There has to be some sort of “flip” mechanic to this. It’s clearly storybook related, so flipping, turning, etc. as part of the cost would make sense. But, unless we are getting a riff on morph, I find the face-up/down unlikely. Maybe like forecast?

Did you not just defend in the other thread? Yet, you make a comment with sexual undertones? Don’t really see the need for that type of commentary.

    Oh look, hate speech.

This thread going to turn into the other one? Because the card itself is pretty cool, and we’re only a page deep and here comes the BS.

Really, the cause of repetitiveness with tutors is the opponents, not the pilot. If you are routinely playing the same deck(s), of course the tutor targets are going to be close to the same ever time. The only time I ever see tutoring as a problem is if it’s only used to end the game. There are exceptions to this, but “fair” tutoring is grabbing a tool to help you survive, not to end the game. So, if you are experiencing a high number of games where players are tutoring to win, then that’s a player problem and not a tutor problem. No matter what action gets taken against tutors, you’re going to experience games with players that are just going to do whatever it takes to win.

No doubt tutors reduce variance, but sometimes there is minimal amount of available redundancy in an effect *cough*Doubling Season*cough*, and without the tutor, you’d never be able to play it in the format on a consistent basis. I’d rather tutors exist to ensure obscure strategies can exist.

Personally, I’d rather slam my head against the wall than attempt to persuade those 2 individuals to “see it your way”, but fight on, brother.

I have been playing Arena for a little over a month now. Constructed, Limited, special events, etc. and not once have I experienced this.

What are folks land counts? Are you using the auto feature to add lands? Sure, do I get games where I flood/screw? Absolutely. But it’s not something that I’d pin on a broken shuffler.

How can you make such a bold statement after saying-
I don't play Arena or any form of Standard

It’s nice not to see the same stuff in an event with just alt. art basics on the table. Easy way to grind EXP, and also allows the brewers a chance to test some jank. Beyond that, it’s new player friendly as a lot of those cards aren’t available without purchasing packs or spending wildcards.

I’d say it’s stupid to commentate on something you admittedly don’t know anything about, but that’s just me.

it was a disclaimer in case something Arena specific like Standard cards not readily available (which is stupid, that is the draw of Standard, that cards are cheaper and there aren't supply issues. I suppose that this may be better for a deeply flawed platform with a worse distribution system than booster packs already are. I just know that when i played Standard back around og Innistrad, if you had banned 19 cards just for one event, that event would not have drawn a single person. because we would say 'oh, the event organizer wants to bend us over? we will go elsewhere. I don't understand what happened from the years of 'Standard sucks, players stop playing it' to 'the format changes every few weeks with arbitrary and ridiculous basically Shaharazad subgames, but we won't bail'. I may not know Arena, but I know Paper Constructed, all formats have a few basic ideas 'I spend the money, i play the cards, you change without warning the playability of the cards, I think twice about spending the money'

How about you educate yourself before spouting off?

I’m not going to waste my time explaining what this is, but I will waste it by telling you that you look pretty ignorant by doubling down on your initial post by not attempting to gather any information what so ever on this particular topic before b****ing.

That mana curve though, holy ****. Probably should cut some fatties and throw in some utility. You say Naya lacks draw, but you don’t play Harmonize or Elvish Visionary which this deck definitely needs.

Yeah, that curve needs work though.

Throw in some looting if you have too, Faithless Looting as it puts your “shuffle” threats back in the deck where they belong and are easy discard targets. Play Eternal Witness to get some much needed redundancy. Gaea’s Blessing let’s you put fatties back and cantrips.

Is Sheldon really complaining about a turn 5 Sorin which doesn't even kill a player by turn 7 and did nothing the rest of the game, which went to turn 14 with the guy targeted by Sorin still alive, and equate that to an arms race to knock the player with Sorin out of the game by turn 4?
No. Sorin wasn't the point of that. What happened at first with Sorin was just a moment he could use to illustrate the concepts of:
    • Differing expectations between players who haven't had The Talk (rule 0) beforehand. Three of them had played with each other enough to be pretty much on the same page as far as what they considered 75%, whereas Gavin hadn't. 75% is as much about the plays you make as it is what cards you've build with - not to mention it's relative to your meta. That play could very well have been 75% in Gavin's meta. The point was how that play was perceived in-context.
    • How certain actions in a game (like getting your life set to 10 on turn 5) can precipitate an arms race. This one was more alluded to than spelled out.
Seems pretty straightforward to me and not "mental gymnastics". He even is on Gavin's side not long after for targeting Toby.

