick up playsets post-rotation when they'll inevitably drop. Blackleave Cliffs is the standout from the original fastlands as far as price/amount of play goes, but you can get playsets of the others for under $20. Scars came out six years ago, so I'd be shocked if any of these hold significant price points post-rotation, for the next few years anyway.
Is that Snapcaster Mage's Australian pal?
I'm planning on picking up fastlands whenever they drop below $1-$2. There will be a ton of them floating around as more product is opened.
I ran two copies in the side for a month or two and it wasn't anything to write home about. I seem to ALWAYS get deflecting palm'd when I play burn, so it was handy for that matchup, but otherwise it was pretty average. In regards to natural state, I'd replace it with nature's claim (assuming you're not already running them).
Sift through the last 50 pages or so and it will barely scratch the surface of what PT needs to do in order to re-gain user confidence. I traded my fair share between 2014 and May of this year, but I finally gave up after all the uncertainty surrounding points. I used to have luck with desirable cards getting sent to me b/c I'd have a ton of EDH/casual cards on my wants as well, so I'd get multiple cards at a time. Then bounties became a thing and I continued to send/receive staples as a free user because I made deals to confirm different editions, cards, etc (e.g. receiving a Gatecrash shock, but confirming a Ravnica one, so the different would technically be the "bounty"). Trading got increasingly more difficult and I finally called it quits before the bubble burst and there's a day when I log on and find out my points are worthless. Ultimately, the decision to quit was partly made considering my personal experience and the feedback/concerns of other users from this thread, Reddit, etc. Once people start to lose confidence, it's a slippery slope and the mindset can be contagious.
Full disclaimer: I'm naive to the topic, but would it be possible for PT to operate with bitcoin? If puca points could be exchanged for bitcoin or anything or real world value, I'd have more confidence in the system and much more inclined to send cards again.
I've been liquidating most non-foil staples if I have more than a play set. However, that's only because I'm paranoid Hasbro will eventually go loco with special re-print sets, expeditions in every block, etc and tank the market. Hope I'm wrong, but I'm moving everything I don't need into sealed product/legacy staples.
What's wrong with that? That's how free-market competition works. Dealers want solid profit margins, so say Timmy undercuts said dealer and the dealer doesn't get the sale/trade. I couldn't imagine it being a wild west free-for-all with no set standards, but pricing guidelines and the ability to change that price by +/-X% would encourage competitive pricing IMO.
You're basically describing free-market trade. Completely eliminate whatever Dr. Seuss algorithm they use or use it as a "suggested" point value, and allow ALL users the ability to set prices. Eventually it would become a free market where card values are dependent on buyer/sellers; they'd have to stop selling points for real currency, but god forbid they earn less revenue rather than being forced to shut down.
