It's usually the smelly ones who don't notice it. It also appears that you don't notice sarcasm either. Poor little guy.
TLDR: When you're butthurt about people being butthurt about other people being butthurt, you're just an idiot.

Nov 6, 2015Joban8 posted a message on The Magic Street Journal: How to Handle "That Guy"Posted in: ArticlesQuote from Klamsmith »This isn't a platform for your victim complex. The article was fine until the phrase "The elephant in the room is women and minorities playing Magic in unwelcoming areas" where your article turns into the great plight facing women in gaming. Three of my good magic friends are homosexual we play magic at three different venues regularly. There are several female regulars we see and play with as well and if someone says something degrading to them they wouldn't hesitate to call them out on it, they don't expect a white knight to save them. The thing is "That Guy" is already reguarded as an a-hole wherever he is. Stereotypes exist thats the cold hard truth it's your job to change that perspective. This article shouldn't be about what I have to do as a player if I see BS I'm calling BS on someone acting like an a-hole. It shouldn't be about what a judge should do or what a store owner should do they already understand what needs to be done. It should be about helping women change that stigma of "just being there for their boyfriend" and "not understanding how to play". My wife plays magic with me as well the only time anyone said anything to her was two years ago when she boomerranged a guys first and second attempt at putting a land into play at fnm. Who just ended up rage quitting and leaving the store after she called him out. So yes magic has a number of "That Guys" who are the internet trolls of real life and the number one rule is don't feed the trolls.
Tldr: Defend yourself from the beta's at the magic shop.
Bravo, my friend. This starting off fairly interesting until it turned into a soap box for political correctness. "That" guy certainly exists, but it's not a given that all ********s are racist/sexist/transphobic/other labels that you're trying to push. Stereotypes exist and they're not going away. I'm a man who's dating a transgender woman, but I don't get butthurt when we play with our group of friends and they crack an off-color joke every now and then. It's called humor and it's a two-way street; she gets in on the banter and gives it right back. I completely understand that when you're playing at an FNM or casual event with new players, these kinds of comments and jokes are uncalled for and simply make you an ********. However, in the comfort of your own playgroup, with people you know, what's the problem? Because chances are that if a player can't take a mild joke then they're not somebody I'd want in my playgroup. Everybody has their own insecurities and joking about them with others is a great way to find acceptance. You want to write a piece about social problems affecting LGSs? Investigate the poor hygiene that's exhibited by, unfortunately, a large number of players; I find that to be a much more influential factor affecting the experiences of new players...unless of course it's rude to stereotype people who suffer from alblutophobia? - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
If this set gives the format a 1-drop version of Open the Armory then On Thin Ice might get some play in Bogles, but as-is it's just too clunky. Even for a deck that benefits from the fact its sorcery speed.
Hmm. Yeah, awkward seems like a perfect word to describe this one. I don't think the slim chance of an opponent having a way to destroy basics is much of concern, but it's more so the logistics as you mentioned. I'm always up for testing an enchantment with some potential just to try and squeeze out max value from ethereal armor, but not sure the the best way to go about it. Maybe up the fetch count a few and try a 2/2 MB split? Either way I know trying to play this would temp me to give Open the Armory yet another chance and that's always just a road of disappointment.
I think the pre-order prices for horizon lands will stay in that range until release. Guessing when they'll bottom out is tricky as they're brand new, but the fact that they're printed at rare should limit any kind of extreme price gouging once adequate supplies hit the market. IMO prices will likely remain elevated for at least 2-6 weeks following release due to 1) Every modern player who's trying to buy a set to play with ASAP & 2) WotC's method of allocating new sets in a way that satisfies pre-orders, but creates artificial scarcity during the period between release and the second wave of product hitting shelves.
Demand will likely be through the roof initially as I'd imagine most decks will want to a full set and there will be some players looking to buy sets for multiple decks. However, that sort of demand will naturally drive more boxes to be opened and supply should theoretically meet demand at some point in time. Personally, I'll likely pick up the ones I need for current decks once/if I see them below $15/ea. I'd like to have a set of each simply due to the convenience of owning modern real estate for future brews, but I'm going to wait it out and hope there's enough supply to eventually drive them below/around $10-$12.
Not fun to see in your opening hand, but maybe it has a place in the SB?
Agreed on Pillage. That along with Wren and Six have gotten me interested in dusting off the ol Ponza deck.
But every pack comes with a full-art snow basic...
Prices of canopy have been falling since the cycle was spoiled and I'd imagine they'll only continue to drop; might plateau a bit in the weeks between end of spoilers and MH release, but once the new horizon lands are actually available and decks currently playing canopy can ditch it to optimize colors, its stock will bottom out. Lands that produce/fetch G/W have typically been the cheapest in their given cycles (Savannah, Windswept Heath,Razorverge Thicket,Temple Garden, etc). Additionally Canopy has now been printed what, three times including the expedition? IMO, anyone who has canopies should dump them ASAP. My Bogles deck runs a playset and will continue to do so as they're on-color, but I still sold my set once the cycle was announced; I don't see a scenario where I wouldn't be able to rebuy them for much less once MH is released.
Yikes. Somebody should've told that to the shmuck who came up with the set name.
If it was marketability they were after, putting 'Modern' into the title probably wasn't the best choice. Is it ignorant to think yearly Commander products strictly cater to EDH?
How is that a melodramatic take? I didn't want counterspell in the set, but I too think the spoilers have been underwhelming thus far. Wotc hyped up the set, emphasizing the point that it's a set for Modern players and includes new/existing cards that will help bolster fledgling archetypes and more or less stabilize the format. Based on what we've seen thus far, the only inclusions that seem likely to make an impact across the board is the horizon land cycle. Otherwise the first half of the set looks like an EDH wet dream with campy nods to old cards and un-tested variations of existing cards that R&D hope will function similar to the card being imitated. Just give us the goddamn original and reprint it into the format. All of these imitation cards with intended-functions are just unknown variables which are as likely to succeed as they are to fail. If the main priority was format health wotc would've just reprinted the cards they have concrete data on rather than taking a shot in the dark hoping their imitations will serve the same purpose. I'm digging the sliver love and bolstering of goblin tribal, but then they waste x slots attempting to make bear tribal a thing and it makes one wonder just what the hell they're trying to do here.