This is how I read it as well. Though, what this really illustrates is the fact that honest discussion needs to take place beforehand to ensure games meet everybody’s expectations. Clearly, 75% doesn’t travel well. Just talk about the decks you’re playing, I don’t really see how difficult it is.

I’m brewing it with walls + a few cards allowing walls to attack and a good amount of Planeswalkers. A Planeswallker deck so to say Smile At least theoretically, the themes have strategic overlap and it is something else. The new Sarkhan from war of the spark will be one of the wincons, turning every walker into dragons.

You need access to green to allow walls to attack. There is an equipment that does it but that is one wall at a time. And there are a few creatures that allow you to remove defender.

Rolling Stones and High Alert say hi?

And how could we forget Wakestone Gargoyle.

I think everyone should stop and remember what their first experience of EDH was when thinking of who these decks are for. I'm not sure how many started with 2011, but I started there. My first deck was Zedruu (exchange.dec) which won with Storm Herd. I didn't have to worry about getting beatdown by cEDH decks because there was no such thing. Fast forward a few years, and it's easy to see how newer players are denied the experience of playing a deck out of the box and slowly tuning it to their liking. I think the best remedy as someone mentioned earlier would be to communicate what type of playgroup / playstyle you're sitting with and adjust accordingly. Don't play cEDH decks against new players.

I'm very curious to see how everyone ranks the Commander products. I'm sure as a community we'd be all over the map. It seems like reprints are the thing that people consider the most when deciding whether a product is successful. That's interesting, since I've always felt like the commanders and new cards were the most important (and I know this is just my opinion). Perhaps that's why 2018 is viewed with such a negative lens? I felt that set was 4th best behind 2011, 2013 and 2016.

The issue is that the game has enough cards as is that people need for commander decks and reprinting cards that are basically replaceable bulk is not helping the commander community. Commander players love new cards, but they also want old cards that are not readily available. Every single blasted reprint in this set felt like it was from some massively opened set in the last two years, when the cards people need are things like Cyclonic Rift, Chromatic Lantern, allied pain lands, Mana Echoes, Sylvan Tutor, Cruel Tutor, etc.

Basically, they are saving anything with even the smell of a high secondary market price now for premium products. That is what is killing everything else.

Tutors, specifically the good ones, are never going to find their way into a precon, expecting otherwise is just setting yourself up for disappointment. And why would we get Mana Echoes? Any particular reason to include a tribal card in a set without tribal support? And I already said my piece on C.Rift.

I mean, this is a premium product. Getting reprinted here isn’t going drive prices down anymore than they would if they were printed in a masters set. Beyond that, people will just buy these and re-sell them way over the MSRP, robbing the target audience of getting their hands on the “needed reprints to compete”, which is just so damn funny that people actually think that.

    That’s not what I said.

You literally just said it was on the fence for being banned... implying such.

Feel free to back up and reiterate.

“On the fence” is “highly considering”? Hard to see how those to things are anywhere close to each other. Spin it how you want, I guess, but that is certainly not what I said, or implied. No need to reiterate at all.

I mean, just to clarify here. On the fence would be 50/50, no? “Highly considering” would imply there is a significantly greater than 50% chance, no? Yeah, makes sense.

    Thanks though.

I got a question regarding a card if it will ever get banned. Its about cyclonic rift. The card seems to me very powerfull being instant speed and only your opponents. There are a number of other options you have if it ever gets banned
There's some support for banning Rift among the RC/CAG, but there wasn't enough to ban it this time around.

Par for the course back then. Easy to have that take with 20/20 hindsight. But, they kept him mostly intact from his original printing. Hard to block- Fear to Menace. He was slightly above curve for P/T which made the mandatory sac. necessary(for the times), but now we have a mandatory sac(downside)its a May ability, so all upside I guess, with profit on an above curve body.

I honestly must say, he’s pretty much perfect. Far and away my favorite.
