Fails the Dismember-test. (Bolt is soo pre-OGW).

Except it can still be flipped in response, making for an even bigger swing in life.

At thsi rate almsot every rare and mythic will be expensive...

While it is bad for secondary markets, this really is a good way for wizards to get around the dreaded price tag cards fetch on the secondary market. Limited has been their bread and butter of late, and printing more value in the Mythic and Rare slots persuades more players to draft than just buy singletons. Now, if they can print these types of cards in all colors and costs, it will create a more diverse standard format instead of babyjace.dec vs. Gideon.dec.

In standard you could flash it in save your dudes, sac a scion, next upkeep eldrazi displacer it in response to the wipe trigger?

Obviously depending on your boardstate but a neat trick nonetheless.

That's solid tech, but I'd rather take the potential 9 point life swing over protecting my board-state.

WotC also strap a significant downside (that almost everyone seems to enjoy) on it so the card doesn't become bustly overpower in the Standard format next to Gideon and Nissa planeswalker's form.
Just to clarify, what downside are you referring to?

I'm referring to the fact that this card is a double egded sword. When it's already onto the battlefield, it prevent you from building your own board with anything that has less than 4 thoughness upon pain of being 2 for 1 at your end step (and consequently at your opponent upkeep).

Except when creatures you control die is an upside, Zulaport Cutthorat, Blood artist, Falkenrath Noble. This card is as close to an "all-in" finisher as you can get, in the right build of course.

    Blue Tarmogoyf.

If it was "cast non-creature spell" to remove a counter, it would be better than 'goyf.

That's why you'd presumably run a ton of blue instants and sorceries. You know, counterspells and the like.

Also, don't expect 4-color rally to be even a blip on the radar after fetchlands rotate.

And maindeck Spellskites, since it protects both forms, and survives the evacuation since it's a Horror.

    Horror tribal, the anti-Eldrazi lol.

This will be left up to discussion, but, if this finds a home in modern (and I think it will, as it passes the majority of tests-Boltproof, combat shenanigans, finisher on its own.) you can probably forget about Ancestral Visons coming off the banned list, as you can probably flip up to 2 of these when the suspend effect ends, making this an absolute BEAST.

This thing is sweet. I'm not sure it will be playable in standard while CoCo and Reflector mage are legal though. Thing in the ice is only good if you can reliably keep it on the field for a couple turns, at least. Reflector mage hates this care out hard.

As of right now, there is not enough instant support, as this is where it will shine. brain in a jar has potential with this in standard.

I'm pretty sure the dream with it in modern is just t1 tarn/vents bolt to the face, t2 red land Thing in the Ice, t3 red land probe for 2 life, bolt, bolt, bolt, flip, attack, gg (assuming they fetched, if not they'd still be at 1, lol).

That's quite the "dream". This fits in a R/U prowess shell, to be honest. It's bolt proof and has a big but for blocking. With Swiftspears and Abbotts, this is just sheer value. Running as many "free" spells as you can, with protection in terms of counters and Apostles Blessing makes this a potential house. How does this work with ferocious? As long as the spell removes the last counter, will it trigger ferocious after it flips, a la Stubborn Denial, Craters Claws.

I haven't been this excited about a card in a very long time. The card has so much potential in so many formats. In Modern, I would love to double Gitaxian Probe, and then Quicken into a Day's Undoing at the end of opponent's turn, and then swing in with a hand full of goodies for protection on my next turn.

Narset seems like a nice fit for this deck in Standard, as does Aberrant Researcher (doesn't get bounced like almost everything else when Thing in the Ice flips).

I've started brewing like crazy ever since I saw this card.

Natset will be rotating when this card comes out...

    Mortify, maybe

waaay too good for standard nowadays according to wotc, we all know that in reality. In other news, it's once again confirmed that, no matter how powerful a creature in magic is, a planeswalker can handle it without breaking a sweat. There's just no suspense in storytelling here, everyone is superman, overcoming any challenge thrown at them with ease. Poor avacyn, I hope there's still some hope left for the Angel of hope. Artwork is phenomenal imo, unreal even compared to the bfz trash.

How can one create something that they cannot destroy themselves? Probably something the eternal Sorin thought about before putting his plane in the hands of another, doesn't sound "superman" at all.

I think people are just seeing what they want to see with the incorrigible youths art. I do see one hand with possible extra fingers, and one kid with an extra eye, but tenticles thing just isn't there. People are really stretching to try to prove emrakul is there. By the way, inbreeding can cause those things too, except the tenticles, which aren't there anyway so....

This. Sounds like many have gone full Mad Prophet on us. It would be one thing if this was actual "art", but this is just digital, for lack of a better term, crap. I understand the reason to switch to digital, but it really removes all emotion from the cards. They look like images ripped from an old web based game, and it is upsetting.

I think this card can be big in Standard, but it feels subpar for Modern to me. It actually doesn't have that much synergy with the 3-mana zombies and Kalitas because you want to leave B open, effectively stopping you from tapping out on T3-T4. The deck really needs an impactful 2-mana turn 3 play to be relevant, because this card's body is not good by Modern standards.

Envision yourself casting one of these against Affinity. What cards do you want in your hand?

I see this in a modern deck that has free sac outlets, Vicera Seer, with Gravecrawler and Geralf's Messenger. That is a ton of pressure early game. It needs support no doubt, but I can see some MB shenanigans. I think that it being a BB cost helps it more than anything, with 2 devotion right out of the gate for Nyxthos, shrine to nyx. I'm not a Brewer by any stretch of the imagination, but there has to be something there.

This a good card that should be a rare,I don't see what's mythic about it,it's just a 2/2 zombie.Mythics are supposed to be legendary creatures, planeswalkers, world warping spells and ancient creatures that don't show up that often in the world.A common zombie? Really?

I don't think you understand how the rarity system works.

No that's exactly how the rarity system works,or that's what they claimed when they first introduced mythics. Then as time passed they bent it where any playable card can be mythic regardless of its lack of mythicness feel.

Even if that were the case, you could never print this card at rare. It replaces itself for a single B. It also reanimates any zombie, at a generic cost to boot. It can both block and beat. I would never buy another pack of cards if the mythics were as you say they should be, which is unplayable in constructed environments.
